DOUBLE DATE
“We should go on a double date.” Dae all the sudden suggested making Yuri close her book, they were supposed to be studying but Yuri instead started the books she bought. “What?” She tilted her head, confused where this was coming from. “Well, Eunice was really happy that you guys were dating and brought up how we all need to go on a double date.” A small laugh was let out from het, smiling back at her friend. The idea wasn’t a bad one, in fact it would have been nice. “Yeah, that’d be nice. I’ll bring the idea up to kitty and let you know what she says, although I'm sure she’ll say yes.” Dae quickly nodded, smiling brighter at the idea which made Yuri happy. She was glad he was supportive of them even if it was fake.
Yuri went back to her notebook to reread her notes, deciding on finishing the book when she got back to her room. It was silent again for a moment as Dae did the same, though his eyes wandered to the book Yuri had been reading. “When did you start reading Harry Potter?” She didn’t think he would bring it up. Yuri looked up from her notebook, her eyes darting to the book and then to Dae. “Yeah um, I started it for Kitty. The other day we watched the first two movies because they were her favorite and I had never seen them. I liked it enough and she said some things were different in the books so I wanted to see what was. It’s really not that big of a deal though,” She mumbled, shrugging it off as she looked back up to Dae.
The boy was quiet for a second but ended up nodding and leaving it alone. “I think it’s sweet how dedicated you are to her. I’ve never seen you like this, even when you were with Juliana. You never looked so happy or in love when talking about someone, until Kitty.” Dae’s last words are what caught Yuri off guard. She looked in love when talking about Kitty? That couldn’t be true, she didn’t love kitty and kitty didn’t love her. So, there was no way. Maybe there was a time, a what if moment, a different universe. But not here. She wanted Juliana, right?

Kitty had agreed to the double date, but ever since the four had arrived at the festival, Yuri had been off. Something was different about her, something was wrong. Kitty could tell, but she didn't know how to bring it up. Dae was currenetlly in the middle of playing ring toss, as was Yuri. The boy for some reason had brought a challenge on who could win their girlfriend the most prizaes. Eunice had four and sordid Kitty, this was the tie breaker. Kitty thought it was sweet and she really wasn’t complaining about the amount of stuffed animales she was getting but it seemed like it was getting more competitive, at least from the girl’s side. Yuri seemed a bit too dedicated to winning and Dae seemed to just feel happy that Eunice was happy. Luckily, for Yuri, Dae had a bad aim.
The sound of the ring hitting the bottle was heard again while one was heard hitting the floor. Kitty looked to Dae who let out a sigh before turning back to his girlfriend. She was quick to bring the boy into a hug, giving him a kiss on the cheek. Meanwhile, Yuri was picking out one last stuffed animal for Kitty. She walked up, stopping when she was by Yuri’s side.
She let her hand drop, grabbing hers. Yuri stiffened at first which made Kitty start to loosen her grip. “We’ll take the panda one,” Yuri cleared her throat, grabbing onto Kitty’s hand again. When the stuffed animal was handed to her, she thanked the man before dragging Kitty back. “This is for you.” She smiled, not letting go of Kitty’s hand. She didn’t want to let go this time. Kitty smiled back, taking the stuffed animal. “I’ll love it forever.”
‘You’ve never looked so in love.’ Dae’s words from before repeated in her head, she sighed, her smile faltening. Yuri’s eyes darted down to kitty’s lips, everything in the background fading away. She looked back to kitty’s eyes, then to her lips again. She brushed the girls hair behind her ear, she let out a breath. It was like she was going to do something, to say something. But then the constant reminder of how this was fake came up again and-
“We shouldn’t.” Kitty mubmled, pushing Yuri’s hand away, making the girl back up and nod. “Right um, sorry. Forget this happened” Yuri mentally slapped herself for that, what was she thinking? She was really letting what Dae said get to her? What the boy had told her didn’t matter when the whole thing was fake. She didnt love Kitty, she coyldn’t love her when in reality the girl wanted her brother. She watched as Kitty sent an awkward smile before running off to catch up with the couple she came with. Yuri with kitty as an actual couple? That wasn’t meant to be. It never would be, she coudn’t let the thought of them actually being together get to her. It was stupid.
