Fate's Hands are Crippled
Harry arrived in the bustling street of Rue Montorgueil. The open-air market was filled with people, local and foreign mixed.
He marveled at the beautiful scenery and the smell of freshly cooked food from the shops that waft through the air. With its small pedestrian cobblestone streets, the Montorgueil district showcased a different variety of shops ranging from restaurants to high-end clothing shops.
The weather was a nice mix of a sunny day with clumps of clouds hanging to shield against its rays. It was now odd for Harry to think of the weather without associating it with his guardians.
With the elder wand at hand, he cast a simple point me spell and followed it to where Kawahira might be. It was much easier to search for the man than for a place within a hundred shops. He wasn't that good at reading French either.
The spell brought him to the front of a decently sized café. With a soft pink coloring paired with white. Ivy vines crept upon the structure and gave a naturalistic feel to it. Kawahira was seated on the inside reading a newspaper.
Harry entered the shop and the soft chime of the bell at the entrance alerted his presence. He walked towards Kawahira's table and pulled back the seat in front of the man and sat.
"Good morning. I hoped you didn't wait long", he greeted while making himself comfortable in his chair.
"Not really, you aren't late Harry"
"Have you ordered anything yet?"
"Yes, just a small lemon tart and tea. You can order as well, my treat". They then waved over to the waiter standing near the counter and passed the small menu that the waiter gave to him.
Harry didn't want anything too heavy so he just ordered some french macaron with an ice tea. The waiter took his order and left soon after.
Kawahira placed down the newspaper and from what little french that Harry knew, he was able to discern that the front page was about a new upcoming french auction. Nothing that he was interested in.
"So about the Tri-ni-sette? I already know about Vongola and Mare rings. Those are not within concern and don't really hurt anybody, our focus is finding a way to seal the pacifiers", he said while tapping a finger on the table. A little habit he picked up from Bill whenever they were planning on their jobs.
"Yes, it does get annoying having to constantly find sacrifices for them. They always want the best and are very picky"
Kawahira dismissively waved his hand, like instead of ruining someone's life, he was talking about mild inconveniences.
Harry glared at him but the other man only raised an eyebrow. "Harry, if you get as old as me. Human life turns inconsequential. Things such as guilt and remorse have long faded into a forgotten memory. It is my job to ensure the world's continued existence, no matter the cost", they bitterly added. Eyes dark and shaded formed from the years he'd caused misery and the sheer apathy he had developed for humans.
It's another game of 'the greater good'. Just on a larger scale, the one at stake instead of a country, it's the world's existence. A game that gods play. But we are both not gods, and we will not play this game.
Glinting emerald eyes, when the lighting of the cafe hits the right light, will turn into Avada kedavra.
"So we're finding another way", he smiles.
Kawahira smiles as well in reply. "Yes, yes we are"
Harry raises his hand and offers it to the white-haired man in front of him.
The clock and gears of fate stop. Tension high like a string pulled to its ends.
Kawahira raises his own hand.
Gears crack and the whole realm trembles like an old broken machine winded up again.
Their hands touched each other and a (friendly) shake was exchanged.
The clock shatters before its hands reach its designated time. Glass raked the golden gears that fall into the realm that once strung the whole world like a puppeteer.
"Deal"
"Deal"
Somewhere in the abyss, fate screams and death laughs.
"—so basically, the pacifier needs a constant supply of flames, right? Then we need to create a runic device capable of doing that"
Both he and Kawahira began to discuss just how the pacifiers work. Thankfully, Harry had experienced such devices before during his jobs around the magical world.
Some were lost to time while rare ones were still being used in the magical world. An example of still one being used was the passage to the Magical Community of Egypt. The capital is placed underground, right below and inside the pyramids. Created by a coven of powerful ancient Egyptian warlocks. The beams and arches were created to cycle magic to support the community. The structure needed constant magic to make it work so runes were set in place.
