The One Where James Plans On How To Ask Regulus In Front Of Reg's Brother
James was sitting in the Marauders room, trying to come up with ideas about how to ask out Regulus. "Maybe I could charm 'Will you go out with me Regulus?' into the sky", James ponders. "Maybe you could charm 'James+Regulus' in a heart", Peter adds. "Maybe you could just ask him", Remus inputs. "Or maybe YOU DON'T ASK HIM OUT AT ALL", Sirius screams. James sighs dreamily as if he didn't even hear Sirius. "But he deserves the best cause he's so beautiful", James explains. "Oh my merlin", Sirius says exasperated.
As James was discussing more ideas they walk into the common room and see Regulus sitting on the couch reading, James stops walking completely and just stares at Reg. Before he can turn around Remus says, “This is your moment” and pushes him into Regulus. James falls onto Regulus and they freeze for 5 seconds before they both scramble to get off of each other all while the rest of the Marauders are snickering in the background.
“H-hey Reg”, James stutters. “Hey Jamie”, Regulus says, James just smiles. This shocked everyone as James never lets anyone and I mean anyone call him Jamie, so the fact that Regulus said it with such ease and that James just smiled means that James really likes Reg. “Would you like to hang out with me in the library on Saturday?" James asks. “You can read”, Regulus jokes. “Hardee Har, yes I can read”, James laughs. “But, yes I will hang out with you” Reg finally says. “Wait really”, James says surprised. “Yeah idiot also dress appropriately, I don’t want to spend the entire time in the library” Reg says. “Oh ok” James says, still shell-shocked by the fact that Reg even said yes.
James goes back to the dorm and starts running around and starts doing a victory dance. “HE SAID YES HE SAID YES” James screams. “HE SAID YES HE SAID YES” Sirius cries jokingly. “Don’t worry Sirius I’m sure James will treat Regulus well” Peter explains hoping Sirius wouldn’t hurt James. As James is still screaming and victory dancing Regulus walks in and everything freezes and goes quiet. “Um James just wanted to say that do something to your hair before we hang out” Regulus says suspiciously. As Regulus leaves everyone continues what they were doing and James starts planning out his outfit.
Regulus goes home to his dorm and screams into his pillow because he has a maybe date with James Motherfucking Potter. Sure it was just to the library and is probably just to study potions or something. He really could just be being nice or pranking him, James is known for that. He hopes not. He is in too deep now. If James was just pranking him he would crawl in a hole and die. Regulus falls asleep thinking about him and James’ date on Saturday.
Saturday has come and Regulus and James’ date is here. James had tried his best with the outfit and his hair, while Regulus had been fidgeting with his tie for 30 minutes. Soon they meet in the library. “Reg come here!” James yells across the room. Regulus walks over as Madam Pince shushes James and he whispers sorry. “So first I thought we should study some charms or learn some new spells. We could read some muggle books as well or we can…”, James rambles. Regulus shushed him by grabbing his hand and saying “We can do whatever you want”, causing James to blush. They continued to hold hands while both of them read muggle books. James was reading Watership Down while Regulus was reading Stepford Wives.
Soon the sun was setting and Regulus had the perfect plan. “Hey, you wanna go sit by the lake?” Regulus asks. “Shore” James says, waiting for a laugh. Regulus is just looking around. “You know like the shore and water and lakes, you know what nevermind it was stupid anyway” James says, scratching his head nervously. “No no it wasn’t stupid it was a very good joke and for a very certain audience that was hilarious” Regulus explains trying to make sure James doesn’t feel bad, James smiled at this. They held hands all the way to the lake. They sat under a tree facing the sunset. “Me and Sirius used to watch the sunset outside before we had to stop talking to each other because of Mother and Father” Regulus says, after a few minutes of silence. “That is really amazing. I wish I had someone to watch sunsets with” James responds. “You can always watch sunsets with me Jamie” Regulus confirms. James smiles and gives a thank you. “Sunsets are so beautiful” Regulus sighs. “Just like you”, James says suddenly. Regulus looks into James’ hazel eyes and stumbles out a “Really?”. “Of course”, James pushes. “You know James you have really shaped my Hogwarts experience and I’m glad I met you” Regulus says blushing. “Really?!, I mean of course I have”, James says with pseudo-confidence. This causes Regulus to laugh.
Once the sun officially sets and it is dark outside James and Regulus head back inside the castle. They hold hands all the way to the Marauders dorm. “I had a great time tonight Jamie”, Regulus whispers. “Me too”, James whispers back. “Goodnight” Regulus whispers before kissing James on the cheek. As Regulus walks away James is internally screaming. That screaming turns external when he walks into the Marauders dorm. “What the fuck is going on James” Sirius and Remus yell at the same time. Peter is still sleeping like a rock. “Reg happened”, James says dreamily. Sirius groans as Remus explains, “Well if you are going to wake us all up at least tell us what happened”.
“Ok well first we met up in the library and I started to ramble about what we could do cause I was so blinded by his beauty”. This causes Sirius to groan even more. James ignores him and continues with, “Then he grabbed my hand and said that we could do whatever I wanted. Yes you heard me correctly he grabbed my hand, and continued to hold my hand after we decided to read some muggle books. Then he said we should go to the lake to watch the sunset. He held my hand all the way there, yes all the way there. Then we sat under the tree and watched the sunset. Then we walked back to the dorm and he said goodnight and then he, wait for it…HE KISSED ME ON THE CHEEK, ON THE CHEEK. I’m never washing my cheek again.” “You never do anyway” Remus comments. James sighs and says “He’s everything I’ve been missing”. This causes Sirius to groan louder than he ever has. “Shut up Siri, it’s cute,” Remus scolded. “It's not so cute when it's your BABY BROTHER” Sirius emphasizes. Peter suddenly turns around and says, “Go to bed you fools”.
As James lays in his bed and thinks about how Regulus is everything he has ever wanted and how he will make sure that Reg is always treated well, whether or not he was with James (though he would love it if he was). Meanwhile in Regulus’ dorm Regulus was freaking out about how he had been called beautiful by James Potter. How he held James’ hand and kissed James on the cheek. He just hoped this would last forever.
