A hospital disturbance
Detective Sergeant Ronnie Brooks stretched himself as he stepped out of the blue Ford Focus that his partner and high flyer Detective Sergeant Don Williams was driving, where Ronnie was what is known as a copper’s copper, he is the calming influence in many situations. Ronnie has dealt with most of life’s tragedies and seen people at their best and worst.
Ronnie turned to Alcohol in his earlier career to cope and drank through his two marriages. Ronnie is trying to patch up his relationship with his two daughters, although this remains an ongoing project. Ronnie has always admitted that the phrase ‘But for the grace of God’ is his, he understands that as a recovering Alcoholic he has been lucky that his life choices did not lead him down paths which he could not get out of.
Ronnie partner Don Williams is as mentioned an ambitious high flyer with the Metropolitan police force, he is black with a first class honours degree and progressing quickly through the ranks of the Met. He will admit and makes no apologies if asked that his eventual goal is to be the first black Met Chief constable. Don is married to a white women with two daughters, at the moment Don is trying to support his wife and her family through his mother’s illness of advanced dementia. This can lead Don to be short with people when he tired and irritable, it is Ronnie’s calm demeaner that helps get the pair the results they do.
For two very different men and police officers, the pair work well together. Each other strengths compliment the others weakness. Although the fact that Don goes to the gym at least twice a week and runs every day to destress, confuses Ronnie. Ronnie way of destressing is seeing his grandchild, watching West Ham and playing snooker when off duty.
“I hate coming into hospitals, nothing good comes of us coppers been called into a situation” moaned Ronnie
“Yes! Well apparently there has been a disturbance on one of the wards, and the perpetrator just happens to be a high ranking Wixen or what ever they call themselves now a days” answered Don as the two men walked through the crowded carpark to the main entrance of the hospital.
“One thing we can be thankful for! We don’t have to pay this hospital exorbitant carparking rates”
“Don’t remind me! Had to almost take out a second mortgage when visiting Sandra’s mother in hospital before she was admitted to the care home”
“How is your mother in law now?”
“Lets just say! That she has physically assaulted the local vicar, giving him a black eye. Swears like a trooper and her language is now as bad as the worst fish wife…….which is amazing when you realise she was a captain in the Sally Army (this is a old nick name for the Salvation Army)! Nearly every time we visit, there are reports of her biting, scratching and kicking the staff”
“So she’s slightly better now then” Ronnie cheerfully answers “Anyway sorry you had to come out to this on your day’s holiday”
“No problems! Did me a favour, the only plans was to visit the old girl and this believe me is preferable to that” Both men laughed and walked up to the reception desk to ask where they needed to go.

At least five minutes later, although it might have been a lot longer the two men arrived at the office of hospital facilities manager. Both men’s hearts dropped when they saw four hospital security guards, two police constables and a hospital matron waiting for them. After introductions, the Matron reported the incident to Ronnie and Don.
“So after he intimidated the young male patient on the ward, he then threatened your nursing and medical staff correct?” asked Don, The Matron confirmed that this was true before adding “It has took six very experienced security staff to contain him and remove him from the ward to here! It then took a further four police constables and as well as the original security guards to keep the man contained. I am afraid that our security staff had to manhandle him off the ward down to here, he may have a few bruises and at least a black eye because of his being uncooperative ” the matron said apologetically.
Ronnie waved away the Matron’s apologies with “He must have earnt it, although aren’t your security staff ex-military personal?” The Matron nodded, “and the Senior Staff Nurse with the other wards nursing staff managed to keep him contained in the ward managers office before we could arrive” Don and Ronnie looked at each other and mentally winced, it was a little known fact that Nurses and most Hospital Security could and would control most situations and sometimes with force if needed. It would not have been a pleasant experience for the suspect now held in the office before them.
“So this person arrived on the ward and demanded that the young patient retract his statement that the had made to the police previously or……..” Don started and the Matron finished “He would ensure the patient would end up in wizarding prison and be expelled as he should have been at the beginning of his fourth year. All the staff present have or are making their statements about the incident and the trust will be seeking the fullest penalty etc available”
“Of course sir! We can’t have people intimidating witnesses to change their or retract their statements, especially when the young man I believe nearly died from his injuries! It was only the quick thinking of the young mans neighbours and his magic that ensure he lived” The Matron looked at the detectives them smiled as he responded “Ah! You are the detectives that responded to the original incident between the five combatants and the young man” both detectives nodded in agreement. With that the small group of three opened the door and walked in to small room.

The two detectives walked into the room and saw sitting at the desk with four security personal and two police constables ensuring the man did not try to leave. But to be truthful thought Don just seeing the burly black security guard who kept every couple of minutes cracking his knuckles menacingly would make most people co-operative with the security team. The reason for the police constables were self-evident as the wizard was already wearing magic suppressing police cuffs.
One of the constables explained that the wizard in question had been read his rights and arrested before being detained by them
The wizard looked up and with a creepy old man’s smile stated “ Ah gentlemen! I was explaining to the constables and other people in this room, that I will forget this unfortunate incident that has happened. If I of course get the appropriate apology and access to the young wizard I was visiting”
One of the security guards rolled his eyes and whispered low enough for just the detectives and Matron to hear “And you can run the gantlet of the Dragon if he is allowed any where near the ward or young patient when she is there!”
Both detectives smirked and gave each other knowing looks, as Ronnie was now fond of saying “At least with normal or mundane criminal and suspects they knew when to behave (or try to), but Wizen or wizarding folk just thought they were above everybody else on the evolution scale and thought normal social rules and social norms did not apply to them.
Ronnie tilted his head to signify that he had the honour of putting this wizarding arsehole in his place. The British and International Chief Warlock and Headmaster of Hogwarts Albus Dumbledore looked opened mouthed and shocked when Don reiterated that Albus was now and would continue to be arrested for trying to intimidate a principal witness in a crime.
