First year-Finals

Lily Evans

Lily Evans has always been a bright student, never failed a class in her life. She's always been a quick adapter to school, and the subjects around it, It has always been a breeze to her. But ever since she’s gotten to Hogwarts, she has had to try harder and spends relentless hours studying.

It’s been tough, being a muggle-born in the wizarding world, everyone was already a step ahead of her. Lily has constantly got her nose in a book or a pencil in her hand. Mary has to drag her to bed to get her away from studying.

But now finals are coming around the corner, no one has had school for the past two weeks and lily feels as though she's going to hyperventilate.

“Lily Enough, you need to eat,” Mary says tapping Lilys' shoulder.

“I can’t, I need to study” Lily whines, not glancing up from her book.

“You're always studying,” Marlene says grabbing the book from under lily face.

“Hey!” Lile reaches for it back.

“Nope, you've got to eat your breakfast then you can study as much as you want” Marlene lifts the book, out of Lily's reach.

“Here,” Mary slides a plate of bacon eggs and toast to lily.

“Thank you “ lily mumbles through her bite of toast.

“Pst ! Pst lily!” Lily heard someone call her name from behind her.

“Hm?” Lily hums turning around, to see Severus Snape leaning forward to her.

“Hey, Lily,” Severus says.

Lily gulps down her toast “Hi” he responds.

“Are you studying for your finals?” Severus asks raising his eyebrows to her.

“Yep, Mary and Marlene just made me take a break for breakfast” Lily giggles.

Wich causes snape to roll his eyes. Lily furrows her eyebrows.

“You should spend all of your time studying, you have less of an advantage” snape hisses.

“What do mean ‘less of an advantage’ “ Lily quotes, hurt by the comment.

“Well, your y’know” Severus shrugs “muggle-born” He tones down his voice, making sure Lily is the only one that can hear him.

“Seriously?” Lily asks in disbelief about what she's hearing. She can't believe how conservative Severus still is, she thinks he'd at least be a little more accepting of her muggleness, it's not a bad thing.

“I'm just saying, everyone's already got the hang of magic, since they’ve been learning it their whole life,” Snape says.

“Do I not have the hang of magic, I'm passing in all my classes” Lily frowns.

“Yeah because you spend your time studying,” Severs says all knowingly.

“Whatever Severus,” Lily says, stung by the conversation, she turns her body back around, to her breakfast, taking a few more bites.

Lily was now in the library and stacks of books are surrounding her, she's been studying her ass off ever since breakfast, she’ll show Severus, showing him that she can pass these finals swiftly.

“Hiya Evans” Lily looks up and sees smug Sirius black looking over all her books.

“What is it, black?” Lily groans looking back down to her books.

“Merlin, I can't even see you through all those books” Sirius laughs.

“Do you want something, or did you come over here to distract me?” Lily furrows her eyebrows looking up at Sirius.

“Oh! Ha, right” Sirius widens his eyes. “See my friend over there, Remus,” Sirius says pointing behind him to a frantic Remus Lupin whos pacing around the room.

“Yeah?” Lily puzzles.

“Well he's looking for a charms book, going ballistic actually over it, and he can't find it, so I thought since you look like your the master of all books over here, you'd have it” Sirius shrugs grinning.

“Right, yeah I've got it right, uh” Lily looks around her books, grabbing one from the pile “ here”

“Thank you, you are a lifesaver, Remus was bout to tear my head off if he couldn't find it” Sirius laughs.

“No problem, “lily smiles lightly, as Sirius leaves, she immediately turns down to her books.

***

All of the first year are now doing their first finals, which is charms, Lily isn't too worried she does great at charms.

Just don't worry and you'll be alright, you've got this lily.

Lily is now sitting down next to Remus Lupin because the teacher has assigned seats for the finals.

“Nervous?” Lily whispers to Remus.

“Yep,” Remus whispers back “You?”

Lily makes a straight smile and nods her head.

“I think you'll do great” Remus smiles.

“You think?” Lily questions, face lighting up.

“I know, you've had your head in a book constantly for the past month” Remus laughs lightly.

“Well I could say the same for you”

“I've got to, y’know? I didn't grow with magic like everyone else, I've got less of an advantage” Remus shrugs.

“Yeah, I understand” Like nods, the conversation with Severus still repeating in her head.

“Alright Everyone, take out your wands, and you will see in front of you, there’s a coconut,” Professor says, walking down the space between the desks.

“Now this might be a little odd to some of you, but I want you all to make your coconut dance an Irish jig”
This comment sends giggles throughout the whole class.

After a few minutes Remus had gotten it and a couple of other people in the class, eventually Lily Evan had gotten hers to do the same, laughing at the magic.
Next was Transfiguration, which wasn't Lilys' strongest subject, she didn't excel as hard in this class as her others but she still had high hopes shed pass. Lily has taken a liking to her professor, Mgonagall has this mothering nature about her that Lily Evans has taken comfort in.

This makes her feel odd, that she feels this way but also brings a warm comfort to her. Lilys’ mother has always been a distant woman, always focusing on her sister, never leaving space for lily to be the center of attention. but not recently, for the past year and a half, it's been as though she’s a ghost.

