A Little Spontaneity Never Hurt Anyone

Please don’t mind any grammar/spelling mistakes. MY keyboard broke and I had to type this in my iPad screen.

Many words have been used to describe Draco Malfoy. Selfish, arrogant, loud, flashy, fashionable, expressive, extremely caring of his family and friends, the occasional slur from some random stranger, stubborn, and, well you get the idea. But of all the words used to describe him, spontaneous has never been one of them.

That was until he and Harry got together. Harry on the other hand pretty much never thinks before he acts. Not once during Hogwarts, and still not now, although he has gotten better (probably thanks to Draco). That’s one reason why they make such a great couple, they balance each other out, influence each now. Now Draco thinks of spur of the moment plans, even if it is just a walk around the park or to the ice cream parlor. And Harry doesn’t just charge straight into action anymore. However, when it comes to big things, like marriage, Draco has to have every single things laid out. Even down to the smallest detail. So it was a shock to everyone when Draco proposed. Not necessarily in the act itself, but how he did it. Without any forethought or planning, just pure spontaneity.

It was late one summer evening, we were all together, laughing and just having a good time and probably pissing off their annoying neighbors. But it was a nice night, the air was warm, the breeze was cool, and there was an unusual amount of stars visible that night. But none of that mattered to the two of them though, they were two busy being completely enchanted by one another. It doesn’t take a master auror to be able to see how in love they are, or to notice their giant, almost sickeningly sweet smiles they only have for each other. Draco had been smiling at him all night with an arm slung around his shoulder. Their fingers entangled on their lap. And then it happened. It came out in the middle of a laugh from something Harry said, the whole room was filled with it, but his words were heard by everyone, loud and clear. Harry was so shocked he choked on his wine so much it practically came out of his nose. That was a sight to see. So were the utterly shocked expressions on the faces of everyone in the room. The words ‘let’s get married’ hung in the air. Harry sat frozen for what felt like eternity before snapping back to reality with his enthusiastic answer followed by the loud cheers by everyone else. I think Pansy even conjured a bottle of champagne and popped it open right in the middle of the garden.

And so what started out as a group of friends hanging out having dinner, turned into a celebration filled with even more loud laughter and plenty of drinks. Which leads us to this long awaited day where I finally get to see two of my great friends, one of which is more like a brother to me, get married. So let’s all raise a glass and cheers to the happy couple.

Ron held up his glass high in the air before adding, “Oh and Harry, I had my money on you being the one who proposed.” Ron finished his speech and drank from his glass before returning to his seat next to Hermione.

“Who knew you could be such a sap, talking about the stars.” Draco teased him. The wide smile on his face had not once disappeared today, and neither had Harry’s.

“Where was this writing talent when we were in Hogwarts?” Harry had to pry his eyes away from Draco’s profile illuminated by the countless floating candles. “But seriously, mate, that was one hell of a speech. And I’m sorry that I costed you money.” He laughed for what was probably the millionth time tonight, and there will be a million more.

“Don’t worry about it,” Ron shrugged, “and I meant every word of what I said. You two are great together. I’m also glad I could witness the stick coming out of Draco’s ass for once.” He teased right back for the sap comment Draco made.

“Very classy.” Draco rolled his eyes still smiling.

“Alright, enough poking fun at each other.” Harry stood and offered his hand for Draco. “Come on Love, let’s go dance.”
