Ch.4
Ambrose.POV

It was around midnight and not for the first time I was staying up late to read a book. When I was younger I would always get just the right amount of sleep but now that I could read it was a whole new story. Ha get it.
I was re-reading Sherlock Holmes, the only disturbance being the loud snores from the bed next to me and the tweets from the birds. I had gotten used to the snores, being forced to share a room since I was a baby this usual bother became white noise.
"FRICKATING FRACKING BUZZ WAGGLES" a women shrieks outside. My head snaps up from my book and I throw it to the floor, it lands with a loud slam, I would have to deal with the angered boys later I was too curious as to what the sudden hubbub was about. I run to the window quickly scouting the source of the noise. Sherlock Holmes had fallen to the ground and I curse under my breath at my newly lost page.
Strangely everyone else in the room stayed asleep, there was usually at least one or two ultra sensitive to noise who would wake to the turning of my pages, or at 2am when I had to use the bathroom.
In the driveway to the orphanage a women stood deranged, she had messy blond hair that looked like it hadn't been brushed in years and multicoloured paper glasses rested on top. She was petite and wore hobo clothing that you would usually see the gypsys wearing on horseback.
Bloody hell, despite my horrible observation skills, I couldn't help but notice she was missing an arm. She noticed too and was now swinging an odd stick around helplessly in her other arm her mouth moving indicting words. Small sparks lifted from the stick before almost instantly disappearing.
Suddenly, her arm appeared out of nowhere growing like a tree truck layer by layer. I rub my eyes, what a weird kind of dream was this. I blink them open again and to my great surprise she was still there, now stretching out her hand and cracking he fingers.
She let out a sigh of relief and I couldn't help but continue to onlook. She walked up to the door and knocked loudly, yet the orphanage didn't stir. I turn to look at the other boys they were still sound asleep. One of the older boys had a thumb half way down his throat. Noted for future teasing.
Another loud knock echoed through the walls and I decide I should probably go answer it. This is a dream anyway what's the point in being a wuss.
I try my best to avoid the creaking floor boards but failed miserably at my hurried attempt to get to the door. I wasn't 100 present sure as to if this would lead to my demise or not but as they say curiosity kills the random orphan boy who reads too much mystery books.
I get to the front door faster then I thought. My feet were now freezing against the unheated hardwood floors. The heating only ever goes on if the owners are cold, and it seems at the moment they are very, very warm.
A knock once again sounds and vibrates at my feet, how strong is this women? I open the door.
"Hello?" I question. A huge smile breaks out on her face, it stretches up her cheeks pushing against her eyes where a glitter had already begun dancing.
"Ambrose" she states. I blink in confusion.
"Who in the bloody hell are you and how do you know my name" I utter in worry. I'm not sure who this women was but I had already extended my arm to the pen I keep in my back pocket. It has a screwdriver and a knife on, I got it from the pound shop, a fathers day special (ironic) and use it to take notes in my book.
"I'm Luna Lovegood" she smiles even more which I didn't think was humanly possible "I'm a professor at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry"
"Shut up"
"I'm not falling for you bloody cheek, who do you think you are, it's 12am and I'm at an orphanage give me a break" I spit.
Her glitter falls from her eyes and her smile forms into a slight frown. "I see, I guess that is how it must seem" then she lifts the stick in her right hand, the one she just got back, and pointed it at my face.
I froze in worry. "Lumos" a light as bright as the sun begins to shine from the end of the stick and I stumble back guarding my eyes.
"Why'd you have to do it in my face" I exclaim, trying to work out how the hell light had just come out of that stick, maybe it was some kind of torch.
"Sorry" a light smile spread across her face again, she was very smiley, she reminded me of a sunflower. Which is ironic since her name is Luna, pretty sure that means like night or star in Italian or something.
"So is that like a torch then" I ask. She chuckles lightly and hands it over to me. I turn it over in my hand. It was short and plain, the only decoration being a closed flower handle and a bump just above it. It had scratches and knacks coating the surface but looked well polished and taken care of.
I search for a button so I could turn the light on. Then I realised she said a word instead of pressing anything, must be some kind of fancy technology their developing.
"Lum-" she grabbed the wand out my hand hastily.
"Don't do that" She examining the stick as if to check if I had damaged it.
"Underage magic is forbidden" her voice was soft, but harsh.
"Do another" I demand, if it really wasn't a torch it would shoot things out of it right?
"Orchideous" she pronounced clearly.
A beautiful bouquet sprouted out the end of the stick. I stare at it curiously before reaching out and picking one of the flowers out the end. As I did the flower shrivelled up in my hand leaving it lying there like the leaves in autumn. I couldn't help but clench my hand, the flower carcass giving out a satisfying crunch.
Her smile widened. I had never seen someone so happy with everything. It fit her character though, wild and untamed like a lion or probably more like a bee now that I thought about it.
"Now" she exclaimed, although I was still getting over the shock of what had just accrued.
"I came to pick you up and take you to Diagon Ally" I tilt my head in confusion like a dog, or a lost puppy.
"But I got excited and came early, so you can go back to bed and comeback in the morning." she lifted herself up on her toes and back down again. For some reason I felt this wasn't the end of our conversation.
