Remus was walking to his potions class, their last period for the day, when he heard the familiar footsteps behind him.
"Hiya Moony!" Sirius's head popped up.
"Hello Pads." Remus said annoyed, almost dropping his books as the raven haired boy nudged him in the shoulder.
"Why do you need so many books for potions?" Sirius furrowed his eyebrows.
"I'm planning our next prank too." Remus said, taking a turn to an other corridor, and starting to take even bigger steps so the it'd be harder for the shorter boy to follow him.
Remus didn't always like being around head taller than everyone, but sometimes it was useful. He didn't want to be near Sirius. During the summer they wrote to each other a lot, and that made Remus realize something he wouldn't like to admit - he liked Sirius, and not only in a friend way. He had been trying to avoid Sirius for the past month, because he didn't know what to do. Usually he was pretty good at hiding everything, but he still caught himself smiling sometimes, and Merlin - even blushing. He was afraid he'd scare Sirius away, so he'd decided to keep it a secret. Buried inside him, until the feelings that kept him up at night would fade away.
"Nice. Moony the mastermind." Sirius grinned. Remus wanted to stab the butterflies in his stomach one by one. Something about the other boy's smile made him happy.
They walked to Slughorn's classroom in quiet, and sat down at one of the cauldrons. At the beginning of the year Sirius was sitting with James, and Remus with Lily, but Sirius had to be sat away, because him and james were very loud, and kept doing random spells or blowing upthe contains of their cauldron, and for some reason Slughorn thought Remus could be a good idea.
"Yesterday we learnt about the effects and ingredients of Amortentia, and today you are going to be attemping brewing it." Slughorn said, and sat down at his desk in front of the students. "Everything you might need is in the cabinets at the back of the room."
"I'm gonna go get everything, can you check the instructions?" Remus said as he stood up.
"'kay Moony." Sirius said, seeming a little bit - nervous? Remus was getting nervous too, Sirius never really cared about his classes, this was unusual.
"You okay Pads?" he asked.
"Yeah." Sirius gave him a smile.
Remus went to the cabinets, collcted the ingredients while not being able to take his mind off of Sirius. What if he smelled him? What would he say? He had to come up with something, but didn't know what.
He walked back to him, and sat down. They were preparing the ingredients in silence it was time to add the rose thorns.
"Do I just shove them in?" Sirius asked. "Or do I have to do something to make it dissolve or whatever?"
"I belive you just threw them in." Remus collected the thorns and added them to the cauldron.
The potion turned into a pearly mixture of pink and purple.
"Good job, Mooncakes!" Sirius gave Remus a smaller slap on the back.
"Mooncakes?" Remus laughed quietly.
"Oi, James! How are you doing mate?" Sirius whisper-yelled to James across the room.
"I think good, but 'ts not really pink." James shook his head.
"You forgot the rose petals." Lily whispered to him, from a near by cauldron.
"Thanks Evans!" James replied a little louder than they were originally talking and Lily turned away, slightly annoyed. "Why is he always gotta be so loud?" she'd say to Remus.
"I think we're done." Remus nudged Sirius's shoulder.
"Yeah, probably, can you smell anything?" the raven haired boy leaned closer to the cauldron.
"I don't know." Remus leaned closer too. He had to come up with something. "It's sort of like books? I guess."
"I can't really smell anything, only chocolate, and maybe parchment? Weird." Sirius laughed.
Remus found it logical, many people love chocolate and they were in a bloody school. He was still slightly upset because of the leather, cologne and dog fur he smelled.
"It seems like almost all of you are done?" Slughorn looked at Peter attempting to crush a pearl. "You can leave early, just clean up after yourselves, and if I catch anyone taking some of the potion, they'll get detention." He let out one of those weird chuckles he does.
Everyone cleaned up their cauldrons with a few wand movements and left.
The marauders walked back to their dorm to drop of their books - and for Remus to pick up new books. It was quidditch practice, and him and Peter agreed to watch James and Sirius play. It was getting colder and colder by day, so Remus decided to put on another sweater. Winter and Autumn were his favourite seasons, but he still hated freezing.
He sat down on the bleachers next to Peter and got one of his books out. He recently started reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. As it darkened, James and Sirius got off their brooms and soon started walking back to the dorms with the other two marauders.
They didn't get much homework that day, so Remus thought he could finish it after they arrived back. He picked up a roll of parchment, a quill, some books, and walked down to the common room.
He also brought Jane Eyre with him, because he would always get distracted by a raven haired quidditch player while they were still in the pitch.
He sat down at one of the sofas at the fire place, and started writing. After he was done he read a few chapters, when he heard Sirius walking behind him, yawning.
"You aren't planning to sleep or?" he asked, sitting down next to him.
"Bloody hell, what time is it?" Remus asked, looking up from his book.
"I don't know, but James and Pete are already knocked out." he said. "You shouldn't stay up so late, y'know? 'T's a nightmare to get you out of bed in the mornin'."
"I'm not sleepy." Remus replied, putting his book down.
"Me neither." Sirius said. "I really wanted to... tell you something. I might have lied."
"About what?" Remus was starting to get concerned, he wasn't used to Sirius being so worried.
"You remember today's potions class?" he asked.
"Yeah?"
"I..." Sirius looked down, his hair falling into his face. "I only told you about one thing I smelled. I didn't want it to be so obvious. The other two things were old books, not just parchment, and tea. It's you, Moony. I'm sorry. I know this is probably weird, "he started talking faster and more quiet. "and I don't expect you to return any of this, but I have been feeling guilty, and like I have to tell you, because I felt bad for looking at you this way, when you probably aren't... y'know. I get it if you want me to leave, but I felt like I had to tell you, it just didn't feel fair."
"I..." Remus was shocked. He thought he could have never even expect Sirius to feel this way. It almost didn't feel like the truth. The boy he loved telling him he liked him? "Sirius... I like you too."
At first Remus was afraid, he felt like this wasn't happening, but then he slowly realized - it is real. His feelings are mutual?
"You do?" Sirius looked up surprised, and Remus could see him quickly wipe away the tear that was forming in his eye.
"Yes, Pads." Remus gave him a small smile. He slowly leaned closer to him, and hugged him.
Remus had never been so happy. Sirius likes him. After a long day, he was hugging him, sitting at the warmth of the fire place in their favourite place.
