Back to the past

It hadn't taken long for Ginny and Harry to figure out that Teddy had traveled back in time. But it took them at least a week to convince Hermione to give them her time turner so they could find their godson. Hermione had been more than sympathetic and offered to help but she was reluctant to hand over the time piece to just anyone, even if they were her best friends. Harry understood that, seeing as it was likely to accidentally end up in the wrong hands but in the end, he managed t convince her to give him the time turner.

Then began the process of figuring out which year Teddy had gone back to. They knew it had something to do with the Marauders, and Regulus, but the exact day, month, and year was hard to tell.

Meanwhile, Teddy was still trying to keep his identity a secret from Sirius, Remus and Peter. James was less secretive about it but even he never outright hinted towards the true identity of the mysterious boy. Not surprisingly, the second person to figure it out was Lily for much the same reason as James; the uncanny resemblance between thirteen-year-old Remus and Teddy.

"Why is he here!? Do you have any idea how this could mess up the entire timeline?" Lily whisper-shouted. Her and James had gone into a closed room a few minutes prior and now Teddy was standing outside the door, eavesdropping while they argued.

"I didn't mean to point out the obvious, but I think that's the whole reason he is here. He wants to change time to save someone in the future" James responded. Lily put a hand on her head, she could not believe this. The fact that a newly turned teenager had the courage, and lack of brains, to travel to the past just to keep someone from dying was completely beyond her. She had no doubt that Teddy was a very smart kid, his plan and being there was enough to prove that, but he was being a fool.

"We have to send him back. He can't stay here James; I mean come on! What are we supposed to tell Dumbledore or Mcgonagall? Oh hey, a kid time traveled here from thirty years in the future to save someone from dying and we didn't try to stop it? Have you lost your senses completely? He has to go, and you're going to tell him" Lily made up her mind. She would not willingly harbor a kid from the future knowing what that meant.

"Now?" James wondered.

"Yes now! Go" Lily nodded, going to open the door. Teddy ran off, going back to the parlor where Sirius, Remus and Peter were playing a game of exploding snaps.

"Teddy, can we talk to you?" James motioned for the boy to follow him. Teddy slowly got up, and followed the couple outside. James took a seat on one of the lawn chairs and Lily didn't hesitate to take a seat beside him, putting her legs over his. Teddy awkwardly claimed a chair across from them.

"I know what this is about" He said before anything else could be put into the open. James and Lily looked surprised.

"You do?" Lily wondered, unbelieving.

"I do. You want me to leave. I get that, it's dangerous for me to be here especially with you guys. I'll leave, don't worry but I'm not going back yet. I still have things to do and you can't stop me" Teddy declared.

"Honey, you have to go back. I know you've heard it already but reversing a death that has taken place, no matter who it is, is a dangerous thing to do. It has severe consequences, on you, your family and the people around you. Please just go back to your own time and live your life. There is no sense trying to save those who are already lost" Lily leaned forward, putting a hand over one of Teddy's smaller hands.

"You don't understand! Everyone is going to die if I don't do this. Everyone. I just have to stop one death and everything is fixed" Teddy stood up, angry. Lily did the same, but she remained calm.

"I'm sorry" She said, pulling out her wand. Teddy noticed and drew his wand too, pointing it at her. James got to his feet; the sight of anyone, even a thirteen year old kid, pointing a wand at his girlfriend was unsettling.

"Put it down" James said calmly.

"Not unless she does" Teddy argued. James turned to Lily.

"Lily, put the wand down. You don't want to hurt him" James was panicking inside but he didn't show it. Lily's eyes flicked over to him before going back to focus on Teddy. She didn't lower her wand, instead keeping it pointed at the kid.

"I'm not going to hurt him. I am going to make him tell us what time he is from; I am going to wipe his memory of everything that happened here and I am going to send him back where he belongs. It won't hurt him at all, dear. I promise" Lily explained. Teddy couldn't let that happen so with a wave of his wand, he disappeared in a flash of light, leaving nothing but ruffled grass and a few char marks behind. Lily dropped her wand in shock. That was some deep magic, too deep for a child. It didn't look like he had apparated, and Teddy was not able to floo or use a portkey since neither things necessary for that was nearby.

