Chapter 3

“What are we?” Vivian asked as she rushed into the shared lab. She has been thinking about it for months now. Did these late night talks, soft touches, kisses mean anything to Aurora like they meant to her? Cause to Vivian they meant the world, but what if to Aurora they meant nothing?

Aurora was taken aback by this question not only because it wasn’t what she was expecting, but because Vivian was meant to be out at a party for her friend's latest project getting funding. “I thought you were meant to be at the (Last name) party?” Aurora noted that Vivian looked stressed. Slightly out of breath like she had run from the other side of town straight to the lab.

“Yes, I was there but then i started thinking…,” Vivian trailed off. She was still trying to catch her breath. She wasn’t sure how to explain her thoughts. This wasn’t a normal problem for Vivian, she always knew what she wanted to say and how to say it for others to understand. But right now all Vivian could think about was if Aurora hated her. If she wanted the same things she wanted. If she loved her the same she did.

“Breath love,” Aurora said in a hushed tone, standing up and walking over to Vivian. She wasn’t sure what Vivian was asking but she needed to make sure that she didn’t pass out from lack of oxygen before anything else happened.

Oh that beautiful accent Vivian thought as Aurora slowly walked over to her. How she could listen to that voice all day and no matter what she was saying she would listen.

Aurora took Vivian’s hand into her own, giving it a feather light kiss before bringing it to her chest. “Breath with me,” Aurora said softly. She took a deep breath making a point of puffing her chest out. Holding it for a second before letting it out deflating her chest as much as she could. She repeated this till she could tell that Vivian’s breathing had slightly evened out. Letting go of her hand and taking a step back. As much as Aurora didn’t want to, she knew for this conversion they were going to have to be some space between each other.

Vivian looked at Aurora searching for something in her eyes, she herself wasn’t even sure what she was looking for. “What are we?” Vivian asked again this time with more breath in her lungs, and a slightly clearer head.

Aurora only liked answering questions when she knew the correct answer, but this one she wasn’t sure what Vivian wanted. “I’m..” Aurora took a deep breath before finishing, “I’m in love with you,” She said it so quietly that if Vivian wasn’t holding her breath she might have missed it.

“Oh” Vivian said as her mouth fell open slightly. Aurora wasn’t looking at her anymore. Instead she was staring at her desk on the other side of the room. Right she had probably been doing something before Vivian had barged in, she thought.

“Yeah, oh,” Aurora sounded scared, Vivian thought.

“Oh, I love you as well Aurora. Oh so very much that words can’t describe how much I love you,” Vivian spoke so fast she wasn’t sure if it all made sense, but god did she believe every word she said. Before Vivian could say anymore though Aurora had already crossed the small space between them and taken Vivian into a kiss.

As they broke apart Vivian thought she could get used to that. “Now that you're here could you look over this prototype?” Aurora asked as she dashed over to her desk picking up said prototype. Vivian, still in a daze, just walked over and started inspecting the perfectly crafted prototype.
