war and stuff
January had ended and February had begun. More classwork, homework, exams, more charms to memorize, and my life has pretty much been taken over by school. I found myself studying with the marauders in the common room. Let me rephrase: I was studying in the common room and the marauders were there too. I had no idea where my friends were but I didn’t mind the company. Sirius was losing wizard chess to Peter, James was commenting on it, and remus was sitting on the opposite end from me on the couch. Remus did the wand head scratch thing again but this time I had my Latin book.
Lectiuncula, was the first word. Lectun in Spanish meant reading, I imagined it couldn’t be that much different in Latin. I searched up cula and found that it meant little. So far I had reading little. That didn’t make sense. I tried the second word: magna. I found that it meant great which also didn’t make sense. The spell Remus used was reading little great. The little and great had to cancel each other out so all I was left with was reading. Maybe I didn’t understand Remus’s mumble.
Remus used the spell on his head which didn’t seem safe at all but I digress. He used it on his head and before we did any assignments, he was using it to read. Could remus not read? I thought about severus bullying Remus for not being able to. I decided that if Remus could read or not, it wasn’t any of my business. I closed my Latin book and started back on my homework.
“And suddenly Sirius has half the remaining pieces as Peter! He’s only moves away from finally losing the match!” James announced, Peter laughed.
“Shut up potter, I can still do this.” Sirius said, I looked over the board, Sirius was definitely going to lose.
“He can’t still do this.” I said to remus, who looked up and laughed.
“And suddenly everyone’s a chess expert.” Sirius complained.
“Hazels the one who taught me how to play” Peter shrugged, “I think she knows.”
“You taught him!?” Sirius whipped his head to look at me.
“We were tired of playing quidditch so I taught them chess. My father taught me.” I grinned at him.
“So James why aren’t you as good then?” Remus asked and the boys laughed.
“I have other things to worry about, like quidditch. I’d rather be good at that then chess.” He said smugly.
“Have you all finished your work or are you simply choosing not to do it?” I asked, I had so many things to do and here they were just having a good time.
“I’m doing it later, trying to see how late I can do it while still getting full marks.” Sirius explained, somehow I could see him writing his papers two minutes before class and still get full marks. He was annoying that way.
“I’ve did all I could, I’ll finish the rest later.” Peter said. James nodded as if to say something similar. I looked at remus.
“Can you believe them?” I teased.
“I just make sure they don’t copy my work.” He smiled.
“Rude!” Sirius tossed a chess piece at Remus, who ducked then threw a pillow back at Sirius. All four boys smiled and suddenly there was a full on war going on in the common room. Remus and I ducked behind the couches in order to stay safe.
“You got any extra parchment?” He asked me. Together we crumpled the paper into balls and made our own weapons. Once we had a sufficient amount we stood up and began throwing them at the three boys. Once we were out, we picked up any supplies we found and just threw them. We only stopped when we heard someone yell.
“What are you doing?!” Lily screamed after she had walked in. All of us stopped.
“Winning.” I said and threw something at James, I didn’t even look to see what it was. James looked both shocked and impressed. Lily rolled her eyes.
“Honestly haze, I expect this immaturity from the boys but come on! We need to talk!” She grabbed my arm and starting pulling me to our dormitory. “And you four clean this up!” She yelled and the boys started cleaning. I could tell what she was doing. She was removing me from the mess so I a) didn’t get caught and b) didn’t have to clean it. Well done Lily.
When we got to the dormitory the two of us burst out laughing.
“My savior!” I cheered and hugged her, she was laughing.
“I’m surprised you were on a team with Remus,” she said “isn’t he in like a gang or something?”
“What? Who told you that?”
“James and Sirius told Mary.” She stated.
“Well it’s not true, Remus is very nice. Besides we just beat the magic out of them!” I cheered.
“Good! Sirius and James could use that!” She laughed
