Printed History
Lily brought the four of us to the library to complete our assignments. She picked a table all the way in the back for us to work.
“Look Lil, not that I don’t love a change of scenery..” I started nicely.
“But why exactly are we here?” Marlene asked not as nicely. Lily sighed.
“Because every time we study in the common room the boys come and ruin our peace!” Lily exhaled three months of anger.
“I like when they come mess with us.” Mary smiled, Marlene rolled her eyes.
“We know.” Marlene sat down and took out her parchment. Mary shut up and sat next to her. Lily and I sat next to each other on the other side of the table.
After I completed my history and defense against the dark arts essay I needed a break, luckily I saw my good friend Remus on the other side of the library.
“I’ll be right back.” I told my friends as I got up. They followed my gaze to see Remus.
“Oh my goodness Hazel! Do you fancy Remus?!” Mary whispered and giggled. Her face glowed and she immediately dropped all of her work.
“What? No of course not! I just don’t want to do my assignments.” I said defensively. I definitely didn’t fancy Remus. He was a great friend but I didn’t feel that way about him. Mary just had boys on the brain. Mary giggled some more and I left to see Remus. Maybe I was imagining it but Lily looked hurt when I left. When I looked back she was back to writing.
I walked up to Remus.
“I’m surprised the Marauders know this place existed.” I smiled. I still hadn’t told him I knew he was a werewolf, nor did I find anything to help his transition. Remus laughed at my joke.
“Oh I doubt Sirius and James have ever been here.” He smiled. Remus was so refreshing to be around, he didn’t assume you fancied someone just because you liked to be around them.
“Looking for anything in particular?“ I asked.
“What do you know about wizard arranged marriages?” Remus asked, immediately I knew what he was talking about. I sighed.
“I know that Sirius’s first option was to marry me instead but his mum hates my family so that wouldn’t work.” I explained.
“His first solution wasn’t not to get married at all?” He asked. He sounded too perplexed to know much about the house of black. They were so powerful it would be easier to find loopholes instead of just disobeying.
“How much do you know about the Black family?” I asked.
“Just what Sirius has told us.” He shrugged.
“So not much then.” I looked at him. “Come on.” I started walking to a different section of the library, to the news section. “You can’t be one of the most famous wizard family’s to not be written about. Here.” I pointed out the B section. There was an entire book shelf dedicated to the Black family. I knew my family was written about too.
“So this has… everything about them?” Remus asked with both curiosity and awe.
“Everything that’s public at least, that family has so many secrets.” I sighed. “But this is what the wizarding world knows about them.” I smiled.
“Wow thanks Hazel, now I can help Sirius.” He opened up the first case of newspapers.
“Maybe you can find a solution by Christmas, I’d love to see his reaction.” I said. Sirius and Remus were staying over at our house for the break. We have to leave later than everyone else because of the full moon. At least, that’s what James told me.
“Hopefully.” Remus sighed, I excused myself and made my way back to my friends.
“How was your date?” Mary smiled wider than ever.
“It wasn’t a date!” I persisted.
“Fine fine.” Mary kept her grin, I don’t think she would ever believe me. Lily sighed, was she hurt? I had no idea.
“Can we get back to work now?” Lily asked.
“Please!” Marlene practically banged her head on the table. And the four of us started to work again.
