Fuck the plan, just kiss Remus
So now it had all come down to this. It was nine o´clock and Sirius was standing in front of the table in the middle of the flying pitch. He was fretting with his hands.
“Are my hands starting to sweat?” he thought to himself. “Ugh, gross.”
Everything was perfect. There wasn´t any reason at all to think something would go wrong. The charmed instruments were playing a soft and soothing music. James would serve the food the muggle way. The flowers weren´t light up already but they still looked beautiful being touched by the soft moonlight. The air was fresh but no enough to be cold. Bless Lily Evans and her brilliant weather charm.
Sirius, thanks to Reggie’s advice had dress up really fancy. He was even more dressed up than when the pair went to Hogsmeade a few days ago. He had put on the outfit Mr. and Mrs. Potter had gifted him for Christmas, which consisted on a black high-waisted trousers and a black shirt that was see trough at the nipple level, with a ruffle on his neck; and the best part – in Sirius´s opinion- were the see through puffy sleeves with lace on the wrists. He had put on some eyeliner and his favorite moon earring.
“Okay, Reggie says they are on their way.” informed James looking at a piece of parchment, he and Regulus had charmed so what one wrote would appear to the other one. They often used it on class, since they didn´t share any of them.
“Perfect. Great.”
“Everything´s going to turn out great mate. Don´t worry.”
“No, I know. Is just…” Sirius made a long pause. “I can believe I´m actually dating Moony.”
James smiled fondly. He rearranged Sirius shirt collar a bit and patted him on the shoulder.
“Oh Morgana! There they are.” Said Sirius. His heart was raising as he watched his brother accompany the tall figure of Remus Lupin through the arch of the flying pitch.
It seemed the walk was eternal. But as soon as they were close enough they could make out their faces, Sirius knew he was simply gone. Remus was looking at him on an odd way. Not the weird looks he had threw him on Hogsmeade, when he didn´t knew they weren´t on a date. He was looking at Sirius him no other persons had looked at him. With pure joy and adoration.
Remus, who had been chatting with Regulus, to distract his mind, shut his mouth. His eyes could only focus on anything else that wasn´t Sirius. Sirius felt as if this moment, when his heart was swelling on his chest, would go down on history. Because how couldn´t it? With Remus looking at him as if he were the shiniest star, not on the sky but on the earth.
“You look beautiful.” Remus said holding eye contact.
It was a low tone and three simple words. But it was the way Remus had said it. The way he had inhaled as if struggling to bring air to his lungs that sent Sirius over the rabbit whole.
“Hi.” Corrected Remus. Embarrassed that the very first thing to come out of his mouth had been a praise.
“Hiya Moons.” Responded Sirius. “You look stunning.”
He added, even though Remus hadn´t taken his cloak yet. Remus laughed softly, tilting his head a bit and Sirius couldn´t help but smile.
Regulus groaned.
“Shhh. You are ruining the moment, love” James whispered.
“I believe we all are ruining the moment, Mr. Potter.” Said Professor McGonagall.
The four boy gave a light jump.
“Professor! When did you ---“
“Now, I shall return in an hour. I believe that´s plenty of time for you two to dine. Then we´ll return to the dormitories.”
“You asked for permission?” Remus beamed at Sirius.
Sirius tried to hide his blush looking away.
“I wanted it to be perfect.” He said not quite meeting Remus eyes.
“Pads…”
Remus didn´t finished the sentence but it was so charged Sirius knew he was thanking him. This meant they didn´t had to sneak around. Because Sirius didn´t want to sneak around, not with Remus.
Professor McGonagall cleared her throat.
“Mr. Black,” she said addressing Regulus. “Shall I walk you to your common room?”
Regulus nodded and walk over to kiss James.
“Bye Potter. I´ll see you tomorrow.” He said, running a hand affectionately through the other boy's hair.
“Bye, love. I love you!” shouted James as Regulus and Professor McGonagall started making their way out of the pitch. “Bye Minnie I love you too!”
McGonagall threw him a stern look over her shoulder. And Regulus shook his hair.
“I love you Reggie!” shouted James again.
Regulus was far away, but not so far for his sight not to be audible. He knew if he didn´t screamed back James would continue screaming.
“I love you James!”
And James light up the whole night scenery.
“Well gentlemen,” said James turning to address his friends. “My name is James Potter and I´ll be your waiter for tonight.” He said in an awfully posh accent. “Shall I take your cloak Mr. Lupin?”
Remus looked at Sirius, who just shrugged as if playfully saying “he is your friend too.”
“Sure, thanks Jamie.”
With one swift motion Remus took off his cloak.
“Fucking hell, Moony! You look fine as hell!” Said James with Remus´s cloak on his hands.
