Sirius Black, Sirius Orion Black, the boy who came from one of the most strict and closed-minded families in town, the guy whose parents scared every kid in the neighbourhood, was wearing a crop top and neon blue eyeliner.
Now. Remus was a very smart boy. He knew better than to fall in love with his best friend. He knew it so well that he wasn’t in love with Lily, nor with James or Peter, unfortunately, he didn't know well enough when it came to Sirius, but come on, have you seen the guy?
Sirius was everything a boy needed to be to have people falling in love with him left and right. He was handsome, really handsome, his face was like a piece of art made of different parts that fit amazingly together, from the perfectly proportioned forehead to the end of the marked jawline. His hair fell shoulder-length around his face, the contrast between the pale skin and the dark hair was like the cherry on top of the cake.
But that was just his appearance, he was also terribly charming, and funny, and flirty and loud, which wasn’t always great, but still made him who he was. And he was lovely, so lovely that Remus did, in fact, love him.
Love.
Maybe love was a strong word for what he felt.
Remus has never felt butterflies in his stomach looking at Sirius, if something, he finally felt the familiar anxiety be a little less annoying, he felt the world going a little slower, making time for him to catch up, to take a deep breath, to finally relax.
He felt like everything Sirius did was so effortless that even he could try and take it easy. Take it easy, it was something Sirius always told him he should do “You have to relax, Moony, or you’ll look like you're forty by the time you’re twenty-five.” he had no idea Moony, when he saw him, was already the most relaxed he could be, and that it was mostly because of him.
Remus felt like everything stopped making sense when Sirius started to talk or laugh, it wasn’t possible in his mind that someone could simply go on with his day when Sirius Black was laughing in the same room as them, he felt like everything revolved around him, probably because he revolved about him, but still.
He wanted to spend his day with him, he wanted to watch movies together, to cook together, to cuddle, even, they were all things they've already done together, yet Remus hadn’t had enough, he wanted to keep doing them and more.
Maybe love was a strong word for what Remus felt, but it was close enough.
That’s beside the point, though. The point is that Sirius was currently wearing a crop top, a very revealing one, and eyeliner and as with everything he ever did, he looked incredible while doing it. There wasn’t any particular reason that could’ve explained that look, they were just hanging out at James’, as they often did since James had the biggest house and the nicest parents and he had gone to the bathroom for just five minutes, then got out of the said bathroom looking as he did. The crop top showed Sirius’ belly button, which appeared to be pierced, and it was black and semi-transparent.
Remus’ mouth, despite his attempts not to do so, had gone dry as he tried to fully process what he was seeing. Luckily he wasn’t the only one that had a reaction: James and Peter were so shocked their eyes widened and their jaws dropped; It was hilarious.
Sirius seemed satisfied and proud as he watched his friend’s faces, he laughed walking toward them, trying to imitate one of those cool top models he has seen many times on TV. He stopped in front of the couch where they were all sitting, right in front of Remus. “So, what do you think of my newest outfit?” he posed.
James was the first to talk, smiling more and more as the seconds passed “That’s incredible! How do you look this good? I mean-” Sirius let out a small laugh again.
“The secret is sleep and confidence, Prongsy, that’s all you need,” he said with a smirk and a confident tone.
They all laughed and the conversation stopped being linear when Peter tried to add something about the eyeliner being so bright. Sirius sat down between Peter e Remus and they all kept talking. It was nice, just the four of them as they’ve always been, being able to laugh and chat and tease each other without having to give much thought to it, because it was them, nothing bad could happen as long as they were still them.
Almost an hour passed when James suddenly got up, remembering he had to cook something they could eat as dinner, he started heading to his own kitchen and after not so many seconds Peter followed him “If we leave him to cook alone we might as well start calling the firefighters” he wasn’t completely wrong, James did burn a precooked meal, plus Peter was a great cook, so Remus and Sirius didn’t complain.
As soon as they were alone Sirius turned his face to the boy next to him “You didn’t say anything about my look yet” so Sirius noted.
Remus tried really hard, really hard to think about something to say, a ‘you look nice’ would’ve been just fine, instead he just looked at him, lips parted as if he wanted to say something but had nothing to say.
“What, the cat’s got your tongue?” He was smirking as usual. “Nah, I just was trying to find a way to not hurt your feelings,” Remus said in response, for a second he was scared it was too mean, but then Sirius’ smirk grew wider and Remus’ fear dissolved.
“Is that right? I was sure I saw your reaction before, and you were the good kind of speechless”
“The good kind of speechless?” he raised an eyebrow,
“Yes, the good kind, the kind of speechless you are when you see something, or someone, so beautiful you just can’t find the words” he explained as if it was the most obvious thing on the planet, still using the tone he reserved for Remus only.
“So you’re suggesting I didn’t say anything because you were too beautiful to let me form sentences?” Sirius was saying exactly that and he was right, but it didn’t mean Remus could let him know that.
“Yes, my dear Moony, that’s what I’m saying because that’s what happened” Remus’ heart beat a little faster when he heard Sirius referring to him as his, he could only hope he was good at hiding it “You were so charmed by my appearance that your ability to speak left your body for a moment, which is a shame since I love listening to you talking” Sirius went on, without breaking eye contact capturing Remus with his eyes and Remus was almost left speechless again.
“Don’t you think that is a narcissistic way of interpreting what happened?”
Sirius leaned forward, their faces separated only by a couple of inches, Remus couldn’t help but look at his lips, so close to his own it felt dangerous, he felt the urge to move away but he refused, waiting for the other boy to say something.
“What happened, Remus?” his tone dropped as he got lost in the brown eyes he was looking into, without even realizing it he got closer, just a little, and didn’t dare to move another muscle.
It was Remus' turn, he had to say something, that’s how you keep a conversation going, unfortunately, Remus’ brain wasn’t working, at all. All he could focus on was how close he was to Sirius, and how fast his heart was pounding in his chest.
And then, after seconds of deafening silence, it wasn’t clear who was the first of the two who closed the distance, all they knew was that they were kissing and that it felt like that was all they were supposed to do, because it felt just too right to be a coincidence.
