Young Love: A Fools Game

As Lily would say, James Potter was obsessive over her, and frankly, she agreed. Lately, though, he hasn’t been pulling out all the shots to make an attempt to ask her out. Quite frankly, Lily was mildly upset.

Firstly, she thought she would never feel the same infatuation as he did for her. Secondly, she did even though she would never admit it. You would be demented to not feel any sort of attraction to a guy like him. His curly hair and rectangular glasses that frame his face perfectly? Who wouldn’t?

Not only was he all of the above, he was maybe, a little, possibly, a gentleman. And maybe Lily lets her attraction cloud her judgment, but no one can deny that he’s particularly respectful to women.

She hadn’t talked to anyone about her little crush, as if she did, she would be teased endlessly. Well, she did to Remus, but only because he finds other people’s suffering enjoyable. Obviously, because he’s a sadist, but Lily no longer cared what Remus was. He’s a great listener.

He shall never know I love him. That was quote from Remusʼs favourite book, Wuthering Heights. What a perfect analogy for Lily’s life. Well, obviously, their love story isn’t all the same as the book (Remus described and didn't stop describing for hours) but the quote itself, represented what Lily feels, all day everyday.

She sighed as she attempted to not look at James whilst he laughed with Sirius.

A person slid next to her, coyly. “Hey, Lils. Staring at James again?” Remus had asked, knowing full well, she was.

She smacked his arm, heat rising through her cheeks furiously. She tried to hide her burning face, but Remus already caught up.

“You don’t have to hide, Lils. It’s completely normal to feel this way.” He was so subtly implying his fat crush on Sirius two years ago, in an attempt to loosen the mood and to relate to what she was feeling.

She shook her head. “Not when you have a crush on a guy you’ve been rejecting for over six years.” She sighed. She truly did regret not ever going on one date with him.

“Yeah, but James doesn’t care. He’s so oblivious, he didn’t even know me and Sirius fancied each other.” There he was again subtly implying his crush turned boyfriend.

“Are you saying because he’s a man, he can’t feel any sadness?” She raised her eyebrows at him in a teasing way.

“Yeah, men are trash. But that doesn’t stop you from being in love with James.” He shrugged aimlessly. He made fair points, and Lily did feel that way.

She smiled, coyly at his friends remarks. “Surprised you haven’t told Sirius about this yet.” She teased.

“I’m an asshole but that doesn’t mean I’m not a good friend.” He smirked, half-heartedly. “Course I haven’t told him.”

Lily giggled as she let her gaze to James again. He was in a momentarily in daze, whilst he watched Sirius speak and recite something in French. She glanced over to Remus who was blushing and possibly turned on. She smirked.

After Sirius stopped talking, Remus had calmed down and let Sirius sit next to him whilst they were flirting with each other. “So, Evans.” He started, curling his side locks. “Fancy James?”

Remus and Lily exchanged looks. Lily waved her hands around slowly, telling him to back down. “Uh—” He struggled, to comprehend.

“God, how stupid do you think I am, Moons?” He smirked, unknowingly at his boyfriend. “I’ve noticed.”

“Fine.” She exhaled. “Yeah, I do.”

Sirius clasped Remus’ arm, in surprise. “Oh my god, Moony you hear this? Lily fancies James back. I didn’t even know fully until now—”

“What?” Lily cut him off.

“I— I was just ma—making sure.” He stuttered. “I promise I’m not going to tell him.” He concluded, before leaving with a joyous smile.

Remus looked at Lily’s exasperated look. “You’ve got two days tops.” He whispered, coyly and Lily groaned loudly.

If I am going to do this, I’m going to do this right. With a grand gesture.

After talking to Remus about her insatiable crush, Lily had finally composed herself and decided she was going to tell James on her own.

She went all around the common room, asking for things that would make a grand gesture, grand.

In it’s own aspect, asking out James on the quidditch pitch would be romantic and beyond incomparable to anything Lily has ever done. But as an overachiever, Lily decided to go all out.

“Hey, James.” Her voice slowly tinting nervousness, but James was too caught up to notice. “Go to the quidditch pitch at 9:30, tonight. I have to show you something.”

He looked at her aimlessly. “What? Why? Is something wrong?” He asked, franticly.

“Uh— no. I just need to show you something.” She didn’t realise she was sending the wrong tone of messages.

After careful consideration and suspicions, James agreed to meet her. Now, all that was left was to wait.

The minutes flew by as Lily sat on the dark and unlit quidditch pitch. She was getting cold feet at the last possible second, but like a normal teenager, she decided to suppress her undefeated feelings and go on with it. She held a parchment with a speech written out for James inscribed on it with her flawless hand writing. She decided to scarp the stupid essay of sorts, and decided to speak from the heart.

She was sweating slightly as she saw James walk over to the slightly lit area of said pitch. He rubbed his hands together in the cold. “Hi, what’s up?” He asked, titling his head to the side. His nose was red from the cold weather and he was looking adorable.

Focus, Lily

She inhaled before standing up. Her wand was in her pocket and she grabbed it and chanted a revealing spell.

She hadn’t said a word to James and that freaked him, but she only smiled to reassure him.

The words ‘I fancy you too’ was materialising in the air as Lily waved her wand around. She glanced over to James, who took a step backward in surprise whilst an amazed expression was plastered on his face.

That wasn’t it though. Lily walked over to an unlit part of the pitch and lit a pair of fireworks. Muggle fireworks, colored Orange and Red. Fitting both their favourite colours.

Then, the pitch lit up, revealing Lily standing amidst the fireworks. “Will you be my boyfriend, Potter?” She asked, slowly as she tried to read his current emotion.

“A thousand times yes, Evans.” He smiled happily before looking at the fireworks.

Obviously, Lily was going to get in trouble for this, but wasn’t it worth it?

“God, Evans. You didn’t have to go all out.” James gasped the sight to behold. “How am I going to top this for our first month anniversary?”

He was focusing on different things, but. Lily didn’t mind his competitive spirit. “Bring on the heat, and try.”

He smirked, innocently before pulling Lily by the waist and into his arms. “Oh, I will.” He kissed her cheek then her lips. His touch, his kiss, his private infatuation was everything Lily had ever dreamed of.

The fireworks didn’t stop as they deepened the everlasting kiss. His lips soft on hers, but was evidently cold from the winter weather. His hands gripped her waist tighter as she deepened the kiss even more, whilst her hands were firmly planted on his cheeks. She smiled gracefully into said kiss, and couldn't stop herself from giggling. James only laughed back.

After several moments of laughing at each others antics, the everlasting long kiss resumed. Lily felt like she was in a deep, deep high. She wished to never float away from this feeling.

Then, a spell was shot to the air, vanishing Lily’s fireworks, causing her to pull away from James. He shrugged a look of ‘what?’ and Lily only replied with a point to Professor McGonagall and Madame Hooch, standing in the middle of the pitch, with disappointed looks on their faces as they gestured them to walk towards them. Lily groaned, knowing points would be taken from her, and James only laughed, and pulling her closer by the waist as they walked to said parental figures.

“Hello, Miss Evans and Mister Potter. Lovely night?” McGonagall sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. She gestured them to keep walking back to the castle as she whispered, “Oh, young love. What a fools game.” dramatically.
