the moon and the room
I stopped James a second before he left the common room. “I need the cloak.” I said.
“Why?”
“Does it matter?”
“It’s in my room, I have to go to detention for you know.” He shrugged. Our parents sent him back a letter saying while he was doing a nice thing for a friend, he shouldn’t do it in the middle of the night. They sent me a letter telling me to thank James for keeping me out of trouble. How they knew I was there too, I’ll never know. They’re just that good. I thanked and hugged him then ran to his room.
I decided that I would show my friends the room of requirement. I decided against showing the boys because I wanted something that we could have. Unfortunately it was after hours so I needed the cloak. In two years this would be my first time using the cloak and it felt odd. I have to get past the awkward conversation that this cloak exists so there’s that to look forward to.
I walked straight in to the boys room but paused when I saw Remus and Sirius sitting: Sirius in a chair and Remus on his bed.
“Holy.. boys. I am so sorry I didn’t think anyone was here, I just saw James leave.” I explained, I felt my face go red and hot.
“S’alright, moony and I were just talking books.” Sirius said.
“Moony?” I asked.
“Remus’s new nickname.”
“After the moon?”
“I think it’s funny.” Remus shrugged. I took a moment to think about it. The moon is what makes Remus turn into a wolf which is painful and sort of ruined his life. But then looking at Remus he definitely looked like a Moony.
“It fits you a weird amount.” I decided.
“I know right like look at him.” Sirius stood up and put his arm around me in a brother like fashion. I looked to Remus and just scrunched my face and nodded. “la lune est un garçon et il est juste là” Sirius told me and smiled.
“plus comme le moony est un garçon et tu as raison le nom est parfait” I replied and Sirius smirked.
“Anyone wanna tell me what’s going on?” Remus asked us.
“Not really.” I grinned at the boy.
“So what brings you here girl Potter?” Sirius asked.
“Girl potter?” Remus questioned before I could.
“What? I like the nickname thing.” Sirius shrugged, I moved his arm from around me.
“Well Girl-Potter is a horrid nickname. Anyways, I’m here for the cloak.” The boys didn’t speak, they looked like they were pondering life. I realized that since I’ve never used it, they never thought about me using it. I walked over to James trunk and opened it, low and behold there it was right on top.
“What are you using the cloak for?” Remus asked.
“Going somewhere after hours.” I shrugged and grabbed it.
“Why haven’t you used it before HP?” Sirius asked. I turned to look at him and gave him a strange look. Why was he obsessed with nicknames all of the sudden. “It’s your initals! Hazel Potter, Hp!” Sirius smiled like he was the cleverest one around.
“Wouldn’t I be HEP then? For Euphemia?”
“Yes! HEP! No, Heppy, like happy!” Sirius smiled, I wondered if his brain wasn’t working or something.
“What would you be then?” Remus started, “Sob?” Remus and I laughed.
“Of course not don’t be ridiculous.” Sirius threw himself back on the chair.
“I will see you boys later.” I rolled my eyes playfully and crossed the room to the door.
“Bye heppy!”
“Bye sob.” I left the room and moved to the girls dorm.
****
The four of us walked through the fifth floor under the cloak. The cloak was big enough to fit all of us with room to spare. Either the cloak was big or we were small. I think it was both.
“This is how the boys pull off their pranks isn’t it?” Lily asked.
“Yep.”
“I can’t believe you never told us!” Marlene nudged me. “We could’ve done so many things!”
“We could’ve stopped the boys from pranks if we just stole the cloak!” Lily realized.
“Oh please I would never want to stop the pranks against the Slytherins.” Mary smiled.
“We can’t steal the cloak anyways, it’s mine and James to share.”
“But you never use it.” Mary reminded me.
When we got to Violetta’s painting I removed the cloak from myself to face her. She looked surprised at my sudden entrance.
“Are there any teachers or filch around?” I asked, she shook her head. “Thank you.” I smiled.
“Thank you for sharing my room.” She said.
I walked on more and my friends took off the cloak.
“How do you know her?” Lily asked.
“She’s my friend.” I shrugged and gave no other explanation. We stopped at the blank wall, Mary started to walk down the corridor to the right, I stopped her.
“Now what?” Marlene asked.
“We make a wish and enter it.”
“But.. there’s nothing here..” Lily trailed off. I sighed realizing that they needed a demonstration.
“I wish we had a cozy room with a radio and lots of pillows and blankets.” I smiled. Instantly the wall reshaped into a door. My friends’ jaws
dropped. I opened the door to find the room exactly as I wished it. We entered and I closed the door behind us.
“This is amazing!” Lily gasped.
“I wish there was a kitchen with popcorn!” Marlene’s eyes grew wide. The room shifted to have a fully functional kitchen on one of the walls. Popcorn even appeared on the counter.
“Holy secret room this is amazing!” She ran to the popcorn and shoved her face.
“Let’s show the boys!” Mary started for the door but I grabbed her arm.
“This is our secret. Our room of requirement not for the boys!” I warned her.
“Yes, we need something the marauders can’t pillage!” Lily agreed unsurprisingly.
“I’m all for not telling boys.” Marlene said with a mouthful of popcorn.
“Fine.. fine… I wish for a guitar and for you to play something haze!” Mary said as a guitar appeared by me. “Sirius told me when you wrote songs together when we worked on our potion.”
I grabbed the guitar and started playing a Spanish lullaby I knew. It was about a women who drowned her kids then haunted the river and cries. She was called La Llorona. I don’t remember when I learned this song but it was an easy enough melody. I hoped the secret room was soundproof.
