Haunted memories
Chapter one: Haunted memories
You were so excited to settle down with your new chair in your newish house. Well it wasn't exactly new, you had reclaimed it in the war against the human oppressors. Or as you like to call them, worm bait.
Bracing yourself as you chose to open the door.
Seeing the new paint on the door your brows furrowed. They used an ugly puke green to paint the door, which is just offensive considering the door was originally a beautiful stained walnut door. Not to mention the doorknob was a cheap modern nickel, instead of the antique brass lion door knob you were used to. But you push those bitter feelings and thoughts away, besides you have finally found a chair just like the one your family used to have in the living room.
The beautiful blue wingback armchair has white floral patterns and clawed feet. Searching for a match took you months of scouring trash heaps, vintage stores, antique shops and the like. This was the best match to your memory that was in good condition. All the other ones you had found had springs poking out, stains, broken feet, other issues, or just didn't look right.
The first part of rebuilding your life would be setting everything right, starting with your house.
Starting your little stressful adventure, things had definitely changed since you had last been there.
Stepping in and instantly frowning, you sighed.
I definitely have my work cut out for me, ugh.. you thought while looking at how literally everything had changed.
The mudroom which used to have a door leading to the living room was now more of an open entrance way.
The furniture instead of an older more classy style like your chair now screamed of glaring tastelessness in your opinion.
Looking around you see several new doors that were not there originally.
The first door you had opened was a bedroom. Taking a brief glance inside you see weird leather clothes in the closet, a swinging hammock style bed and a mirrored ceiling facing the face of the bed. The strange room freaked you out, slamming the door shut, you were very glad about not having guests any time soon.
Yep I'll use that one for storage… You decided quickly to move on to the next room.
The next room seemed to be normal so you felt brave enough to enter the room. The center wall had the same puke green as the front door, with the rest of the walls a nasty beige color. A comfy looking bed sat in the middle of the room. The furry looking blankets were tempting you to touch them, but the thought of the previous owners having halfing slaves overrode those thoughts making you decide to burn it all. Opening up the walk-in closet that was blocked from the view of the door you really shouldn't have been surprised to see an adult store's worth of what seemed to be brand new packaged phallic items at the top of the closet, but you still gagged.
Examining the clothes you thought at least there are some cute normal clothes I can wear, don't think I'll have guests anytime soon though… you decided to just leave the rooms alone for now.
Opening up another one of the newly added doors your jaw dropped as your eyes saw the super fancy bathroom before you. There was a separate shower area not to mention the huge tub that could easily fit five people comfortably. You were ecstatic to say the least to see the huge amount of fancy bath supplies left by whomever had lived here last.
Yay hot water! Thank you modern sewage and plumbing inventor, I love you!!! You planned on taking a nice long shower tonight.
Deciding you had enough of the extra rooms you opened the door to the basement. This was the only thing that seemed remotely similar so far on this adventure. It was still unfinished, had pipes sticking out, and you could see the wood beams of the house. The oddly comforting feeling made a smile grace your lips. Considering all the history in the basement you were surprised you were so comfortable in it.
All the structural and decorative changes had previously assured you that the memories of this house wouldn’t haunt you, but they were starting to flood back in full force.
You had originally lived in this house with your dad and mother. He was a skeleton monster general and she was a mage who turned against her own.
It was a love at first sight story. Your dad had called her his soulmate. She called him her General Snickerdoodle. At a rare peaceful time you were able to ask why, she said it was because he had the cutest little snort laughs when she tickled him.
Yes the house held many great memories, but it also held some of your worst memories…
It wasn't the abuse your mother put you through, or the memories of being persecuted everywhere you went even at home. After all, you had proved all those assumptions wrong by now.
No it was one of the ones you just couldn't help put behind you…
It was the day the humans who had marched right into your once peaceful city declaring monsters were unholy beings. That was the day your life and this house went truly to hell…
When they first came your dad and mother had panicked. You remember thinking “why are they so upset? It's just humans like mother.” You were too innocent at the time to understand where your father had gotten all his scars and why he drank so much. Why your mother never was willing to share her past, answer your questions about it, and hated the sight of you. Why your dad was so incredibly hard on you, learning all your skills and perfecting them. At that time you thought your parents were invincible, nothing could touch them. Just how wrong you were…
They had you use your storage skill to pack up as much as possible. Making you promise to keep quiet in the basement. You didn't know at that time promises, especially to skeleton monsters, are magic.