Lily tries not to think about home, it hurts too much, to know that her sister hates her, and her mother couldn't care less about her. And her father, well her father is a drunk never thinking before he says things, or before he does things

But Lily tries to push those negative feelings away, she's always been an optimist trying to find happiness in everything, and it helps. Lily is known as forgiving, and a kindred spirit. She finds herself in books and paintings, always losing herself in the imagination of fantasy, romanticizing every detail of her life. Anything can be possible when it's fiction, you can turn dreams into reality, and do things a normal human can’t.

But now Lily's life seems to be turning into fiction, like a fantasy I mean she's a witch now, like the ones you read in books, but in person. She can lift feathers, turn things different colors, and she can even fly a broom for heaven's sake.

And that brings comfort to Lily, that some things seem to be going well in Lilys’ life, that she can be here in Hogwarts, and not focus on family life, or reality for a minute, she can just do magic. And that is magical to her.

Herbology and History of Magic exams came and went, both extremely easy subjects for Lily Evans. But now Lily is taking her Potions exam, Slughorn seems to be a sweet teacher, a little forgetful sometimes, but Lily has grown patience with him.

“Hello, class, now don't stress I'm sure everyone will excel in this exam, there will be no notes, you will be preparing the potion cure for boils, I expect everyone has studied for this. Now begin” Slughorn finishes sitting down at his desk.

Lily knew this poition by heart, she had been studying the potion and making sure she knows the potion down to the last ingredient. Which consists of dried Nettles, snake fangs, stewed horned slugs, porcupine quills, and Flobberworm Mucus.

Lily quickly finished the potion before the rest of the class.

Exams came to an end, and all the children of Hogwarts had seemed to get their heads screwed back on. No more stressed-out kids, staying up every night studying and frantically reading. Lily finally felt the pressure of exams come off her shoulders

But there was one thing that Lily wasn't too happy about, it was that the school year has also come to an end, which means Lily has to go home, and she's been dreading the moments since she first got here.

“Lils!” Mary says joyfully rushing to Lily, whos sitting on the common room couch reading.

“Hm?

“Would you stop reading, finals are over now” Mary groans, plopping down next to lily.

“I'm not studying, I'm reading for fun” Lily comments not looking up from her book.

“Don't you want to spend your last days here having actual fun” Mary whines, scootching closer to lily.

“What do you have in mind?” Lily questions turning a page.

“Well I don't know, we could paint each other nails”

“Boring “ Lily says blankly, teasing Mary, but waiting to see how long she’ll list things.

“Awe come on, just spend some time with me, you can choose what we do,” Mary whines tilting her head.

Lily grins “Well alright” Like gives in.

“You me and Marlene can stay up late, have like a slumber party” Lily giggles.

“Now that's the spirit Lils!” Mary cheers.

Later that night In the girls' dormitory. Lily Mary and Marlene are all sitting on the floor, duvets, and pillows on the ground.

“You don't have a crush on anyone, right lils?” Marlene asks raising her eyebrows, smirking.

“No definitely not,” Lily says bluntly, making an X with her arms.

Marlene clicks her tongue at the roof of her mouth and nods, turning her head to Mary “Do you, Mary?” .

“I don't think so” Mary speaks, mary fidgets with her fingers on her lap.

“What do you mean you don't think so?” Lily asks eyes widened.

“I mean, I don't know, how do you know if you like someone?” Mary shrugs.

“Good question,” Marlene says putting a finger to her chin.

“I guess you just know” Lily adds.

“I guess so, but enough about crushes, I need your truth and honest opinion” Mary shuts down the conversation.

“Well? Shoot it” Marlene wiggles her brows.

“Should I cut bangs?” Mary asks

“Hm,” Marlene hums.

“Not like thick bangs, I'm just saying like cut a few curls, my hair has so much poof it needs some pizazz” Mary brings to hands to her hair, causing her curly hair to fluff up.

“I say do it” Marlene nods.

“You think I should?” Mary tilts her head to her left.

“Yeah, you only live once Mary” Marlene grins.

Lily nods in agreement “plus you'd look amazing”

Marlene points to Lily, “Exactly”.

Mary smiles widely, clapping her hands together.

“Do you think we’ll be able to hang out this summer?” Marlene asks.

“I'm sure of it, Mary and I always do” Lily nods, smile widening

Mary and Lily have been friends since childhood, always going over to one other's house, they even went to primary school together, that's why they're so close. Even Severus has grown jealous of them, and how much they’re together.

“Great!” Marlene cheers.

“Ugh “ Mary flops back, laying on her bed “I'm so glad exams are over, I almost died from stress” mary groans.

“Second that” Lily raises her hand.

“You were stressing me out with exams,” Marlene says, giggling

“Yeah Marlene and I had to drag you to bed,” Mary says

“and make you eat, breath, and blink” Marlene adds

“Which I'm grateful for, thankyou” Lily smiles.

“Your welcome you nutter” Mary laughs throwing a pillow at lily.

Lily throws a pillow back at her. They all giggle, spend the rest of the night talking, and eventually fall asleep, with smiles on all three of their faces. Enjoying their last days at Hogwarts for the year.
