Remus was helping Mary with her school work in the back of the library. Mary had had a hard time recently and Remus wanted to help so when she seemed frustrated with her work he thought it was a great idea to help her out. Throughout the evening Mary had subtly been flirting with Remus. Remus too busy with his care of magical creatures essay didn't notice until Mary was practically sitting on his lap.
"Your so smart Remus" Mary put her head on Remus's shoulder
"Oh, uhm thanks, hows your transfiguration essay going"
"Its finished, your notes really helped me out, are you finished with your work?" Mary batted her eyelashes at him
"pretty much, we should head back up to the dorms now"
"Why don't we stay here a little longer, its nice and peaceful here"
Of course when Mary said peaceful she meant private. Remus didn't seem to object so she moved closer until she was about to kiss him. Remus pulled away. She tried again and Remus moved away again
"Mary I know your having a hard time right now but we shouldn't do this, lets go back to the common room"
Mary just scoffed and started packing up her stuff. Soon they both left, it was silent all the way back to there respective dorms.
--------------- The next morning ---------------
Remus woke up to a pillow being thrown at his face
"argh what the hell"
"Mooooony, good morning"
"Morning pads"
"James and peter are already down in the common room, I said id wake you up and bring you down"
"Okay, your method of waking someone up could use some work though" Remus rolled his eyes
"Shut up"
Sirius gave Remus a kiss
"Come on, lets go down" Sirius dragged Remus out of his bed"
Once in the common room everyone was doing there own thing. Marlene and lily were chatting, James was trying (and failing) to beat peter at chess and Sirius had reluctantly gone down to the kitchens to get everyone some hot chocolate. Remus went over to the tables and chairs to do some more work, and just his luck Mary was sitting there. He went and sat down anyway. They had been working silently for a while when
"Hey Mary, can you pass me that textbook"
"Sure"
"Uhm, you have been quiet all morning, is everything okay"
"uh huh" She said, her eyes still not wavering from her book
"You sure your alright"
"Yup"
"Okay, well uhm would you like me to get you some hot chocolate"
"FYI, in the future when a girl asks for some ill advised sympathy sex just do it" Mary stared at Remus
"Wait, your uh, mad at me about last night" Remus asked confused
"I was just doing the right thing"
"Really, well it seems to me that if you were doing the right thing I wouldn't have woken up today feeling stupid and embarrassed, I would of woken up feeling comfited and satisfied"
"I- i was just trying to look out for you"
"Remus, I am a big girl, I dont need someone telling me what is best for me"
"No, i- im not trying to tell you what is best for you, I just uhm" Remus was struggling and what was worse is that the others had come to see what all the commotion was about
"You know, you made me feel like shit Remus" Mary now had tears in her eyes
"I, i didn't know, im sorry" Remus did not know why girls reacted this way, he was so confused
"What, am- am I not good enough for you"
"No, Mary your one of my good friends"
"Mhm yeah, friends, Lily is your friend, I bet you would have sex with her"
At the sound of her name lily piped in
"Mary, Remus, whats going on"
"No, no, I- no, why would I want to have sex with lily" Remus made a disgusted face
"Whats wrong with me!!" Lily now was mad to
"I- NOTHING, you guys are my friends"
"I just wanted some sympathy sex, and of course there's something wrong with me, I should of known, If Remus - the nicest person I have ever met - turns me down then something must be wrong with me" Tears were streaming down Mary's face now
"Remus, your trying to get with the ladies I see"
"Oh shut up black" Lily and Marlene yelled
Of course Sirius knew that wasn't true, Remus was gay and in a committed - secret - relationship with him
"Mary, there is absolutely nothing wrong with you or you lily!, I - I don't know why you think that"
"You turned me down, why else would you do that if there wasn't something wrong with me" Mary sniffled
Remus didn't like it when girls cried
"I-i uhm because im gay" Remus said very quietly
"wha-what"
"Because, because im gay. I like men!, not women. Id take a dick anytime"
Everyone was too stunned to speak, well other than Sirius
"Wow, Remus. I never knew, im just speechless. I really thought that the guy who had never kissed a girl and sucked me off nearly every night was straight" Sirius smirked
Remus threw a book at him
"Ouch, that hurt"
"Call it pay back for this morning"
"That was a pillow you wanker!, books hurt so much more than pillows"
"Wa-Wait, you turned me down, because your gay" Mary wiped her eyes
"Yup"
"So, there is nothing wrong with me"
"omg, No, there is nothing wrong with anyone"
"WAIT"
"Yes James" Sirius smiled innocently
"You, and You. What, Wait You and Remus are together"
"5 points to James!"
Everyone burst out laughing and started to bombard Remus and Sirius with questions. When everyone had stopped asking question, Mary came up to Remus
"Im so sorry, I didn't - Im really sorry Remus"
"nah its fine, Please don't cry"
Mary laughed
"So, were good"
"Were great"
And from then on, everyone knows why Remus turns down every girl that asks him out.