Your dad had fought with your mother at his side trying to defend the city while you stayed in the basement watching the horrors from the window, with Daisy, your brown plush bunny, as your only companion.
The vivid memory of your dad dusting still feels so tangible. Recalling as you watched the despicable humans take all the women and children away. The memory of not being able to do anything, not even cry, still makes your chest feel tight.
When those humans had found you they had taken you some place, branded you by dremeling a number on the part of your cheek that was bone. Everywhere you looked there were walls and bars, no path for escape in sight. There were other kids there, but not really anyone you knew…
At first they had made each of you show them your skills. After seeing one girl resist and be taken away only to return missing an arm you complied easily.
Even when they pitted you against each other..
It's them or me.. you thought at the time.
Slowly after all the years of torture, experiments, being forced to fight in an arena for their human delight, you woke up from the brainwashing and were resentful. You had no idea how long it had been, but it was at that moment you decided you needed to escape or die. The idea of leaving the others behind in this hell left a feeling of guilt in you so you had decided to live and make a plan of escape for all of you.
The extreme malnourishment made you able to squeeze through the bars. You weren't stupid enough to just think you could escape in your rotten clothes they had given you. Instead you started by taking things that wouldn't be missed. After appraising the items and using your replication ability you'd simply put it somewhere slightly different. For example like an unused locker, making it seem like the human was just a dunce.
It took over 2 years to put into action and several others had been taken and never returned by then.
You and the others, who were much younger than you, escaped.
A manhunt had been made for all of you. However they were looking for experiments in ratty gray clothes. Not ones who were completely dressed and covered from head to toe and for the most part you looked mostly human. Except for some missing fleshy bits here and there you easily passed as human as long as you were completely dressed. As long as all of you were quiet and casual you walked through the city with little to no problem. You had no problem covering all the ‘abnormalities’ you all had with all the preparations you had made. It was just so easy that you felt extra anxious at the time.
Only the guard at the gate of the city had stopped you. Only to ask if all of you were old enough to go out of town on your own.
From there you ran to the forest. Which was filled to the brim with deadly creatures, but food as well.
“Hey 00098, I'm going to go get some water!” 16783 had told you.
You had stopped him and were about to tell him your name was Y/n. However the only people who knew who Y/n were those humans and the traitors. Especially the traitorous monster who called themself Riverperson. They especially loved to call your name during the experiments. Plus they'd definitely be looking for you using your name.
So you decided to call yourself something else. You thought for a while and decided to call yourself Morrigan. After that stupid goddess those humans were so superstitious about.
They apparently thought she could bring death, war and fate, and honestly that was exactly what you wanted. You especially liked the names they called her. Phantom queen, Queen of nightmares, and mare- queen were all names you would love to live up to.
So when 16783 came back you decided to tell him your new name.
He ended up asking you a barrage of questions about it like whats a name, what's the difference to our numbers, don't only humans get those, and who gives you a name and so much more.
Even if you lied a bit by saying you had named yourself Morrigan and you were nameless like the rest. What they don't know won't kill them.
After the others who listened in and had even more questions now, not to mention a very long discussion it was decided you would name them…
You were stressed to say the least but you were the oldest and the only survivor in your group from that day.
All the others believed the lies that all of you were made by the humans and they had a right to do what they did.
While they had forcefully made the others they never had a right to do what they did.
You were determined to make everything go back the way it was, even if it killed you.
You thought and came up with a naming strategy. You would name them after what they look like.
First came 16783.
You thought about it a bit, thinking…
Since he is a small half cat monster and human, maybe you should name him one of those cat names humans called their cats? But would that mean he was your pet? Then after looking at his green stripes. Huh kinda the color of those olives we'd get on a rare occasion when they'd put pills in them. Maybe Olive no that sounds girly. What about Oliver? It was much better than those cat names. You decided to ask him.
“Hey 16783, what do you think about Oliver?” You hoped he liked it because otherwise it was flufflykins.
His ears perked up and his eyes seemed to sparkle a bit.
“I love it” 16783 who was now deemed Oliver said.
The others oohed and awwed both impressed with the name and seeming to get excited to be bestowed a name of their own.
Welp they seem to like my names so I guess I'll go with it. You thought
Then it was time for his sister 16784.
You looked her over, trying to note every detail.
She has blonde hair, cat ears, tail, red stripes.
