John Hughes Movie

Hermione was sat with Ginny and Pansy in her bedroom trying to find a good outfit to wear. Pansy held up a black dress whereas Ginny held up a periwinkle dress. She chose Ginny’s option, slipping it over her head and looking at herself in the mirror. “Do you think he’ll notice me in this dress?” She asked, biting her lip as she twisted and turned, scrutinising her appearance.

“He’ll notice you this time for sure, Hermione.” Pansy nodded, appraising her outfit. “You need a soft pink lip, not red. Red looks good with white and black,” she cooed, stroking Hermione’s hair.

Ginny came out of the bathroom in a curve hugging emerald green dress, with green eyeshadow to match. “What do you think, ladies?”

“Blaise is going to go mad,” Pansy giggled. “Can you believe we practically swapped boyfriends?”

“The best idea we’ve ever had. Harry and I weren’t working, and neither were Blaise and you. That double date we had was the best decision we ever made.”

“You both went in with one partner, and came out with another,” Hermione laughed as she fastened her earring. “I’ve never known anyone to do that.”

Once all of the girls were ready, they all gripped onto each other’s arms and apparated into muggle London, ready to dance the night away with the people they loved the most. Hermione was nervous, though, because she really wanted tonight to be the night she finally told Draco how she felt. She bit her lip again before walking into the club, showing the bouncer her ID. He looked her up and down before allowing her entry, giving her a quick smack on the bum. She ignored it, rolling her eyes and allowing the heat of the building and the pulse of the beat to take her away.

Her eyes scanned the dancing crowd for Draco’s blonde head, knowing he was a foot taller than most of the people in here, it shouldn’t be a hard feat. She spotted him instantly, dancing with a petite muggle girl, grinning into her ear as she latched her lips onto his neck.

This wasn’t how it’s supposed to go, she thought, turning away to get to the bar. I should be the one you’re dancing with.

She took her drink, and started dancing with Theo, holding her vodka and coke in the air as she spun, noticing that everyone was basically at her fingertips, she was going to get her coat, hoping it would make him follow her, and she would’ve acted surprised, even though she knew Draco knew she wanted him.

Pansy offered for her to come out and get some fresh air, have a cigarette with her. She agreed, standing out in the crisp night. “It’s not like I’ve been crying, Pans,” she insisted. “There’s just smoke in my eye.”

A girl turned to them at that moment, wiping away Hermione’s tears drunkenly. “This isn’t a John Hughes Movie where the girl gets the guy, babe,” she said whimsically. “He’ll look right through you every time you walk by.”

“She keeps waiting for the heartbreak music, but it’s never going to come.” Pansy interjected.

“If he doesn’t want me,” Hermione sighed, “I guess he’s not the one.”

Hermione went back inside, going straight to the bathroom and she sat on the floor. She was trying to get her composure back, I think I built it up too tall, she thought, maybe if I had reigned it in, he wouldn’t want to kiss somebody else, but he didn’t owe her anything.

She decided to get her coat at that point, and just apparate home by herself, telling Blaise to let Ginny know she was going home, because Pansy was nowhere to be seen. She wiped a lonely tear from her cheek, but she wasn’t crying. She had smoke in her eyes.

This wasn’t a John Hughes Movie where the girl gets the guy.

Draco looked right through her every time she walked by.

She kept waiting for the heartbreak music that was never going to come.

If Draco didn’t want her, then he wasn’t the one.

She got halfway down the road from the club towards the apparition point, and realised that she couldn’t leave. What was she going to say? What was she going to do? She heard someone call her name.

“Granger!”

She turned to see Draco storming towards her. “Where are you going?”

“All of our stupid friends knew that I was here for you,” she grinned sadly.

“I guess you misunderstood...” Draco trailed off.

“I thought you liked me, too.”

What was she going to say? What was she going to do?

“Granger,” he said, softly.

“Everyone told me so, not to wait around for you.”

“I guess you misunderstood.” He said again. “I do like you, too.”

“So this is a John Hughes Movie where the girl gets the guy?”

Draco gripped her hand in his. “You looked right through me every time I walked by.”

“There isn’t any heartbreak music,”

“It’s never going to come.”

“I guess, if you do want me..”

“I guess you are the one.”

It had started raining, so Draco cast a warming charm on her, before he kissed her in the downfall.