"Where did he go?" James looked around, confused. Lily looked the other way but there really was no sign of the boy.

"I don't know. What did that look like to you? It wasn't the floo or portkey, and it didn't look like apparating" Lily pointed out.

"No, it wasn't. I have no idea what it was though, maybe some old form of transportation that isn't taught until later in the future?" James suggested.

"Maybe" Lily shrugged. There was really no sign of Teddy so the couple went back inside, breaking the news to their friends that the boy was gone and they didn't know where he went. Sirius at first demanded that they send out a search party but he was placated with the fact that the search would be too wide and no one knew if he had maybe traveled in time again. It was quiet for a few days, until yet another flash of light interrupted a peaceful evening. Thinking that maybe Teddy was back, the group which consisted of the Marauders, Lily, and Marlene, and Dorcas were there too, jumped to their feet. Instead of a little blue haired boy, there was a man standing there with black hair, round glasses, a lightning shaped scar on his forehead and a time turner in his hand. Beside him was a red head woman, with her wand drawn. She was holding tightly to the man's arm.

"Oh Merlin, Teddy what have you done?" The man stared wide eyed at James and Lily. There was something strange about him that no one not even Remus could quite figure out but it was poking fun at them for some reason.

"You know Teddy?" Sirius pushed his way forward, giving the two strangers a once over to see if they were harmless.

"Yes we know Teddy! We're his godparents" The woman nodded. James' eyes widened this time and he looked at Lily. He knew now why the man in front of them looked so familiar.

"Your Harry?" James guessed, just to make sure. Harry nodded, one hand going back to grab Ginny's arm.

"Yes, do you know where Teddy is?" Harry questioned.

"He was here but there was a small argument and he disappeared. My guess is, he used the time turner he had again" Lily explained.

"Do you have any idea at all where he might have gone?" Harry wondered, desperately. He needed to find Teddy, whether he hugged the boy or gave him a smack over the head after that was undecided but he just wanted to find his godson first. Lily went to answer before James cut her off.

"Regulus" He whispered. Sirius heard him though and was confused what any of this had to do with his brother. His dead brother.

"What?" Sirius looked at his best mate. James started figuring it out. He knew exactly what Teddy had been planning.

"I might know. Sirius, do you remember the exact date and place that Regulus...?" James trailed off. Even after a long time, he could not say it.

"The Inferi cave. January 1, 1979. Why?" Sirius answered.

"That's what he was after. If Regulus lived, then the Horcrux got destroyed and we would believe him about...." James suddenly looked at Peter, who had slowly backed away.

"Oh" James realized. Peter turned and began to run but Remus picked up that something was wrong and caught their little friend.

"Can someone please explain what is happening?!" Lily demanded. James had everyone sit down and he explained.

"Regulus came to me and Sirius a while before his death and said that Peter was a death eater. We didn't believe him, for obvious reasons, so he must have gone to the cave to gain our trust so we would believe him. He died there but if Teddy went to the cave and stopped him from dying, then we would believe him and it would change everything" James explained.

"Change what?" Sirius wondered, still confused. Harry stepped in.

"Your deaths. It make sense now. It all started with Regulus, because he died, Peter became your Secret Keeper and he betrayed you. If that never happened then you live, I grow up, Teddy is born and has parents. It would change everything" Harry figured it out.

"But what happens then? You two get a happy ending but who dies as the price for that?" Lily looked around the room.

"I don't know" Harry admitted. He knew then what had to happen. He had to find Teddy and stop him from going on.

"I really would want to have my parents growing up but I know that can never happen. My past has made me who I am and no matter how hard it was, I wouldn't change it for a thing" Harry looked at James and Lily.

"We understand. But just out of curiosity, when are you supposed to be born?" James put an arm around Lily. She lowered her head to hide a smile.

"I think you need to ask mum that" Harry grinned. Ginny took his arm, they had a son to find.

"We'll see some of you in the future. Oh and Remus, when you have Teddy, don't let your condition decide how you act around him. Your a great dad no matter what" Harry warned.

"Teddy was your son!?" Sirius shrieked, right as Harry and Ginny disappeared. James laughed, revealing that he had known. Remus looked just as shocked at the piece of news. None of them had expected that. And now there was just the matter of Peter and what to do with him.