Red stripes, well since I named him Oliver guess I'll name her after something similar. Maybe Cherri for cherries. You asked, keeping in mind Spicey as another alternative.
“YES!” She basically shouted in your face. She was always so enthusiastic.
Moving on to the next kid, 16800 the young flame halfling with red flames you thought Blaze would be a good name for him.
“Hey 16800 what do you think about Blaze?” asking for his opinions.
“Nice, I'll burn away all those pesky humans who come after us.” his fiery hair seemed to grow towards the sky when he said that.
00390 and 00391 were two young twin halfling skeleton monsters. You decided on Nyx and Orion for names. They seemed to love their names. You suspected them to be related to you somehow, but you refused to look into it.
Nyx would definitely be more helpful gathering information. She looked way more human than even you.
Orion seemed to take after the Skeletal parent and with him already being a bit taller and with bigger bones, you could tell he was the stronger of the two.
This continued on well into the night until each kid who had accompanied you had been given their own name. You remember being completely tuckered out after that but feeling happy for the first time in a very long while.
Years on the run made all of you stronger. You trained and raised all of them..
You found allies, remaining monsters, mages resisting cruel forced enlistment, and even merchants who were more than happy to benefit off your skills.
Then you struck…
It was kinda funny, it was like they never expected you, a mere ‘nameless’ slave, to be able to win and force their hand to sign a treaty or be wiped out.
Yet here you were trying desperately to remove all the tacky furniture so you could get started on redecorating all while reminiscing.
The sun was going down and you decided to sleep in the basement. It was still unfinished which despite the memories was kinda soothing compared to the rest of the house that made you feel like an outsider in your own home.
Setting up a pop-up cot, some blankets, of course your plush bunny, not that you'd ever let anyone find out you still had Daisy from all that time ago. You drifted off to sleep.
Apparently the sun decided to wake you up with it's warm radiance because you were hot and sweaty.
You looked out the window above you and you could see the light blue sky with the sun poking out. Opening up the window to breathe in the cold spring air.
Tossing aside the blankets, standing up and stretching, your bones crackled and popped in resistance. It was good to stretch them out now before moving around too much.
Sniffing around you smelled something, checking to see if it was you and yep it was you.
You were suddenly so glad they had added on that extra bathroom. Running up the stairs towards the bathroom door you jumped into the shower.
The hot water ran down your spine and you decided to sing…
Once upon a time
There was a girl and she played so nice
Her hair in perfect curls
She used to hide the tears in her eyes
One morning she woke up with poison on her tongue
The heat of the water and the really good smelling shampoo was getting to you.
Shes got a psycho inside her
But I think I kinda like her
Shes out for revenge done playing pretend
Never comin’ back, back from the dead
Don't act like you were her friend
Unfortunately you had finished rinsing off, which meant deciding to finish the song another day.
You had things to do today and were determined to get them done.
Grabbing a towel and some random clothes from the second room you quickly got ready, it was time to tackle that list.
First up on the list was of course restoring the city.
Which meant going to help draw out plans for some houses and a playground at a building you had dubbed the “city hall”. It was really just a bigger building that had an elevator to each of its floors which made it feel the fanciest either way it worked.
Nyx had also come to you a couple days ago and basically made you agree to coming to Blaze's new dance bar that he was opening up tonight. She made a big deal about getting us all tickets, when you knew Blaze would let you in no matter what… You knew she was really hoping that you'd find someone to take home tonight. She always made jokes and teased you about.
“Oh morri, when are you getting a boyfriend already? I need some nieces and nephews already!” She would playfully tell you.
She dragged you along several times to set you up with different guys, or tried to take you drinking and socializing a lot.
The worst one was when you were drinking with everyone and virginity had started to come up. Since the others had found out they weren't exactly test tube monsters they'd been pretty experimental. Only for someone to ask about your virginity just for her to butt in and say you were a virgin. The only funny part was Orion slapped her upside the head. Everyone laughed at that instead which seemed to settle things a bit.
You loved her beyond death itself, just wish she would stop a bit. Plus you just haven't met anyone who checked all the boxes.
Drawing up plans from memory was harder than you thought. It took much longer than you thought, but you think you managed. Hopefully building all the houses and playground would go well. When you walked out it was already getting dark.
You also still had to check the woods around the city. Not to mention get ready for the party.
“Shit” you picked up your phone and decided to ask for a favor.
“Hey Oliver can you go check out the woods for me?” you asked, biting your lip a bit hoping he'd do this solid for you on his day off.
