Family Game Night
Two weeks before summer ended, my father brought home more games than I could count. It was Sirius’s last day with us before he had to go home, so we had to have some fun.
“Family game night?” Sirius asked, I supposed he wasn’t used to the idea.
“It’s where your family plays games together.” James teased.
“Merlin’s beard I never would’ve guessed that.” Sirius said sarcastically. “You really choose to spend a whole night together? If my family did that we’d end up at a funeral.” He shrugged.
“My family doesn’t get along anymore either not after Philomena upset our grandparents.” Peter sighed. After Philomena graduated she experimented with the muggle world, Peter’s family didn’t exactly approve of her love for muggles lately.
“Has she gotten a job yet?” I asked, Peter looked at me like I asked a forbidden questions.
“Last I heard she was doing muggle interviews, she won’t tell us nothing!” He complained.
“Who cares is she’s with muggles, it’s better than a ministry job.” Sirius shot out. James and I knew it was time to change the subject.
“I hope we’ll get to charades!” James announced getting his friends attention.
“What’s that?” Sirius asked.
“It’s where you’re given a card of what to act out then everyone else has to guess what it is. Mum says when we’re older we can transfigure objects into the real thing!” I explained.
“But you must be legal to do so.” My mum walked into the living room where we were, my dad was right behind her. He took his wand and dimmed all the lights until a spotlight was on him. He summoned all the games to circle and spin around him.
“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls! Welcome all to a Potter family game night!” He laughed and set the games in a pile by the couch. James and I laughed while rolling our eyes playfully, Peter clapped for my dads announcement, Sirius watched in awe.
“Now the rules are simple, this is a competition so please taunt, tease, laugh, and smile as much as possible! You may win, you may lose but you will leave here having a fun that’s a promise!” My dad had walked over to us by now. I could see he was having a hard time not break character and laugh.
“Can we play charades first?!” James asked, my mum went and grabbed the game. My father used to magic to lift up James.
“Alright son, you’re team captain. Do you go with friends or do you play to win? Are you compelled to go with family or will you simply choose boys for the win? Clock is ticking!” He spoke like a coach would on a quidditch team, James was just laughing.
“I’ll take Sirius and Peter as my team!” James laughed and my father set him down.
“Rookie mistake! Hazel is the best champion out there, with her we’re sure to win!” My mum smiled and I joined my parents team. Peter and James were laughed, Sirius stayed frozen in place watching this all go down.
“We’ll go first!” I cheered and got a card. My parents sat on the couch, James team sat on the floor across from us. I read my card: muggles. I thought for a second before starting
“Ready?” I asked, my parents nodded.
I moved my had as if I was doing a spell then I made an x with my arms. I was trying to say no magic, my parents started guessing spells. I pointed to Sirius and started dancing, Sirius had brought his famous record player and we played songs every now and then.
“Music!” My mum said
“Inventions?” My dad said. I moved my arms to insinuate he had the right idea.
“Muggle inventions? Muggles muggles!”
“Yes!” My team cheered.
“Ok ok our turn!” James said and grabbed a card. He started laughing then put his card back. “Ok ok” he laughed between words, I was curious to what he would start doing. He put his hands to his head with all his fingers spread out. He then moved his hands out.
“Head fireworks?” Peter asked which caused James to laugh even more. He continued to do his hand thing then he went down on all fours and walked around.
“Animal? Forest fireworks?” Peter was guessing. Sirius just sat there confused.
James continued to do his weird hand thing while on the floor then walked around, maybe he was trying to a moose? A deer?
Peter was still guessing things with fireworks in the name.
“Time!” My dad cheered.
“Come on mate! It was a stag!” James expressed, immediately Sirius started laughing.
“How were we supposed to get that?” He asked him, Peter was laughing too.
“All you did was this!” Peter mimicked the hand thing James was doing.
“That’s the antlers!” James laughed.
“Have you ever seen a picture of a stag?” I started laughing “they don’t look like this!” I also mimicked the hand thing.
“Ok ok fine! Next round!” James gave up, still laughing.
