Minerva McGonagall was strolling through the halls of Hogwarts during her lunch break, walking back to her classroom from the cafeteria. She couldn't help but overhear two young girls, a Gryffindor and a Hufflepuff, who were standing in the corner, talking quietly. One of them asked: "Do you listen to girl in red?" the Gryffindor responded: "Hell yeah, do you?", to which the Hufflepuff shyly replied: "Yes, me too. Bold as they are, the red-tied girl grabbed the other's hand and asked: "Do you want to go on a date with me?".
McGonagall stopped in her track, wanting to hear the response, but since the students had noticed her looking at them, they turned to her and asked: "Can we help you, Professor McGonagall?"
Minerva blushed and looked for a reasonable excuse for her interruption. "I-umm.", then she let her curiosity get the best of her: "I couldn't help but overhear and I wanted to ask you, what girl in pink-" "Red" "girl in red means?"
The Hufflepuff went pale, while the Gryffindor explained: "Well, it's a modern muggle thing. When you ask "Do you listen to girl in red?", that means: "Are you a lesbian?""
Minerva nodded impressedly, while the girl with the yellow tie blurted out: "Please don'ttake away house points because we are gay. You can punish us in other ways, please don't let our housemates suffer because of us!"
With furrowed eyebrows, Minerva admitted: "I would never punish someone for living out their sexuality! Especially not during pride month! Did you seriously think I'm homophobic?"
Ignoring the last question, the Gryffindor interjected: "Wait a minute, you know what pride month is?"
The professor nodded, saying: "After all, I do "listen to girl in red"". She winked at the mind-blown students.
She rounded the corner and accidentally ran into Madame Pomfrey, who stopped the animagus to ask about the encounter. "Minnie, what were you saying just then? What is this "girl in red" thing?"
Minerva laughed and said: "It's a synonym the kids are using nowadays to ask if someone's a lesbian"
"You are gay?" Poppy let out a surprised gasp.
"Yes, that's what I just said" came a sassy response.
"My god, why didn't you tell me that any earlier?" the healer looked a bit mad.
McGonagall replied: "It wasn't exactly a secret, you just never asked."
Poppy rolled her eyes before explaining herself: "Well, if I had known any earlier, I would have asked you out on a date years ago!"
"Wait- you're gay too?" Minerva's hands dropped from where she had crossed them across her chest.
"Obviously I am, Minnie! My god, did you not notice at all when we were still at Hogwarts? Or when I tried to swoon you with flowers and stuff once you've started your teaching position here?" came an angry reply.
Minerva looked confused, if not a bit ashamed of herself: "Yeah, alright, alright. I might have overlooked a few signs. But do you still wanna go on that date with me, Poppy? Because I actually like you to..."
Madame Pomfrey nodded and with a softer tone said: "Yes, I would very much like that. You wanna meet in the Three Broomsticks this Saturday?"
Minerva blushed and nodded gleefully: "Yes, 7pm?" - Poppy nodded - "I'm looking forward to it."
