The boys tumble off the broom as the doors to the room of requirements close behind them. Harry stands up and faces his friends “I gotta go guys”. They all part ways and Draco follows after Potter and pulls him into a random classroom. He needed to know before one fo them died. Draco couldn’t keep it in any longer and almost dying back there pushed him to tell the other boy everything.
Harry turns to face the boy “what are you gonna do, kill me now after i just saved your bloody arse” he screams at draco.
Draco knew this wasn’t gonna be easy. Why would Potter trust him enough to believe the words he wants to say? “I didn’t drag you here to kill you potter, i don’t want you to die you bloody idiot”
Harry was shocked. What did Draco mean when he said that he didn’t want Harry to die. “What do you mean mal-“ Harry paused, looking at Draco's forehead. “Draco, Merlin, your bleeding” at that point Harry realized he just called malfoy by his first name. He didn’t know why or what to say now.
draco raised a hand to the cut on his forehead, blood coated his fingers but he didn’t seem to care much. “well you bleed just to know your alive” he mumbles
Harry looks at him, a mix of confusion, anger and worry on his face. “what is that supposed to mean, why am i here malfoy”
Draco sighed. It was now or never. “I don’t want you to die and i don’t want either one of us to die without you knowing everything”
Harry didn’t speak but nodded his head, telling Draco to continue.
Draco took a deep breath then spoke “I don't want you to die potter. I want your side to win. I need your side to win. I've spent the last year doing everything I could to give you time to do whatever it is you have been doing this past year. I knew that I couldn't leave. He would have killed my family but I wanted to help. That's why I didn't identify you that day at the manor and why I gave you the wands back without a fight. I followed Crabbe and Blaise in there because I saw them head in after you and tried to stop them from doing something that would get you killed without blowing my cover. I’m sorry for all the things I have done to you and your friends. I truly thought that what my father told me growing up was true, but then that night of the final task i started to realize that maybe he was wrong and snape helped me to come to the place I am now. he killed dumbledore for me because he wanted to give me a chance to fight for the right side. i just needed to tell you this in case one of us don’t survive this battle” draco chose to leave out the ‘and i fell in love with you over time’ part because it didn’t seem like the time or place to get brutally rejected.
Harry was silent for a second before he spoke. “Why are you telling me this and not everyone else”
Draco knew why. “Cause i don’t want the world to see me, cause I don’t think that they’d understand. But when everything’s made to be broken, I just want you to know who i really am”.
“Why do you care so much about what I think of you” Harry asked, still confused.
Draco looked down at his shoes “just because”.
“Malfoy tell me”.
“No” Sraco whispers. “You don’t want to know why”
Harry walks over to the boy, lifting Draco's chin up with two fingers so the boy would look him in the eye. Why did Harry feel so calm standing this close to the boy who has been his enemy for the last 6 or so years. Harry ignores the want to touch more of the boy's face and tries again. “please tell me Draco”
“Because i’m falling in love with you for merlin’s sake” Draco pulled his head back and looked away. “Because the thought that one of us could die without you knowing that I didn’t believe in the things my father believes in was eating me up inside. But now I told you and we can go back to trying to win this war and then I can leave you alone for the rest of your life”
“Why would I want that?” Harry says.
Draco's head shoots up and he looks Harry in the eyes. “What?”
Harry smiled at the boy's shocked expression. He steps close “what makes you think I would want you not to be in my life”
Draco is too shocked to speak so after a moment, Harry breaks the silence.
“Don't be afraid to tell me if I'm reading this situation wrong but I really want to kiss you right now, but if you don't wa-”
Draco cuts the other boy off with a kiss.
