Severus sat in the owlery as planned, he wasn't sure why he agreed to this but he did. Now he regrets it completely, he was nervous, extremely nervous. He wanted nothing more but to die tho he was certain Lily would simply bring him back to life and scold him.
So instead he was pacing back in forth while picking at his hands nervously awaiting Mary's arrival. Lily was currently somewhere outside near the owlery inorder to insure no one interrupted them especially the marauders.
"Merlin...I can't believe I agreed to this...." Severus muttered to himself. He continued to question why he was here until he heard the door to the owlery open. He froze in his place 'Please don't let it be Mary, please don't let it be Mary' He thought to himself.
"Um Severus..."
'Shit'
He turned around and came face to face with Mary MacDonald. 'Don't faint, Don't faint, Don't faint, Don't faint' He thought to himself as he gripped at his robes nervously. "Uh..h-hi" He said nervously, he really felt like fainting right now.
Mary smiled at him shyly "Hi, so um" She held her hands behind her back anxiously as her cheeks turned slightly red "Did you uh-" She let out a nervous cough "Did you get my letter?" She asked in a timid voice as she looked down timidly.
Severus nodded but then he cursed himself internally 'She's not looking at you so she can't see you nod you idiot' he thought and bit the inside of his cheek. He took in a deep breath "I um I did...get your letter and I read it too...." He said hoping he didn't sound nervous.
Mary looked up at him and smiled at him shyly again "That's great, so um what did you think?" She asked hopefully. After what felt like forever but was about 5 minutes of silence Mary frowned. 'He doesn't like me, god why would he.....' She thought.
She felt an awful ache in her heart and she wanted to cry but she willed herself not to atleast not in front of her crush. She shifted in her place awkwardly "I uh- I think- I think I'll go now...." She spoked quietly and made a move to leave.
Severus was completely freaking out inside. He didn't know what to say, he didn't know what to do, and now his actions are ruining everything. His mind raced with many thoughts 'No, no, no, no, no' He felt his heart race pick up and his throat began to feel constricted.
Mary turned around feeling her heart break but before she was able to take a step forward towards the door she heard a noise. Severus panicked not wanting her to leave and his body went on autopilot. He closed his eyes and whistled a soft tune. Mary stopped in her place 'Did he just whistle?' She thought and turned to him in confusion.
Tho once she turned she was greeted with an odd sight. "Uh..." She wasn't sure what to say not when Severus had his head hung low and especially when he had snowy white owl with eyes as dark as his resting on his shoulder holding what looked to be a....she stepped closer 'Is that a tulip?' She thought.
The owl flapped her wings and leaned a bit towards Mary in an effort to get her to take the flower. Mary took a step back a bit startled by the owl's actions. This seemed to annoy the owl and she flapped her wings again gesturing to the flower she held with her beak.
It took Mary awhile to realize that the owl wanted her to take the flower. She stepped closer a bit cautiously and slowly took the flower from the lovely owl. The owl beamed and settled herself against Severus's head. Mary couldn't help but giggle at the sight. Severus simply stayed staring at the ground afraid to look at her.
Mary looked at the tulip in her hand and noticed a piece of paper tied around the tulip's stem. She untied it and removed the piece of paper and noticed some writing on it. She held the paper open so that it wouldn't roll in on itself and read what it had written on it. And once she did she felt her face heat up completely and her heart felt like it was going to burst.
Why? Because there written on this small scrap of paper in Severus's neat handwriting were words she longed for.

Mary looked up towards Severus a giant smile plastered on her face. The snowy owl nipped gently at Severus in order to get to him to look up. After a while she eventually began to peck at Severus which caused him yelp. "Alright, Alright, knock it off!" He swatted at his owl, who quickly flew away before she got get hit by her owner.
Severus watched her fly away and mumble under his breath. He sighed softly and forced himself to look back at Mary, tho once he did Mary had thrown herself onto him engulfing him into a tight hug.
He yelped in surprise and stumbled back which then resulted in him falling down to the ground on his back along with Mary. She laughed as they fell, once they hit the ground she lifted herself up off him a bit and smiled.
"So you like me too?" She asked happily. Severus simply nodded he felt out of breath from the fall. Mary beamed happily and took hold of Severus's hands and hoisted him up along with her.
Severus began to wondered if Mary was strong or if he simply weighed nothing due to his lack of eating but all thoughts disappeared the minute Mary lips connected with his own. He felt his whole body freeze again, after a second or two Mary took a step back and giggled.
"So I'll see ya this Saturday at the three broomsticks at 8?" She asked happily.
Severus was still to stunned to speak, and he was certain his whole face was completely red. He nodded in response unsure how to speak at the moment. "Perfect" Mary said and kissed his cheek "See ya then Severus" She added as she happily skipped her way out of the owlery.
Severus simply stayed frozen in place even as Lily made her way inside and towards him. "Well I'm guessing all went well right? Are you guys going on a date?" She asked as she looked towards the door she just came through.
"Uh-huh" was all Severus said before fainting. This resulted in Lily letting out a panicked yell "Severus!" She rushed over to her friend who was currently unconscious with a small smile on his face.
~Time skip~
In the hospital wing
Severus jolts awake "OH GOD! I HAVE A DATE!"
"AHHHHHH!!!!" Lily screamed, having been startled at his sudden announcement and awakening.
Madam Pomfrey sighed softly and went to retrieve a potion to help get rid of pain seeing that the loud smack she heard might be an indication that someone may need it.
