Sparks Fly

Sirius, Regulus, Remus’ portrait, Leilani, and the Weasley twins have put together a surprise for Kol.  A test of sorts.  They want to see how much Kol has learned from all the texts he has been reading…more like devouring.  They had chosen one of the smaller sitting rooms on the first floor for the test.

Kol and Lavender enter as Sirius casts the final incantation.  Elijah was sitting in an armchair reading, not bothered by the chaos but quietly observing everything.  Leilani claps her hands, “Alright.  We put something together to see how much you have learned.  Since you don’t have your own magic…Yet, Lavender will be your wand.”  Leilani takes a seat on the sofa and casts a sticking charm.  Each wand wielder takes seats around the room so they are out of the way.  Leilani subtly casts a sticking charm on Elijah so he doesn’t fall out of his chair.

Before Regulus could comment anything Marcel came into the room, “What’s going on?”  Both Lei and Sirius gave a mischievous smile, “Have a seat and see.”  Marcel cautiously sat down in between Sirius and Lei, then he felt a wave of magic come over him with a reassuring nod from Leilani.  “Reading upside down is uplifting,” Regulus states to the confusion of those who don’t know what is going on.

The room starts tilting.

Kol pulls Lavender closer to him and tells her, “Detection spells.  Find the runes.”  She does as he says and six Hexagrams become visible.  One on each wall, the floor, and the ceiling.  The room is now tilting faster, slope steep enough that Lavender casts a sticking charm on them both.  Whatever isn’t fastened to the floor is shifting across the room, books falling from their shelves.  Knick knacks falling from their shelves.  The bigger furniture has been stuck to the floor so as to not cause harm or damage.

Sirius eggs them on, “Come on you two, let’s see what you got.”  Marcel can’t believe his eyes, “If I wasn’t a vampire, I’d be sick by now.”  Sirius leaned over and whispered, “You haven’t seen anything yet.”  Marcel was now worried.  Kol had Lavender rip the Hexagrams out of the walls.  Five were simple containers to move the room in concert, just linking and not much else.  By this point Kol is guiding Lavender’s hand as he neutralizes it with a rune chain.

In unison, Fred and George, “Bad move.”

The room snaps into a violent spiral like a tornado has picked it up.  Kol casts smaller triagonal wards light up on the shoulders, or arms, or backs, and barriers snap around them to shield them from the flying books and debris.  Then throws a shield around himself and Lavender.

“Quick thinking, mate,” The twins are impressed.

Kol continues to guide Lavender’s wand hand as he rewrites the spin into a slow roll and then breaks up the linker so only the walls spin around them while the floor and ceiling are stationary.  Sirius, Leilani, and the twins are applauding loudly while Marcel is trying not to throw up.  Elijah hasn’t moved an inch and is still reading.  Regulus is having a debate with Remus’ portrait about the different techniques in dueling.

Kol concentrates on taking down the Hexagram from the bottom up before he and Lavender walk to the furthest bookshelf and find the gravity ward behind it combined with a barrier.  Kol cancels out the gravity ward and the room finally rights itself.

Everyone but a sickly Marcel is cheering.  “Well done, mate,” Sirius got up to congratulate Kol, “You too, Lavender.  You both work well together.”  Before anyone could say anything else, retching could be heard over a trash can.  It seems vampires can get sick.

As Marcel sat down waiting for his stomach to settle, Leilani, Sirius, and the twins used magic to clean the room back to its natural state.  George handed Marcel a stomach soother potion before he and his brother left the room.  The vampire looked at the vial in question then turned his attention to Sirius, “It’s a stomach soother for the nausea.”  Marcel nods, uncorks the vial, and downs the whole thing in one go, cringing a little at the taste but then feeling much better.  They all left the room then.

Leilani asked Lavender, “How do you think Kol did?”  Lavender was holding her wand between her hands, examining it, “Part way through, it felt like my wand was responding to just him.  However, I still have my wand’s allegiance.  If Kol had his own magic and were to pick up my wand, I don’t think it would resist him.”  “Huh?  We’ll have to sit down with Minnie and Fenrir and figure out what’s happening.  Maybe Kol is closer to having his own magic than he thinks.  He did say he had magic when he was human.  Maybe being around our magic is slowly awakening his magic and it just needs a boost.”