Another was the Bermuda triangle and the sheer amount of magic needed to be put on the three corner pillars to hide the inside from the muggles' eyes. Inside the Bermuda triangle was the Utopia of the sky. Known by many names that muggles like to call in based on their religion and time. The Garden of Eden, Arcadia, Shangri-La...
It was a place that only magical creatures could enter, no humans were allowed. Below it were titans and creatures large enough to match small countries engaged in an eternal battle. It was in Harry's top five most magical places.
All this had in common was the special rune used. Known as the Ouroboros rune. Made to continue the eternal cycle
Luckily for them, Harry is one of the very few people blessed with the ability to understand and make it. It occurred during a job at the Bermuda triangle, Potter luck strikes. They almost died and then gained something in return. The usual.
Kawahira agreed with him and picked up his fork to eat the last bit of the Lemon tart that he ordered. With his left hand still holding on to the cup of tea.
"Indeed. That is why we need to create 7 containers for each. We will start up the Ouroboros runes in each container by injecting a large amount of each flame into it. Then we will allow the rune to do its job to ensure creating more flames to charge the arcobaleno pacifiers", despite Harry briefly explaining the Ouroboros runes, Kawahira was quick to grasp the idea of it.
Harry wrote everything down to make sure that they don't forget about anything. He was currently writing details about just what kind of container they could use when his instincts blared. They warned him that someone was watching him, but was not a threat.
He let his magic spread and feel around the street. That was when he felt three familiar presences brush up against magic.
Harry groaned and banged his head on the table. Kawahira—that knowing sadist—merely laughs at his predicament.
"How did they even—!?", he grumbled under his breath and cursed.
"Oh caro Cielo, you should have expected this. A piece of advice from a former guardian, Guardians will never leave you alone. Get used to it"
Kawahira chuckled before finishing off his tea and elegantly placing it down in favor of picking up his newspaper again.
"You are one sadistic wanker"
"Why yes, you never do fail to mention it"
Harry snorted and turned his direction to the store in front of the cafe. He could feel the presence of his guardians sitting together at one of the tables of the diner watching him and Kawahira through the large glass windows.
He didn't even bother pretending not to notice the little shits and faced right where they were hiding behind another table with a large family, while holding up a bunch of newspapers over their faces.
His guardians aside from Skull didn't even bother to disguise themselves. What the hell.
Harry decides to pull one over his guardians who seem to notice with embarrassment and dread that they have been busted.
Kawahira gave him a thumbs up and coated his mist over the shop where his guardians were hiding and their own, a second later, he apparated behind the three idiots.
"Aren't you guys a little too far from home?"
Viper and Renato impressively kept still while Skull screamed and almost fell out of his chair when he turned to face him if Harry didn't hold the chair in time.
'Skull falls off the chair way too many times back at home, he doesn't need to do it outside too', he thought to himself.
"Ciao Harry, we have been looking for you"
Renato started while flashing him with his trademark smirk and tilting his fedora at him.
"Mou, Harry, you have forgotten your ID and wallet again. Don't make us chase you all over"
Viper pouted while holding out his ID and wallet that he was pretty sure he placed inside his bag before leaving.
He looked at this pair of professional liars and turned his eyes on Skull. He shot the cloud with that disappointed look of a parent who found his kid's failed exam test.
Skull, as expected, crumbled quickly and fest up.
"Okay, we're sorry for sneaking out to follow you! We just wanna see who's your friend"
Both mist and sun snaped their head towards the cloud with murder in their eyes. His youngest guardian's instincts kicked in and he immediately hid behind him
Harry patted the violet locks of his cloud who used him as a shield and tightly grasped the edge of his shirt.
"If you wanted to come so badly, you could have just said so. What are you guys? Children?", he chastised with his hands on his hips.
And he wasn't even kidding. If they said that they wanted to come along then Harry would have brought them. Like would it kill them to ask?
Based on the incredulous look that they gave him, the idea didn't even cross their mind.