Remus, indeed, looked “fine as hell”. Moony was wearing high-waisted baby blue pants. His shirt, it shone as if it were made of blue glitter and was unbuttoned so much that Sirius could see Remus's fine scar. The one that started a little below her sternum and crossed his chest. As if that were not enough, he had rolled up his sleeves revealing his forearms, also full of scars accumulated over the years. On his wrist, clashing with all his handsome-farmer-boy-dressed-up look, rested a fine gold bracelet that Sirius had given him on his last birthday. A bracelet that had two charms: a moon and a star. But the thing that was ultimately making Sirius melt down to the ground were the fucking white suspenders.
Moony was wearing fucking suspenders. And he looked hot as fuck while wearing them. Remus looked like a rock star. “Moony is so cool.” Sirius thought to himself.
Sirius wanted to cry. He wanted to cry because he couldn´t bear how beautiful Remus looked. He wanted to cry because there they were. Standing in front of each other and Remus was letting Sirius see more scars than the raven haired boy had seen in all these years of friendship. He wanted to cry because right now he was the happiest person who ever walked this earth.
“Sirius say something to Remus” James whispered, giving him a light push.
Sirius stood straighter and tilt his chin a bit up so he could look at Remus in the eye.
“I have never seen anything more beautiful in my entire life.”
James gaped.
Remus blush insanely and he took a step closer to Sirius. He towered him. Carefully his hand went to cup Sirius´s face. Oh, how bad Sirius wanted to be kiss by his Moony.
“Well… I´ll be back with dinner.” Said James, and the other two boys took a step back.
“Moony, after you.” Said Sirius pulling out Remus´s chair. The taller boy laughed but he was willing to go along with Padfoot.
“Why, thank you Pads, that´s very gentleman-ish of you.”
Even if they saw each other every morning all sleepy and messy haired, Remus also liked this other side.
Once they were sat, James appeared with not only the food but two flower crowns.
“Bone appetite lovers.” Said James putting in front of them some mashed potatoes and a steak in a very elegant presentation.
“What´s that?” Remus asked tilting his head towards the crowns.
“Oh, James made them for us to wear I think. It is too much isn´t it?” Sirius said looking kind of nervous.
“I think they are a nice touch.” Answered James. He and Sirius had spent fucking hours trying to tide flowers together until Reg had reminded them of the orchideous charm.
“We don´t have to wear them, Moons.”
Remus knew Sirius wanted to wear them.
“I would absolutely love to wear them, Pads.”
Sirius jumped out of his seat so abruptly that he hit the table causing the crowns to fall to the floor. “Sorry.” He said picking them up.
He stepped closer to Remus.
“Just… I´m a little nervous over here.” Sirius blurted out before he was able to stop himself.
He put the crown over Remus´s head blushing.
“Hey, Pads.” Remus called, taking in his hands Sirius´s delicate wrists. “I´m nervous too.”
Sirius sighted with relieve.
“But” Remus started as he took the other crown out of Sirius´s hand. “The bright side is that I really like you already. And, we already went on a date and we survive.”
“You didn´t even knew it was a date!”
“And I´m sure, for the years to come, you are never going to let me live that one down.” Remus planted a kiss on Sirius forehead, just below the flower crown.
Sirius barked a laugh. “I will definitely won’t.”
“Okay, this is nice.” Thought Sirius as he took his seat once more. “We are talking. This is easy. Just keep talking”
“Just for the record I really like you too.” Said Sirius. His heart seemed to want to escape from his chest as he said back the words. And so he kept talking in hopes the pounding would slow down. “And that´s really saying something because I think I been with thousands of students---“
Remus had an arched brow, he looked suddenly very unimpressed.
“Er, no. Like two… just other people…”
“Fuck me.” Sirius thought. “Make it right. Make it right.”
“What I´m saying Moony is that… you are different.” Continued Sirius as he squirmed in his seat. “And not only because you are a werewolf—“
“Excuse me?” asked Remus frowning.
“Fuck me.” Sirius said this time out loud.
Moony stood up.
“No, no, no, Moony. Let me begin again.”
Sirius put his hand on the table and put his full weight on his arm, trying to look as nonchalant as possible. It was to be expected that the table turned completely and the food – as well as Sirius - fell on the floor.
“Godrics!” Sirius screamed. “MOONY!” he screamed even louder, scrambling to his feet.
Remus was just standing there in shock. He had never seen Sirius this frantic.
“Merde! This is a disaster.” Remus knew Sirius only switched to French when he was really distressed. “Oh comme je suis stupide. The food.” He lamented.
“Pads.” Remus called. He was met with watering grey eyes. “Dance with me.”
“Huh?”
Remus hugged Sirius. They weren't really dancing. Remus was swinging them gently, humming softly in Sirius ear. The flowers light up and despite the food and the table and the misinterpretation, everything was suddenly alright.