Kol kept silent as the two talked about him.  He already came to the same conclusion as Leilani, now he only needs to figure out what kind of boost is needed.  During the time he has been undaggered and around these wand wielders, he has noticed the subtle change in himself.  A very subtle buzzing under his skin.  It was a familiar feeling from when he was human, he almost forgot what it felt like.  It is only a matter of time before he has his own magic.

Hidden in the depths of one of the older crypts in the Lafayette Cemetery, the spirit of Esther inhabiting a young witch works on a spell to reverse her children’s immortality.  She was in the mindset, “I created these monsters, I can destroy them.”  The 1,000 years Esther spent on the Other Side watching her children has driven her insane.  She feels the only solution is to kill her children and those they have sired.  Esther doesn’t realize destroying vampires will disrupt the balance nature has created after a millennium.

Esther was not alone in her quest to destroy her children.  Sabine, who is actually Celeste DuBois, agreed to align herself with the original witch.  The former lover of Elijah wanted revenge on the originals and this was an opportunity she couldn’t pass up.  Of course, Celeste had a back up plan to deal with the originals.  But first, Celeste will play her part as Sabine and learn about the witches that have associated with the original family of vampires.

All the while, Finn had been lost in thought as he sat with Freya in her coffin.  He was so lost in thought, he didn’t hear Rodolphus sit beside him, “knut for your thoughts?”  Finn heavily sighed, “When my mother handed over my sister to our aunt, I saw no remorse in my mother’s eyes.  Freya was nothing more than a pawn.  In all my existence, I thought I would never see the one person who mattered most to me again.  Having Freya back in my life is almost worth being immortal, but I cannot see myself continuing in this existence.”

Rodolphus thought over what Finn said and responded, “I may not know everything you have been through.  From what I have seen, you desire to keep living but not as a vampire.  The answer to your personal battle may be amongst any one of our libraries.  You only need to ask.”  With that, Rodolphus left Finn to his thoughts.  Thoughts that turned into contemplation and research in the newly placed Potter library.  After several hours, Finn found his answer, now he only needed to consult with his siblings and the wand wielders.

Damon and Niklaus had been secretive the past few days.  They were planning out their first official date with Leilani.  Klaus had made reservations at a fancy restaurant while Damon ordered a beautiful bouquet of flowers.  The three of them have been skating around each other since Damon’s transformation, even though they sleep in the same bed.  Now, they plan to take their relationship to the next level.  Of course, Niklaus, and Damon were teased by their siblings but the two didn’t pay attention.  They wanted this date to be perfect.

Leilani was caught off guard when Lavender, Pansy, Luna, and Hermione dragged her into the suite she was sharing with Damon and Klaus.  They were going to help Lei get ready for her date. Lei remarked after the door was closed, “All we’re missing is Rebekah.”  It was then Lei heard shuffling in her enlarged closet, “Already here, sweetheart.  Your wardrobe needs an upgrade.  None of these dresses will do.”  Rebekah stuck her nose up at Lei’s choice of fashion.  After some more digging, Rebekah found a dress for Leilani that she approved of.

Lei thought to distract herself from her nerves, “So, Luna?  How was your and Stefan’s bonding?”  The girl in question smiled dreamily, “It was wonderful.  Though Stefan was a little uncomfortable around the wildlife.”  Rebekah, ever the event planner, stopped what she was doing and asked, “What bonding?”  Luna kept her smile, “Stefan and I got married two nights ago.”  “Why wasn’t I invited or asked to organize it?” Rebekah was upset.  The other girls laughed, Lavender answered for Luna, “The ritual bonding they chose requires consummation on site.”  Rebekah thought for a moment before laughing, “Oh, that would have been awkward.”

Leilani was shoved into the ensuite to shower, then her hair was done, followed by a little bit of makeup, and finally put on her dress and matching heels.  The dress was a simple emerald green, knee length, with an opened back, and plunging neckline.  Her hair was half up, half down with the ends curled, and a no-makeup look with a deep red lipstick.

