“Your beacon is dead, join us or die.”
Melody had stood there in the battle of Hogwarts, she was there, with the other students, near the back, when Voldemort announced that Harry Potter, the boy who lived, was dead.
It was all over.
And all hell and chaos broke loose.
Some students ran to Voldemort, desperate to survive and hoping he would accept them like he promised. Others, like Melody, did the opposite. They fled, screaming, running in the opposite direction as fast as they could. They didn’t believe Voldemort would accept them, and they weren’t ready to die today.
When the children ran, death eaters rushed to follow them, and to capture the revolting students. Melody could hear them shouting binding spells as she leaped over and weaved around rubble. She ran as fast as she could, eyes wide with terror and determination. She was a half blood, she was ‘impure’, and she was part of what they were trying to destroy.
But her whole life she had preserved herself, her whole life she had fought to stay alive. And by god, there was no way she was going down today.
A girl running near her was caught by a blast, her arms and legs snapped together, gluing to her sides as her whole body fell mid-step. Melody gritted her teeth, they were getting closer.
“Petrificus Totalus!”
Melody leaped off a sharp slanted slab sticking out of the ground, and the beam caught her right in the back, she fell to the ground, her cheeks scraping on stone as her body contracted and constricted, leaving her immobile, but still aware.
So she was aware when somebody pulled her up by her ragged shirt and began to levitate her body, she was aware when she and the other students were placed in a cart and apparatus to a spot in the woods, and they stayed there for a while. And all Melody could do was stare at someone back, aware they were in a forest, but other than that, had no idea where she was.
Eventually, a death eater came back to the cart and levitated the students bodies out of the wagon, and only then could Melody see their destination, and her eyes widened at the sight.
A huge, rotting, black wooden manor lay in the middle of the forest, and that’s where they were being taken to. They were levitated under a doorway then dropped, like pieces of cargo, on a cold floor near a wall. Once again, from her low position, Melody couldn’t see anything but the bottom of a person's robes dragging on the floor.
“Tag them, let’s see what these deceivers are.”
She recognized the hissing voice, her eyes went large with terror and if she could move, she would have squeaked in surprise.
Lord Voldemort!
“Three pure bloods, two mud bloods, and a half blood.” A death eater declared.
“Hmm.” The lord said in his low, wispy voice.
“What should we do with these disgusting deceivers, tell me my dear death eaters.” He said slowly.
“Ooooh, look at this one!” A woman’s voice exclaimed cheerfully.
A hand grabbed Melodys face forcefully, squeezing her cheeks and lifting her chin up. A woman was standing over her, smiling wickedly. Dark eyes and wild, curly black hair, her skin was pale and perfect, her sharp outlines and high cheekbones illuminated perfectly.
She was the most beautiful woman that Melody had ever seen.
“It’s so tiny and quite pwetty, awwww, look how scared it is! It’s so adorable!” The woman said, she spoke as if Melody was a pet or a baby.
“That’s the half blood.” The death eater who had brought them in informed her.
“Oooh, and it’s not even that filthy! What a pwetty little thing you are, your so perfwect, such a cute little baby.” She said, squeezing her cheeks harder and shaking Melodys head slightly before dropping her, letting her head thud on the ground as she straightened up.
“I want it!” She declared to the dark lord.
Want it? Did she mean…
Did she mean Melody!?
“Bellatrix my dear, you have always been so loyal to me. Take the half blood, and do with it as you please. Consider it a gift for all your obedience.”
Melodys heart just about stopped.
She was being gifted away, to a deranged death eater!
She had heard of Bellatrix before, Bellatrix Lestrange. She was the one who had tried to kill Ginny, who had carved the words ‘mudblood filth’ into Hermione Grangers arm. What was she going to do to Melody!?
Once again, Bellatrix grabbed Melodys chin and yanked her up, holding her there as she leaned down close,
“You're coming home with mommy Bellatrix.” She grinned.
Melody was doomed.
