Chapter 4

||What were you thinking when you pressed play?||

I woke up a few days before the Yule ball, a weird feeling in my mind as I sat up in my bed looking around at the girls in my dorm.

Quickly I got dressed and left the dorm room rubbing my arms as I made my way through the corridors, it was the middle of December and even magic couldn’t keep away the cold.

Luckily the Great Hall was empty, I just wanted some peace and quiet away from everyone, I had a late night last night. I had to fill in prefect duty for the Ravenclaws although I had already had my patrol night the night before them.

But the duties of being given extra responsibilities…

Quietly I ate my breakfast just as the sunlight really started to shine through the window panes.

“Y/N!” I hear my name being called from the front of the hall.

I see Fred running towards me with a grin on his face, I almost rolled my eyes as he sat down in front of me.

“What’re you doing up so early?” I asked to take a sip of my orange juice.

“I asked around and found that you come here early on the weekends,” He grinned.

“It's not the weekend Fred, it's Thursday,” I rolled my eyes. “So why are you really here?”

“To ask if you wanted to come to a party tonight in the Gryffindor common room,” He asked, his golden-brown eyes glinting in the sun.

“I don't know, I don’t think I’d be able to come…” I shrugged looking down at the tabletop.

“Why not?”

“Well…I'm a slytherin,” I sighed.

“And? I invited you, it's Georges and I’s party so we can invite whoever we want to,” I looked back up at him.

“Fine,” I smiled slightly at him.

“Fine…”

After dinner around eight o’clock I decided to get dressed and head up the stairs to the party, digging through my trunk for something that wasn’t my gown for the Yule ball.

“Hey Daphne!” I asked calling to my Greengrass friend, we were around the same size, maybe I could borrow something from her.

“Yeah?”

“Do you have any party dresses I could borrow?” I asked her.

She grinned almost excitedly as she began digging through her trunk tossing out a majority of her clothes before finding the right one for her.

Daphne walked over to me and said; “I thought you’d never ask.”

She ended up choosing a simple black dress that was sleeveless and tight, tossing it to me she began to dig through her trunk again pulling out some black heels.

“I-I don’t think I’ll need the heels,” I said as I started to get dressed.

“Trust me Y/N, you need the heels,” Daphne looked over at me with a questioning look.

Once I was dressed I tested out the heels to make her happy, they ended up not being as high as I thought that they would be so I was fine with them.

I waved goodbye to Daphne and left the dorm to the empty common room and out to make my way to the Gryffindor tower for Fred's party.

I stood outside of the portrait and waited almost stubbornly to knock on the side of the frame when it swung open and another redhead stepped out of the tower.

“Fred! Your girlfriends here!” He laughed into the common room.

“I’m not his girlfriend,” I sighed before walking into the cluster of people that made their way to the door to see who Fred's girlfriend was.

“Y/N! You made it!” A slurred voice called through the crowd, already sounding as if he had too much to drink.

I see Fred push through the crowd and pause when he sees me with a goofy grin on his face.

“Wow…” He said, looking me up and down.

“Is it too much?” I asked as he pulled me aside and shoved a drink into my hand.

“No, no you look good, I can’t lie, it's very different but you look good,” He said leaning a little closer the smell of fresh firewhiskey on his breath.

“Welcome to the party!” Another voice called, Freds twin George came over just about the same amount of drunk as his brother as he draped his arm on Freds shoulder looking me up and down with a look of what I believed to be lust in his eyes.

“You look hot, like hotter than you’ve ever looked, you should start wearing stuff like that all the time, that's probably why you’re single,” George laughed.

I chose to ignore the backhanded compliment and smile back at Fred.

“Thanks for inviting me Weasley,” I said.

“You're welcome there Y/L/N,” He smiled before glancing back at his brother.

I took this as an opportunity to take a sip of my drink, it tasted absolutely disgusting, I hated alcohol and they chose the worst kind of alcohol. Glancing around the room I noticed I was getting looks from everyone, it was all Gryffindors and I was the only Slytherin in the room. It almost made me nervous but I decided not to let it affect me.

I downed the cup I was given in one go before reaching for another liquor bottle, since that happened to be the only thing they had for refreshments.

“Hey Y/N, want to come dance with me?” I turn to see Kenneth Towler, a boy in my History of Magic class.

“Uh-”

“Towler, if you hadn’t realized, she’s here for me,” I hear Fred say, his arm thrown over my shoulder.

Kenneth gave Fred and George a look of what I sensed as disgust and it felt as if the three of them knew something that I didn’t, like they had a secret that related to me in some sort of way that I couldn’t comprehend.

“I’m sorry Ken, maybe some other time?” I proposed.

He shook his stare at the two twins before gazing back at me.

“Yeah, yeah of course,” He gave me a small smile before drifting back into the crowd.

I turned to Fred whose arm was still around my shoulder.

“C’mon,” I sighed and set my drink down dragging Fred into the middle of the dancing crowd music booming loud and uncontrolled just the way that I danced with him, moving my hips and head to the beat of the music not caring for once in my life how I looked.

I suppose the firewhiskey had some effect on the way I grinned at Freds terrible dancing, and the way that he smiled at me as his golden-brown eyes danced in the firelight.

We were lost. Lost in the music. In the heat of the moment. We were lost but we weren’t trapped like we could break away at any given moment if we wanted to. But we didn’t. The night went on as the party became less and less, people left with their partners and left to their own devices, by this time Freds hands were on my waist, my hands on his shoulders after a tireless night of dancing.

“I’ve got to go Fred…” I whispered.

“Let me walk you back,” He said to me.

I nodded slightly and allowed him to take my hand and lead me through the Gryffindor tower's portrait and down the hallway where every single teacher would finally be asleep in their own beds, not bothering to patrol the halls at this hour.

“I had fun,” I said quietly, lighting up my wand to see in the halls.

“You did?” Fred said surprisingly. “Brilliant!”

I looked over at him as we walked down the stairs to the dungeons and couldn’t help but grin at his puppy dog expression, he was still slightly drunk and so loose as he swung our intertwined hands in between us.

I stopped outside of the Slytherin door.

“Y/N?” Fred said my name so softly almost uncertainly.

“Yes Fred?” I said his name in the same tone and volume as he had said my own.

Can I kiss you ?”
