A Friend Meeting
“Does anyone want to tell me what’s going on today?” I asked my friends the second we walked out of the potions classroom.
“What do you mean?” Lily asked
“Oh maybe the fact that you blew up Snapes potion!” I whisper shouted.
“That was you? Sirius told me it was Remus who did it.” Mary looked around as if she just realized something was different about today.
“Of course you believed him.” Marlene rolled her eyes.
“What does that mean?” Mary shot at Marlene.
“I’m just saying that if he told you to go swim with the giant squid you would in a heartbeat!” Marlene fired back.
“What is going on with you?” Lily asked.
“With us? Why aren’t we celebrating you’ve finally noticed Snape is an evil prick!” Mary took her anger at Lily.
“He’s not a prick, he’s just just..” Lily started.
“A bloody creep.” Marlene finished.
“Alright everyone shut up!” I yelled. My head was spinning, too much was happening at one time and I couldn’t focus. I didn’t even notice I was fiddling with my necklace until they had all gone quiet. I immediately stopped. “We need a friend meeting.” I decided.
“A friend meeting?” Marlene questioned me, as if us yelling at each other wasn’t a good enough reason to have a meeting.
“Obviously something happened during holiday and now everyone is at everyone’s throats. So how about we act maturely and meet in our room in 20 minutes and yell at each other there. I think we all just need a little cool down moment.” I didn’t know I could sound so orderly and Mcgonagal like. But here I was directing and commanding like I was the Queen.
“That’s fair.” Lily decided as Mary and Marlene muttered in agreement. The four of us went our separate ways back to the tower as a small break. I tried to find my brother and friends but I had no luck so instead I went the longest way to the tower as possible. I took many different stair cases and walked aimlessly around the corridors. It was nice being along I decided. I thought about finding my dads secret room but i didn’t have enough time to do that, I would have to look later.
Some of the corridors had students, some didn’t. Some corridors had painting to talk too while others were bare. I wondered if the paintings ever got bored around here, if someone wasn’t walking in their corridor all they had were the paintings next to them. I couldn’t imagine spending eternity with the same people.
In one of the corridors with paintings it was completely empty expect for me and two first years. I couldn’t exactly see their faces because they were huddled together but I saw that one had dark curly hair and the other had blond straw hair that looked like he would be bald by thirty. As they passed me the dark haired one dropped his quill, I picked it up.
“Oi!” I called “you dropped this!” The two turned around and I saw who it really was: Regulas Black. The young Greek God. I stared at him and held out his quill. He looked at me with both disgust and annoyance. His friend snatched the quill right out of my hand. It was a miracle that no feathers came off.
“Thanks.” Regulas said shortly then the two turned and walked away.
“You’re.. welcome I guess.” I sighed in defeat. I had no idea how he could be related to Sirius, they were so different.
“I wouldn’t spend too much time dwelling on that one, dear.” A painting spoke to me, I turned to see it was an older women in a medieval gown and headdress.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Very hostile that one is, but very lonely. We see him walk around this corridor all alone most nights.” She explained like she felt sorry for him. I started to aswell.
“What about the kid he was with, aren’t they friends?”
“More like peers.” She shrugged.
“That’s horrible. Maybe if Sirius knew his brother was having such a rotten time, he would forgive him.” I wondered aloud. I would’ve liked to chat more but the grandfather clock rung. I looked at the time to see I only had about two minutes left to get back to my friends. “It was lovely meeting you but I really have to get back to my friends. I’ll come back again I promise!” I smiled then ran back to the tower. I had been on the fifth floor, when did I get to the fifth floor?
I ran as fast as I could and was only a few minutes late, my friends were already in our dorm sitting on their beds.
“I was beginning to think you wouldn’t show.” Lily said when I walked in.
“I got distracted, long story.” I breathed, I was not used to running so fast for so long. “Now who would like to start?” I asked after I caught my breath. No body spoke for some time. Everyone looked down or found something to fiddle with.
“I can.” Lily spoke after a while. “I’m not agreeing with you lot to say that Severus is evil or anything it’s just.. it’s just that he can be very prick like. Yesterday I was looking through our potions book wondering what’s we cover this year and he was all like ‘oh that one’s super easy.’ Or ‘I could that one in my sleep!’ He was just acting like a big know-it-all so I got mad. I told him that all year we were tied for best in class, it’s not like it was that big of a brag. He started saying things like ‘you were only good because we were partners. Because of me, you were good at potions!’ It was so frustrating. I made the explosives last week when he was saying similar things. I learned about it in the slug club. So today when he started picking on Remus I used them. But Severus is still my friend so watch how you speak of him.”
We were all quiet for a bit. I never knew what they do in the slug club. Only Lily was invited and the rest of us didn’t mind, we weren’t fans of potions. But I had no idea they could make bombs in them. We all remained quiet not knowing what to say. We couldn’t exactly say mean things about Snape because Lily would yell at us.
“I’m sorry Lil. Snape was wrong when he said those things, you’re the real potions master.” Marlene smiled, Mary and I agreed.
“Yeah, for starters we’d all be lost without your homework.” Mary said.
“Not to mention the epic show today, Snape definitely deserved his potion being exploded!” I added. Lily smiled at us.
“Thanks guys.” She looked happier. I knew eventually she would go back to being Snapes friend but it was fun having her hate him for now.
“Now, you two want to explain what’s going on?” I looked at Mary and Marlene who were sitting far apart but moved closer as Lily was talking.
“I.. I suppose I have been talking about Sirius quite a bit.” Mary confessed.
“A bit? You practically stressed for a week when you found out Sirius was staying with Hazel!” Marlene teased.
“I can assure you Mary that Sirius is like my brother so that’s not a thing.” I laughed and Mary did too.
“I’m sorry guess he’s just so cute and funny and wickedly smart. Like today in potions, he is so much smarter than he lets on. But I will try to talk about him less.” She said.
“Good.” Lily nodded.
“Oh thank the lord!” Marlene looked at the ceiling and gave it a thumbs up, we all laughed.
“A friend meeting was a great idea Hazel.” Lily concluded.
“Oh thanks, I was just making things up as I went along.” I confessed and we laughed again.
“Well you did great!” Marlene cheered. “Now what shall we do?” She asked me. The three of them all looked to me for the next idea. Normally I would’ve started stressing about coming up with the perfect thing but with them, I didn’t feel stressed.
“Anyone got any water balloons?” I asked.
