Chapter 1
The last thing Severus remembered before dying was Harry Potter's face staring down at him in the Shrieking Shack.
He remembered the feeling of excruciating pain, followed by numbness as the poison from Nagini's bite started to affect him.
Then his vision turned blurry and everything faded to black.
---
Severus woke up slowly, his head aching.
As he opened his eyes, he noticed that he was in the tunnel that led to the Shrieking Shack. He sat up, noticing that he had been lying in an uncomfortable position.
Was he hallucinating?
Or was he alive? If so, had someone moved him here?
It was useless to ask questions he had no way of answering. Instead, he looked around, and saw his wand lying a few feet away. He stood up, feeling dizzy, and picked his wand up from the ground.
Quickly conjuring a glass and filling it with water, he drank it.
He felt a bit better now. Better as in he was no longer in danger of fainting on the spot. He then heard strange noises coming from the Shack which he hadn't noticed before.
That was odd... was Potter still there inside? If so, why would Potter drag him to the tunnel only to leave him there? It was definitely odd. And it needed investigating.
He went toward the source of the sound, walking fast.
Reaching the end of the tunnel, he peeked in and saw something that had filled him with fear and panic in his fifth year - a werewolf, snarling and showing his fangs dripping with saliva, coming towards him.
---
Severus in his fifth year had been cautious while going towards the tunnel, as he suspected a trap from Black.
He had walked much more slowly, back then, checking for hidden traps.
Because of this, Severus was not injured even if he had frozen in shock, as James Potter had arrived just in time to distract the werewolf and they had gotten away.
---
Severus was startled when he saw the werewolf and quickly cast a spell which formed a muzzle around the werewolf's face and thus preventing it from biting him.
But Severus, dizzy and feeling ill, wasn't fast enough to cast a shield charm before the creature attacked him with sharp, deadly claws.
He jumped back and avoided getting mauled in half but still got a rather deep gash on his chest.
He quickly cast a stronger version of the shield charm, protego maxima and stumbled back, exhausted.
Severus was losing a lot of blood. He must use a spell to clean the wounds and heal it.... but it was getting harder and harder to concentrate.
He somehow managed to slow the bleeding and stumbled out into the passage.
He knew he wouldn't be able to maintain the shield charm for long and had to get out while he still could.
He had to get out, get help, though the likelihood of getting help seemed rather slim for a branded traitor like him.
But was he in the same place? How had a werewolf gotten there? But there had been a full moon 3 days before the battle at Hogwarts. How many days had passed?
What was going on? Was he dead and in a sort of twisted afterlife? In his own personal hell?
He kept walking though, determined to find answers.
His vision was blurry, he did not have much strength left in his limbs. He just wanted to rest. He wanted....
"Snivellus! Hey, what the -?"
Came a shout in a vaguely familiar voice, but it stopped mid-sentence.
"Hey, Snape, wake up! You have to get up, and go to Madam Pomfrey!"
The voice was saying something else too, but it sounded far away to Severus.
It sounded like James Potter.
Severus was probably hallucinating, for there was no way Potter would yell at him to go to Pomfrey with such an urgent and panicked tone in his voice.
He felt the fake James Potter help him up. The fake Potter was helping him walk, no, he was half carrying him outside.
It was all very confusing and his brain was functioning abnormally slowly. It seemed as if he blinked and they were going up the castle steps.
Severus was still bleeding, though not as profusely as before.
They walked through the Great Hall, and fake Potter was guiding him through the passage to the left, heading (maybe) to the Hospital Wing.
