Mcgonagal
About everyone in the class was agitated. Sirius complained to Mcgonagal of a sore throat, remus looked guilty whenever he did, James just looked confused on the lesson and why his friends were acting this way, and the four of us were practicing our lines.
We needed to convince Mcgonagal we had a good reason for wanting the answer to how muggle repelling works. I had no idea why the marauders were so worked up, all I know is we were silent for most of the class. Mcgonagal looked concerned by our new found quiet attitudes but she kept on with the lesson.
I felt like we were all watching the clock to make sure we knew exactly when lessons were over.
When class was dismissed everyone was leaving except the four of us, we stayed sitting as if the lesson was still going. James nudged me.
“Hey you coming?” He asked “we’re getting lunch in the great hall” he gestured to his friends.
“In a minute” I said “we wanted to clarify something from the homework, you’re welcome to stay if-“ James shook his head and was out of that classroom faster than before. I tried to hide my smile.
“Miss Potter, Miss Evans, Miss Macdonald, Miss McKinnon, I am thrilled you value your study’s but I must ask why you are still here.” Professor Mcgonagal looked at us. Lily cleared her throat.
“Professor, there are spells to prevent muggles from entering Hogwarts right?” Lily asked trying to sound concerned. The whole plan was to make her believe we were unsure of the spells use.
“That is correct Miss Evans” the professor looked at us skeptically
“What spell is that exactly?” Mary asked, I feared she was a little too forward. Mcgonagal looked like she was onto us. Luckily Marlene saved the day.
“When I play Quidditch next year I want my mum to come watch the games. I fear the spell would stop her”
“Yes and if I was every injured, would either of my parents be allowed in?” Lily added on. Mcgonagal shifted from suspicion to an understanding.
“The charm repello muggletum can be lifted for such events” Mcgonagal explained
“The charm, is it lifted for the whole school or just where the muggles go? For example the quidditch field, would the whole schools spell be lifted or just the field?” I asked
“The whole schools spell is lifted” she explained. I could feel the hopelessness wash over us. There was no way we could remove the spell from the entire school.
“Thank you professor” Lily said and we walked out of the classroom. We had failed, we couldn’t get the radio to start and we all knew it. We walked slowly to the great hall, none of us seemed to be hungry. Lily went to go find Severus, Mary and Marlene went to the common room, I joined my brother in the great hall.
“Where are your friends?” James asked when I sat down.
“Weren’t hungry” I said. Sirius perked up on my arrival
“Where’s evans? She with her creep of a boyfriend?”
“Why do you care black? Are you jealous or something?” I shot back. I noticed him flinch a little when I said his last name. It wasn’t noticeable unless you were really starting at him, which I happened to be. I also noticed James did look jealous. Now that I see James was always starring at Lily. Did he like her?
“Of course not but I do love how the bird messes with your dear brother!” He smiled and James shoved him.
“Shut up” he muttered. I looked at Peter and he was laughing, Remus rolled his eyes at the idea of it.
“I am sorry Remus, about what Severus says to you and about you. Im not sure why Lily is his friend, none of us are” I looked at him. It took him a while to realize I was talking to him. He looked confused on why I was being so kind to him. After a moment of confusion he just shrugged.
“S’alright” he said then went back to his meal. James was right, Remus really wasn’t a good conversationalist. I turned back to James and Sirius.
“So my dear brother, when did you start crushing on my friend?” I asked and Sirius started laughing and nudging James, who turned bright red and looked around to make sure no one else was here.
“Hazel! Can’t you speak quieter!” He looked embarrassed which I felt bad for, but it was also really funny.
