Chapter 6

||I feel like an NPC when I’m supposed to be the main character||

Y/N P.O.V

Its January and colder than ever as I wandered through Hogsmeade to get to Zonkos where I had agreed to meet Fred, in all the years that I’ve wandered the streets of Hogsmeade I’ve never bothered to go into Zonkos despite all of the good things I’ve heard about it.

As I stepped into the shop I realized that I regretted not going into the shop sooner, the chaos bouncing off of every wall and the smell of thousands of different products wafting through the place.

It was loud and comforting as I walked up the steps to try and find Fred, I saw his brother but not him, eventually I found him in front of the love potions fingering a bottle.

“Fred!” I called out his name.

He turned to me and smiled at me, wrapping me in his arms. He kissed my forehead despite the glances he gets from those around us.

“What’re you doing looking at love potions?” I asked.

“Georgie and I had an idea for a prank on Mr.Filch,” He grinned a mischievous twinkle in his golden-brown eyes.

“Oh yeah?” I laughed, what could this mischievous Weasley have in mind with a love potion and Mr.Filch.

“Yeah,” he said, echoing my response. “Now, now don’t go telling him will you?”

“Of course I won't Mr.Weasley,” I grinned a huge smile at him, he made me feel happy, like I didn’t need to hold onto Wood, despite my hidden feelings for Oliver I think that I finally realized that there was someone else out there for me, and that might actually be Fred.

“I want to get a pygmy puff,” I said pulling him towards the cages that they were housed in.

“Really?”

“Yeah, I mean I have my owl Venus but I want something for me to just have like all the time since Venus is always either in the Owlery or flying around somewhere hunting,” I shrugged.

“Yes, hi, can I get that little white one right there?” I asked the handler, the boy nodded smiling before opening the cage carefully to reach inside and grab the one I was pointing to rather harshly.

“No need to be so rude,” I rolled my eyes as he dumped it into my hand taking my money first.

“So what’re you going to name it?” Fred asked me as we left Zonkos, him with a bag filled to the brim with supplies and me with my pygmy puff and some food for it.

“I dunno,” I shrugged. “What’d you reckon I should name it?”

“You’re asking me?” He asked, raising his eyebrows.

“Yeah,” I smiled.

“I-uh…Gideon?” He suggested.

“Gideon?” I repeated. “Alright, Gideon.”

The pygmy puff crawled up to my shoulder and buried itself into my hood to keep warm, not that I was complaining because it kept me warm as well.

“You’re a fascinating person,” Fred said unexpectedly as we walked on the bridge back to the castle, the icicles lining the pathway.

“How so?” I wondered.

“Well, you’re a Slytherin-”

“I know that.” I chuckled.

“But you were friends with Wood and it sounds like you’re friends with Kenneth Towler as well, how’re you guys friends anyways?”

“Our parents are friends so I’ve known him since I was like eight,” I shrugged. “How does that make me fascinating?”

“They’re Gryffindors and you’re a Slytherin,” He said incredulously.

“I thought we passed this Fred,” I sighed.

“We did, but it still makes you interesting,” He laughed out loud.

“Yeah you’re right,” I shrugged. “Even still it's prejudiced.”

We walked for a bit in silence, like he was contemplating what I had said previously, instead of him replying I began to think a little bit deeper on something that Adrian had said.

When I had told him about going out with Fred, he said that it was probably a dare…I wanted to ask Fred about that.

“Hey, Freddie, I’m going to put Gideon back in my dorm but after there's something I want to ask you,” I said as we stopped outside of the Slytherin portrait.

“Yeah, yeah sure go ahead,” He waved his hands at me to hurry up.

I placed Gideon softly on my bed and left him to bury himself in my feather comforter. Fred was still waiting outside of the portrait hole when I came out, he smiled at me with bright brown eyes lighting up when he saw me.

“What did you want to ask me?” He asks me as we walk up the stairs towards the Great Hall for lunch.

“Well…I wanted to know if this whole thing-”

“What whole thing?”

“Us dating,” I said. “Is it a dare?”

He came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the crowded hallway.

“What?” He was so offended.

“Are we dating because of a dare, Fred?” I asked.

“No, of course not, I would never do that,” He said his last sentence going up an octave like a question he was asking himself.

“Really?” I asked.

“Of course, I really like you,” He said, dropping his bag and folded me into the tightest hug ever, kissing me in front of everyone, whispers and catcalls all around us as he pushed deeper into the kiss.

Only when I broke away did it end.

“I think we need to get something to eat…” I said breathlessly.

“I agree,” he murmured, kissing me quickly again.

We were in potions and Professor Snape had us surround the demonstration table. There was a cauldron of something simmering on low. It smelt really good, like everything that made me attracted to something was boiling in that cauldron. That was when I realized what it was.

It was Amortentia, the most powerful love potion in the world, what you smell is what you’re attracted to.

“This is Amortentia if you incompetent fools didn’t realize that,” Professor Snape said rolling his eyes. “But, because I have to teach your dreaded class I need a volunteer, yes Ms.Y/L/N come up,” He said, eyes landing on me.

“Now, tell me what you smell,” He lifted the lid and the smell hit me a hundred times more. I glanced at Fred and George, Fred was staring at me with a questioning look on his face as I breathed deeply, the smell was extremely comforting.

“I smell…broomstick wax, cinnamon, toffee? Something like burnt-out firecrackers?” I said out loud, I didn’t understand what that last one was, but there was also another smell in there…Oliver's cologne. “And…cologne.”

“Alright Ms.Y/L/N go ahead and step aside, ten points for Slytherin,” Professor Snape said with a satisfied look on his face.

I walked over to the back and got lost in thought, I still loved Oliver, but toffee and burnt-out firecrackers? I could only guess those smells belonged to one and only Fred Weasley…

“Yes Mr.Weasley?”

“Can I smell?” Fred asked Professor Snape.

Professor Snape sighed and nodded gesturing towards the cauldron, I glanced at Fred who was making consistent eye contact with me.

“I smell…” He looked confused and glanced at his brother before looking back at me.”Citrus…and freshly brewed coffee…and lavender perfume?”

I felt my eyes widen in surprise, I wore constant lavender perfume and citrus chapstick…I love freshly brewed coffee and that’s the only kind I’ll ever drink.

Adrian looked over at me with a hurt expression on his face when he smelled the amortentia.

“Well? What do you smell Pucey?” Snape asked impatiently.

“Lavender, fresh grass, and coffee,” He said hastily, everyone looked from Adrian to Fred and back to me. Fred walked over to me obsessively gripping my hand as Adrian made his way back to where I was standing.

Bloody hell two boys were attracted to me…

Later on that night, I walked the halls on patrol duty and felt a tap on my shoulder and immediately turned to see Fred standing there with a small bashful smile on his face as he held a red rose in his hand.

He must have conjured it because it was nowhere near for the roses in the garden to be ready to pluck.

“What’re you doing here Freddie? You’re not supposed to be here!” I glanced around to make sure it was just me because Adrian would turn him in in an instant.

“I know I’m not, but I couldn’t wait till morning after potions,” He said.

“Alright, what is it,” I said.
“Well, this is for you,” He handed me the beautiful red rose, and I couldn’t help but smile at him.

“I wanted to ask you a very important question.”

“What very important question is that?” I wondered.

“Are you falling in love with me Y/L/N?”