Lei was meeting Damon and Klaus in the courtyard of the compound.  The two men were in black suits with matching emerald green ties, and pocket squares.  They both saw her coming down the stairs to the foyer where they were waiting.  She reached Klaus first, “You look breathtaking, love.”  Damon nodded, “Almost want to go back upstairs.”  Lei laughed softly, “After dinner.”  The triad left for their date, leaving Marcel and Elijah in charge for the night.

Arriving at the upscale restaurant that Klaus had reserved for just the three of them.  Inside the private dining room was lined with several beautifully arranged bouquets.  No bouquet was the same, yet somehow the colorful flowers didn’t clash with one another.  Leilani appreciated the beauty of them all, but it was their table’s centerpiece that caught her attention.  “Red Tulips,” Lei whispered.

The two men shared a glance before Damon asked, “Do you know what they mean?”  Leilani nodded her head, “They’re a declaration of love.  A friend of mine taught me the language of flowers.  They’re beautiful.”  She was directed to her seat, Damon pushing it in like a gentleman, making sure she was settled before taking his seat.  The round table is small enough to reach for each other, big enough to not feel crowded.

The dinner was lovely, the food was delicious, and the conversations were easy going.  The three of them were feeling the effects of the wine, left after desert to a hotel suite Klaus reserved for them.  Tonight was going to be unforgettable.

**After Dinner**

Leilani woke mid-morning to Klaus taking a frantic phone call from Marcel.  It seems some of his vampires have rebelled against him and the Original family.  The vampires teamed up with a few witches, and received daylight jewelry just for this purpose.  To overtake and throw out the Original family.

The rebellious vampires were confident they would win, only to be subdued by the originals, Marcel, and the wand wielders.  Marcel had called Klaus to inform him of the shit-show they would arrive back to.  Marcel told Klaus, “The witches are nervous.  They said they felt this enormous energy wave hit the city.  They thought it was our doing, and that’s why they teamed up with the vampires.”  Klaus could only smirk, thinking about what happened the night before, “The witches have every right to be nervous.  We’ll be back soon to clear up this mess.”

Klaus ended the call, Kissed Damon’s bare shoulder, and got up to shower.  The other two were slowly waking up for the day after hearing the phone call.  Damon held Lei a little tighter, “How are you feeling?”  Lei turned to face Damon, “A little sore, but otherwise happy.  Whole.  What about you?”  “I feel good.  Let’s join Klaus in the shower,” Damon held onto Lei and rushed into the ensuite for another round.

If it wasn’t for Marcel’s phone call, you wouldn’t know there was any kind of fight the night before.  All injuries had been healed, and the damage to the compound repaired.  Leilani, Damon, and Klaus walked into the courtyard.  Those present could feel the immense power rolling off the three of them.

“It was you three…Damn, that was a lot of power that hit the city!” Marcel exclaimed from the third floor.  Luna practically floated over to the triad, giving Lei a hug with a knowing look in her eyes but said nothing.  Klaus and Damon were confused but Leilani learned to just roll with it.  She shrugged then joined the others in discussing the events of the night prior.

Esther was not happy.  No, she was desperate.  Her plan to subdue her children and the others failed.  Now she will have to resort to her final plan.  To trap her children, link them all together with the wixen, and kill them all at once.  This has to work.  Esther is running out of options.  The ancestors say there are only a few witches left that haven’t been reaped.

Sabine/Celeste has been caught by Thanatos himself after she tried to body jump into Hermione during the fight with the vampires.  She knew it was a risk but wanted a body with stronger magic.  Celeste was not counting on Thanatos, better known as Death to reap her soul and send her to Hell.  With no way to escape.

All the wixen convened in the main study to discuss a plan.  They were going to go forward with the plans to build their own version of Diagon Alley, hidden away from the greater populace.  Narcissa spoke, “Elijah has been speaking with Rousseau’s owner to buy the bar and renovate.  We could use the bar as a front, as well as an entrance similar to the Leaky Cauldron.”  Two hours were spent detailing the plans before approaching the others.  When everything was laid out, everyone was in agreement.  Now, to think of a name.

AN:  The first part of this chapter was heavily inspired by the story Professor Tommy by Ourliazo on ao3.  Love that story, total chaos.  The fight was minor and not well thought out, that’s why it was barely mentioned.  Next chapter Kol will finally have magic, Freya will wake, and Finn reveals his plans.  Oh yeah, Stefan and Luna are married.
