Ginny Weasley
Ginny's POV
"GINNY!" my mother shouted.
"COMING, MUM!" I yelled back as I hurried downstairs.
It had been a few months since the new school year started, and now I was entirely alone with my parents. No more chasing after the twins, no more hearing Ron complain that he's hungry every five minutes, and no more Percy lecturing the twins every time they did something wrong.
It was... refreshing, to be honest.
Mom had me learning everything, from cooking to cleaning. I’ll admit, I’m not the best cook. I don’t have Mum's skills, and I've already burned more meals than I care to count (which Mum wasn’t thrilled about).
"What is it, Mum?" I asked as I walked into the kitchen.
"Can you please collect the eggs, dear?"
"Sure, Mum!" I said, heading outside.
In a few days, Christmas would be here, and my brothers would be home for the holidays. I was looking forward to seeing them again and hearing all about their adventures at Hogwarts.
They wrote to me every week. The first letter I received this year was from Ron. He told me he had been sorted into Gryffindor and made friends with a boy named Neville. He also mentioned a very annoying girl in his year.
So, I wrote back saying that I’d like to meet my future sister-in-law.
He was not happy about that. He said he would never fancy such a smart-arse. But Fred and George wrote me saying they already acted like an old married couple.
Fred and George also mentioned Harry Potter came to Hogwarts this year. And—get this—he was sorted into Slytherin! Of all houses! They acted like it was some kind of crime, but I don’t think it’s a big deal.
I’ve been thinking about it a lot. Nearly my entire family has been sorted into Gryffindor, with a few exceptions in Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, but no one has ever been sorted into Slytherin.
What if I want to be in Slytherin? Will my family still accept me? It’s been eating at me, but Slytherin can’t be bad if the Boy Who Killed the Dark Lord is in it.
I guess I’ll think about it some more. I have plenty of time before I get to Hogwarts. I don’t even know if I’ll be able to choose.
Picking up the eggs, I walked back inside.
"Here you go, Mum."
"Thanks, dear."
Then, an idea struck me, and I rushed back to my room to write a letter.

Harry's POV
The Christmas holidays were only a few weeks away. Obviously, I wasn’t going back to the Dursleys if I could avoid it, so I was staying at Hogwarts for the break. Luckily, Blaise was staying too.
"Hey, mate, want to play chess?" Blaise asked.
"Yeah, sure!" I said, already setting up the pieces.
We were halfway through our game when an old brown owl swooped in and dropped a letter on my lap, then collapsed right onto the chessboard.
"No! Now we have to start again!" Blaise groaned, but his attention quickly shifted to the letter. "Who’s that from?"
"I have no idea," I said, pulling the letter from its envelope. "I wasn’t expecting anything."
I opened the letter and started reading.
Dear Harry Potter,
We’ve never met, but I figured I’d ask you instead of one of my brothers. Maybe I should introduce myself first; I’m Ginny Weasley, and I live in Devon (Yes, Ron, the twins, and Percy are my brothers). Next year, I’ll be starting at Hogwarts. Of course, I "know" you from the stories, but I’m sure you don’t want me to remind you of them. That’s not the reason for my letter, though.
As I said, next year I’ll be at Hogwarts. My brothers told me about the four houses and the sorting ceremony. I don’t know exactly what the ceremony is, but I’ve heard that you can choose which house you want to be in, and they’ll consider your choice.
I know it’s a while before I get there, but I’ve been thinking about it non-stop. I just want to know what it’s like to be in Slytherin. Are the people nice? Do you have any advice?
I’ve heard that you don’t get along with my brothers, but I don’t think it’s right to judge you just because of that.
I hope you’ll read my letter and reply.
Yours truly,
Ginny Weasley
That was definitely unexpected. A letter from the sister of one of the Weasley boys? She sounded pretty nice, though.
"Who was it?" Blaise asked again, clearly curious.
"Weasley’s sister."
"What? Why would she write you?"
"Apparently, she wants advice about which house she should join."
"And she wrote you because... Why didn't she ask one of her six brothers?" Blaise raised an eyebrow.
"She wanted to know what it’s like to be in Slytherin. By the way, how do you know she has six brothers?" I asked, genuinely curious. Blaise didn’t seem like the type to care about the Weasley family.
"My father made me learn about all the ‘blood traitor’ families, so I could avoid them. It’s rubbish, if you ask me. I don’t even like the Weasleys much," he said, making a face.
"I’m glad you don’t buy into that nonsense."
"Yeah, well, why don’t you go write back to that Weasley girl?" Blaise smirked.
"Good idea," I said, standing up and heading to my dorm to write her a reply.