He sighed and urged them all to follow him out. But for safety measures, he made sure to separate Skull for a while.
Kawahira waved at them when he brought his guardian to the cafe. They transferred to a larger table where all five of them would fit.
"Hello, Harry's guardians. I'm Kawahira, a good friend of Harry's. It's a pleasure to meet you", the true earthling then shook each of their hands.
Harry rolled his eyes and sat with his legs crossed on the chair. He let Kawahira and his guardians have their 'talk', if that is what they would call it.
Then when Kawahira's flames appeared and were identified as mist flames, Viper actually hissed.
They moved out of their chair and stumped towards him. They then plopped themselves over his lap and continued to sit there.
"You didn't tell us that he was a mist", they furiously whispered in his ear.
He sent an incredulous look back at his Mist and whispered back, "What does it even matter?"
"Everything"
Harry almost reared back from the sheer rabidness in their voice. This was getting out of hand.
"Don't worry, little mist. As tempting as it is, I don't want to replace your position as the mist guardian", Kawahira grinned while he fixed his glasses. Viper tensed and Harry had to groan when the other mist just had to make the situation worse.
"He had his own sky, he's not interested. Plus you're the only mist I'll ever have. Harmony is like marriage and I'm not a cheater Viper", he placated his mist and they did calm down, but they never left his lap.
They continued to talk about the Tri-ni-sette problem along with a little tidbit of suggestions from his guardians.
In the end, after they had all eaten a light lunch, they finished off their planning with a solid conclusion.
Before Harry came along, Kawahira actually had a plan to lure the seven strongest—the I Prescelti Sette—then curse them with the pacifiers after a year or two of probation to familiarize them with the presence of the pacifiers unknowingly.
It was an understatement to say that his guardians were pissed when Kawahira offhandedly mentioned that his three guardians were actually on the list of considered potential arcobalenos. Harry had to douse them in Sky flames to keep them from making a scene.
Nothing like being told that you were about to be almost tricked and cursed into a non-aging toddler for the sake of the world to send them raging.
So this time, Kawahira plans to hold another gathering of the I Prescelti Sette. But instead of making them the holder of the pacifiers, they would instead be chosen to help in sealing the pacifiers. Powerful and large flames with high purity were needed to power the Ouroboros runes that will continue to remake the flames in a cycle to feed the pacifiers.
By choosing seven representatives to do it, they would be able to seal the pacifiers once and for all.
They already had the positions of sky, sun, cloud, and mist. They only needed a storm, lightning, and rain in the mix. Kawahira had assured them that he already had the candidates in his mind and they would not need to help with that search.
When they returned home, Harry finally had a solid plan and his guardians already had a place in their minds for Kawahira's brutal murder. Another three names for the never-ending list of people waiting to have a go at the immortal mist. With Bermuda von Veckenschtein at the top of the list.
It was one of those rare days when Harry was left alone in the house.
Skull was off to a three-day performance at Las Vegas, Renato was doing a hit somewhere in Germany, and Viper was off somewhere doing whatever they were doing.
So he was alone in the house and the lack of noise and life was deafening him. He needed out.
He's been itching to take a flight this couple of days too so it wouldn't be such a bad idea.
Of course, a flaming phoenix trapezing in the sky would have been very noticeable so he would cast a simple disillusionment charm on him when he goes out of a nice flight on a sunny day.
Harry just saw a movie with Skull and Renato last night about a character flinging a dart on the world map and picking the place it landed to visit.
He liked that scene and had wanted to replicate it. So he took out a large parchment and drew his vague impression of the world map. If you had traveled the world as much as Harry had, knowing the countries and their locations becomes second nature.
He stuck it over the wall with a sticking charm and transfigured one of the sofa pillows into a dart.
With his eyes closed, Harry raised his hand and threw the dart over the map.
When he opened his eyes again, he saw that the little red dart landed somewhere in China.
Looks like he'll be having a nice peaceful flight in the China skies today.
