invisible
september 30th, 1979
“Godrick, you are so annoying, Evan.” Barty said as they were sitting in their dorms one evening. Regulus, Evan and Barty were currently trying out some new candy, they had bought that day at Honeydukes; they had just released some candy that would give you the ability to become invisible.
at first Regulus didn’t buy it, candy that would make you invisible for longer than 5 minutes? absolutely not, impossible. Or so Regulus thought, they did work, and he already knew he was going to love using these.
James and Sirius would have loved using them, Regulus would probably send them some later; if only they were still at Hogwarts, they would be able to pull some cool pranks with it.
“literally Evan, i’m going to brutally murder you in your sleep!” Barty now said, Evan had taken some pieces of the candy around ten minutes ago; and he was, for some reason, still invisible.
“i don’t think you’re going to be able to off him in his sleep, if he’s still bloody invisible by then.”
Regulus felt Evan pull his ear, and he slapped behind him, and then heard a silent ‘ow!’
he stood up from his bed and sat down on the couch that was build into the floor of the room; Regulus always thought it was very cool, and he often wondered what other house’s’ dorms looked like.
the Slytherin dorms were these big rooms, they were definitely bigger than Regulus’s room at home, even though the family clearly had enough money, grimmauld place wasn’t a necessarily big house, therefore his room was smaller as well.
The dorms had four to six beds each, it depended on how many people were sorted into the house that year. Regulus had never been in the girls’s dorms, obviously, but he figured they looked the same.
in the middle of the room, there was this part of the floor, where a deep green couch was build into the floor work. The Salazar of Slytherin was carved into the ceiling, where a massive green chandelier hang, coming from its tongue. the snake would always sizzle on the day of quidditch games; ‘gooooooo ssssslytherinnnnnnn!’
everyone obviously had their own closet, desk and chair, next to their bed. Regulus had bought a small Persian rug, the first time he had visited muggle London, and he decided to bring it to Hogwarts; he liked the way the green of his room matched the red and blue undertones of the rug.
“Mulciber asked for you today, said something about a girlfriend…?” Evan, who now was visible again, started. “and wow, you are not even listening, Black!”
“huh, what?”
“ugh! this is what we keep saying! it’s like you’re not even here anymore, Reg.” Barty said, now sitting next to him.
“yeah, sorry, i’ve just you know… got a lot on my mind?”
“oh, of course you have! with your non-existent girlfriend, obviously!” Barty said, laughing.
“he obviously doesn’t have a girlfriend, what girl would date him?” Evan said, fake sobbing and dramatically hugging Regulus, making him give him the middle finger.
“shut up you folks, i could get any girl i want, if i wanted to. unlike you, obviously.” he said, whispering the last part
at least they didn’t ask any further than the girlfriend thing, and luckily Mulciber hadn’t said anything about a letter. Regulus hated keeping secrets from them, but right now he had to; for their safety, and his as well.
the next day was a regular one, Slughorn complementing Regulus’s talent for potions all lesson, which he had liked at first; but now it was just plain annoying, and he probably mostly did it because of his last name, which was even more annoying.
they were now in History of magic, Regulus actually quite liked the class, his classmates didn’t agree with him on that though. Evan was sitting next to him, sketching a little on his parchment; he was very talented. Or so Regulus had always thought, Evan wouldn’t hear it.
even though Regulus was paying attention, he was staring out the window; he had, once again, already read this chapter, so there wasn’t much left to learn.
there was a… moving, thing? in the air? Regulus couldn’t really see what it was, but it came flying towards the window, faster, and faster-
an owl fell down, right as it hit the window. making everyone in the class turn their heads towards the sound.
Regulus stood up and opened the window, the owl was now laying in the little flowers that hung under the window. he grabbed him, and pulled him into the classroom, the letter attachment to him was for Regulus; he grabbed the letter and put it in his bag.
“sir, can i bring to professor Ferox? i think he needs some, fixing up?” Regulus asked.
the professor nodded, and started teaching again. Regulus grabbed his stuff, and walked out, holding the owl like a baby.
when he finally, after what must have been a solid ten minutes, arrived at the black lake, where professor Ferox was currently teaching, he started walking a little faster to get to him.
he walked up to him, he didn’t want to yell through a class; that would be embarrassing.
“professor, i think there’s something wrong with this owl.” he stopped for a little, he was somewhat out of breath but he didn’t want Ferox to notice.
“oh dear, give him to me, will you?”
Regulus cautiously gave him the owl, and watched as Ferox preformed some spells on it; making the owl ‘wake up’, turn to Regulus (who had been petting its head), and bite in his finger.
“thanks.”
the owl flew away as Regulus tried to stop the blood flowing from his finger, he looked at Ferox again, who was snickering.
“you are not in my class, are you?”
Regulus shook his head, and professor Ferox smiled a little.
“you probably don’t want to hear this, but you actually remind me of your brother. you are so unlike him, but that’s why you remind me of him.” he said.
Regulus didn’t quite know what to say, he obviously saw it as a compliment; seeing he had always tried to be even the littlest bit like Sirius. But everyone, who wasn’t involved in the order stuff, still thought he hated Sirius.
“uh, well, thank you?”
Ferox nodded. Regulus had always pitied he hadn’t taken Care for Magical creatures; it seemed like such an interesting subject, obviously the professor was bloody cool too.
“i should go, uh my next class is in..” Regulus looked at his watch, 11:40. “in uh… well bye!” his next class wouldn’t start for another 30 minutes.
