summer 1976
"Come on now, flick the spinner."
"I gotta green!"
"Yep, that's right. Can you find the next green space?"
"There!" Betsy pointed on the board.
"That's right, it means you can stop at Fortescue's and buy ice cream." Marie handed her sister the toy cone. "You just won!"
"Yeah!" Betsy clapped. "Can we play again?"
"Just a minute. Joel might want to play too. Joel!" Marie hollered down the hallway. "We're starting a new round of Diagon Alley Errands. Wanna play?"
"Naw, that's a baby game! Exploding snap is way cooler."
"You know Mum doesn't want us to play snap in the living room. That goo gets everywhere."
"You're not Mum," Joel said. "You can't stop me."
"We can still play outside. The rain's finally stopped. Betsy, you can team up with me if you want."
"Okay. Girls rule!"
Marie laughed. "Oh yeah, we're totally gonna win. Get ready to lose, Joel!"