“Yeahh, but you owe me one..” Oliver responded.
“Okay” you grimaced, he always held out on those till something really awful needed done.
You ran home to get dressed.
After much stressing and throwing around clothes that you had five fingers discounted through the years, you had decided.
You put on a black off shoulder crop top. Right under your bust it had these criss cross parts. It made you feel confident showing some of your bones off.
Compared to a human a lot of your skin was missing around your midsection but you liked looking different than a human these days.
You finally didn't have to blend in..
You picked up a red pleated skirt. You liked the texture of this one; it was smooth and shiny. Plus it showed some of your femur bones. You twirled around and it spun with you.
Just the final touches were left.
Slipping on some customized thigh socks to protect your ankle bones from your onyx high heels. The elastic really doesnt work for you since you are well boney. After finding some leggings you had cut off the top to make socks, hemmed them then ran red ribbon through them so you could tie them through your bones.
Of course you couldn't forget your earrings. You had modified your mom and dad's military medals into your favorite pair of earrings.
Some makeup and put your hair up, you were running out the door.
You arrived at the bar waving to Nyx and Orion.
An annoying familiar ringing interrupted you running over to them. It was Oliver, considering he went to the woods for you this can't be good.
“Hey, Oliver what's wrong?” You hesitantly asked.
“Um Morri, did you know there were monsters under the mountain?” He asked. You could hear the nervousness in his voice.
“What? Where are you?” You coughed out, suspicious noises were sending chills down your spine.
“Oliver?? Hello?” Relief washed over you as you heard him speak again.
“Um apparently the earthquakes we've been feeling were them escaping, and um when we talked some of them said they might know you.” He said but was really asking.
Why the fuck did you tell them about me Oliver!! You screeched in your head.
“Anyways im heading back it isn't safe” Oliver said right before
CRASH
BOOM
“That's not possible!” You heaved out your eyelights bulging. You heard someone yelling give me the phone and some noises.
Please, please, no no no… you chanted in your head. You could not have everything ruined right now.
“hey ya Y/n, how ya been?” a deep hoarse voice called to you.
“I d-dont know who you're talking about! I'm Morrigana.” You tried desperately to say confidently. Mentally slapping yourself for stuttering, showing any form of weakness infront of those two was a big mistake.
“heh sure you are pea, sure. anyways mind if all of us come join you? it be a realllll shame if your friends couldn't meet other monsters.” Papyrus, the owner of the stupid voice you knew, breathed out.
“Where's Oliver?” you gritted out.
“you wound me pea! How could you ever think I would ever hurt someone you love?” You knew just from experience how much he was lying through his teeth.
He was goading you into doing exactly as he says. He was manipulative as ever.
Apparently the only thing that changed from when he was younger is how his voice got so stupidly ho..
You stopped yourself from thinking such things. This stupid skeleton would always act so sweet to you but was really a big manipulative prick. His brother was worse though. You silently hoped they weren't together.
They used to tease you and pick on you all the time. Papyrus would encourage Sans actions behind the scenes. Theyd always scare off all the other kids and you never really made any friends, except their friends. Which really was just them just pulling you along to hang out with them very unwillingly.
Suddenly having the thought Maybe I'll get lucky and I'll just have to deal with Papyrus and sans wont-
“we can't wait to see you pea.. it's fine you didn't tell anyone about us really.. i mean we were such close friends but im sure you just forgot right?” What Papyrus was spewing basically meant you were screwed.
Welp fuck my life… You thought as you groaned.
“Hand the phone back to Oliver!” You basically hissed out.
“what if i dont want to? what if i want to keep talking?” You could totally hear him smirking through the phone.
“We can talk in person Asshole!” You were so close to smashing your phone. Wait did I just fuck myself over???
“Great! Tell us where you are we'll come to you right now” Papyrus really thought he could get away with this. The only way you could get away with this is if you play by your own terms.
“Hey asshole if you really wanna talk we can talk over drinks at Blaze's bar!” You were totally gonna ask Blaze to slip something in their drinks if things got tough.
“DONT CALL MY BROTHER NAMES, IT WONT WORK OUT WELL FOR YOU. WE SEE YOU SOON.” that had to be Sans.
“Nice to hear from you too sans” You snapped back.
“MUTUAL FEELINGS, SEE YOU SOON.” Sans clapped back at you.
Hopefully you could make it out of this alive…. ☠️🏴☠️💀😁