"Or-" Of course. "I could take you now the shops would be closed but I'm sure you can simply admire the buildings you have grown up in the muggle world after all I don't know a lot about muggles but I have seen the first years look very exited by a simple levitation charm." she hurried out without breath. With my upbringing listening wasn't my forte and it took me second to register all that she had said.
"I'll get some sleep thanks" I say and slam the door closed in panic.
I sprint back up the stairs three at a time and tuck myself in to bed. I would wake up and that weird women would be a vague memory in my dreams.
Except she wasn't.
I had slept until twelve ad nobody had bothered to wake me up. God I needed to sort out my sleeping schedule.
Suddenly the door crashes open reviling a pimped up Armatha, seeing the boyfriend is my guess. Her hair was flowing free a huge Snookie Poof held it up high, and she seemed to have gone orange.
"A gypsy 'as come to take you to Diagonally or somet, if yur ge'ing drugs can I 'ave some?" She asks.
"I'm not getting drugs" I respond shaking my head. "I'm going to a posh school" I smirk proudly. Although I wasn't quite sure if I was going to this Pigwarts place, or if it was posh.
For all I know I might actually be going to pick up drugs. After a quick check, however, I could confirm some of the dead petal was still dug into my fingernail along with some other dirt.
"Arigh' well I don give a fook really just come get rid of this hooligan she's scarin' littleuns" I sigh and wait till she slams the door to get changed. I wear my least ripped shirt, only a small hole in the waist and my best jeans, I wear them to church in the holidays.
When I get downstairs around 10 minuets later Lauran or whatever her name was is sitting on the yellow couch next to a youngen who had snuggled into her side. On the contrary to what Armatha was saying the children had taken quite the liking to her.
As soon as she sees me she stands sending one kid to the floor. She doesn't seem to notice though and instead glides up to me.
Hands on my shoulder and hair more messy then before she rushes out about how we need to get to these shops soon cause they'll be busy or something. I'm not quite sure what she's saying she has a lot more posher accent then I remember.
Her eyes scan the room before landing on the broom cupboard. She drags me into it, for a short women she has a strong grip.
"Steady yourself" she warns. Then I being swirling like nausea times 10, like a steep helter-skelter or when you get to the top of the Ferris wheel and it stops to let someone else on and you are left to listen to the creaking of the metal holding you above the ground.
I shake my head and blink my eyes open, they sting as if I had just looked into the sun for 10 minuets straight. I did that once when I was 4 I wanted glasses because I though they looked cool.
I didn't get glasses.
I take a moment to recompose before taking a look around.
We were in an old Tudor style room cracked and aged. The roof was tall and balcony's overlooked the main room. It seemed to resemble some kind of old timey pub, the kind you see in movies.
3 long tables took up most of the crowded room and not a single seat was free. People of all kinds were sat around holding large pints of alcohol. A few in particular stuck out of the crowd.
One was huge towering above all the others he had grey hair down to his waist and a beard just the same. His forehead was covered in wrinkles saving the rest of his face from them, or maybe they were just behind his beard.
Another was rather small. She had long ears that pointed at the end. On each tip bell earrings hung and every time she nodded her head, quite often I decided, they would jingle around. A few people threw her dirty looks but most looked to have known her for quite a while despite her young appearance.
The last was a boy around my age. He was staring at me intently so I took this time to observe him. He had bleach blond hair, probably not natural, that was slicked back so far he looked practically bald. He has a thin nose that didn't even look that thin because his cheeks were just the same. In fact everything about him suggested vampire.
He had dark blue robes that covered most of his pale skin, which may I add was completely flawless not a blemish in sight (maybe that was a wizard thing) (aren't I meant to be a wizard).
What was most striking about him was his eyes. A pale blue that seemed to change shade at every turn, they had small specks of white in them like clouds in the sky and his pupils kept dilating making it too difficult to see further. I think the main thing that proves his eyes were amazing was the simple fact I was at least 3 metres away from him and yet I could see almost all the detail.
He moved his gave to my eyes and I turn my head on instinct.
I could still feel his on me.
Only now had I realised that Laura had gone missing. Oh no.
I quickly scan the room in search for her, she didn't just leave me did she. I don't think I can navigate this place on my own. Or get back to the orphanage when I need to.
The boy was doing my head in now, eyes still judging. I turn to look up at him and screw may face up in a pathetic manner. He scowls in return his thin lip curling in a distinct manner. For some reason I felt I wouldn't be forgetting that face.
"Here" Lara says to me. She holds out her hand reviling a paper bag with a clear heavy weight in the bottom. I grab it by the top and hold the bottom with my other hand, manly in fear that it would rip and it's contents would ruin my best shoes.
She then starts walking without instruction and I was left to guide myself through the the herd of people, or maybe not people. Eventually we made it through to a back room. It was small but the fading on the hard wood should the amount of time it was used.
Lucy pushed the door open and shoved herself through the narrow exit. I followed behind luckily for me I was thin enough to simply walk through.
Leah however thin had a very plump bottom, it would seem that all the fat she had gained over the years of teaching had gone straight to her bum.
"Right" She turned to look at me and I quickly diverted my eyes from her lower half.
"We are going in" She squealed. I think she was more excited then me.
