I'll always know it's you
Fourth year.
Shinichi was 14, when he learned that Kaito Kuroba could make himself invisible. It was already long after midnight and the day before Halloween.
He was sitting in the red bird‘s common room in a comfy chair in front of the warm fire, with a book on his lap, when he heard a sneeze. He looked up, but didn't see anyone in the room. His eyes got flinty.
"Bless you, Kuroba", he said nonchalantly and rubbed over his eyes, as he tried to keep on reading. Somewhere in the room, he heard an amused chuckle.
"Aw. How'd you know it was me just by a sneeze?" Shinichi shut his book and looked up. At first, he didn't see anyone, but he quickly flicked his wand.
"Homenum revelio", he mumbled. Over by the moveable, rice-paper doors, Kuroba's head suddenly became visible. But only his head.
Shinichi wasn't very surprised though. He smirked tiredly, but smug.
"I'll always look through your tricks and charms. I know you too well. Although, I have to say, they get better... An invisibility cloak. I was wondering how you sneaked around these past few weeks, undetected by me and the teachers, who made their rounds. Now I know."
The boy grinned his shark grin.
"You must be really tired if you are praising me, Kudō."
Shinichi yawned.
"You are not wrong", he admitted.
"Then go to bed already... You look really tired and you need your sleep." When Shinichi looked up, a bit surprised at the concerned tone, Kuroba had already vanished again.
"And shouldn't you stay in bed, when you are clearly coming down with something?", he asked bit accusing into the room.
But of course, nobody answered.
Later when he woke up with a sore neck, because he clearly had fallen asleep in the chair, he had a blanket around him and someone had put a bookmark in his book, where he had stopped reading... He couldn‘t help but smile, with a warm, fluttery feeling in his chest.