“You know the first time I realized I loved you was after you found out I was a werewolf back on second year. I was crying my hearts out because I thought you´d kick me out for sure. And I still remember watching the brightest smile on your face through my watery eyes. And you said to me “Mate why are you crying, that´s the coolest thing I´ve ever heard.” Said Remus as he planted gentle kisses on Sirius hair, while swaying them both. “And then I was angry at you.” Remus felt Sirius shake softly with laughter. “I thought you didn´t understood anything but then you walk up to me at the library and said “I need you to talk me about your lycanthropy because I can´t find anything in these bloody books and I really want to help.” And that´s the moment I knew I was done. Gone.”
Sirius pulled away a little to look Remus in the eyes.
“You said the moment you realized you loved me… do you love me?”
“Is too much for the first date, innit?” smiled Remus scratching the back of his neck and ducking slightly his head.
“I think we are passed that.” Said Sirius smiling. “
Remus huffed a little chuckle.
“You don´t have to be nervous, Pads. This, all this, is beautiful. And you are amazing Sirius.”
“Remus, I love you too, you know?“
“Guys what the fuck?!” said James running over as well as he could with two plates of sticky toffee pudding . “What happened to the table…? Pads the food!”
Sirius turned around to face James, however Remus didn´t let go. He was hugging him from behind.
“I think we aren´t the only ones that are nervous.” Teased Remus, resting his chin in Sirius shoulder with an amused smile. “S´okay Prongs, nothing a simple spell won´t fix.”
And with a swish of his wand the table was back to its place along with the decoration.
“What?” said Remus looking at Sirius, who had an adoring look on his face. “Don´t look at me like that. You know that spell as well.”
“You are brilliant Moony.” He whispered in amazement.
“We´ll you can it that now.” Said James with a wary look on his face. “You´ll just have to enjoy dessert lads.”
James changed the plates and gave them a thumbs up before heading back to wherever the hell he was spying the date from.
“Dessert?” offered Sirius, still in-between Remus´s arms.
“Just if you promise you won´t flip the table this time.”
“Oi!” Sirius complained.
And Remus remembered they were now dating. So he could finally said what was on his mind.
“You shouldn't be allow to look so damn cute when you pout.”
“I don´t pout.” Sirius look thoughtful for a moment. “So you think I´m cute?”
“I thought that was already stablished. But don´t let it get to your head, Pads, or I will invite James to dine. At least he won´t flip the table.”
Remus snorted at his own joke. He was never going to let Sirius live that down.
“Please stop.” Groaned Sirius.
“Never.” Declared Remus.
They stared at each other. The dessert was awaiting for them at the table and Sirius was really hungry. He was about to complain about it when something shift on Remus gaze.
“Sirius…” he said. Charged with everything words couldn´t reach. And Sirius knew. He knew this was the moment. And he knew Remus also knew.
Sirius closed his eyes. He could feel Remus leaning in, the heat of his body.
His heart began to beat faster, he felt the "thud thud thud" vibrate inside him. And in his stomach there was an emptiness similar to the one he had before a Quidditch match. All his senses and his thoughts were filled by one thing: Remus Lupin.
The joy and love he felt clear. Pure. Simple. Everything with Remus always felt easy. Sirius knew that he really loved him. It could not, in any universe, be otherwise.
And suddenly, he felt the other boy’s soft lips. However, Remus´s lips weren´t touching Sirius´s. Nope, Remus lips were on Sirius nose.
Both boys opened his eyes at the same time. And Sirius watched a bunch of emotions go through Remus´s face. But he scrutinized Sirius´s face and he laughed. He laughed so hard, Sirius was sure the whole castle would hear him. The taller boy had to bend over, holding his stomach. His eyes were filling with tears of amusement.
Sirius open his mouth. And in that moment he realized…
He, in his excitement, had turned into Padfoot.
He change back quickly, with the most embarrassed look he had ever sported on his face. His ears where burning and he knew he was as red as a field pixie.
“Oh good Merlin, Remus I´m so sorry.” He started, this only made Remus laugh harder. “I promise this was a good-nervous kind of thing, is just that I ---“
Remus lips came clashing with his mouth. Sirius couldn´t finished whatever he was going to say because he eagerly kissed Moony back. They smile thought the kiss. They chuckled a bit. And then soft lips were immersed on a slow and sweet dance.
When they peeled off of each other Remus sighted in contempt. He let his hand brush a strand of hair behind Sirius´s ear.
“You really are something else.” Said Remus, half amused half smitten.
“I´ve been known to be too much.” Said cockily Sirius.
“I don´t think I could ever get enough of you.” Responded Remus resting his forehead against Sirius´s.
“Seriously?! You guys haven´t moved an inch since I left, and you haven´t touched the dessert. Honestly.” Complained James, who had just arrived.
“Sorry Jamie, on it.” Apologized Sirius as he dragged Remus to the table. This time they didn´t sit on the opposite side. Sirius dragged Remus chair and they ate dessert between soft laughs, complicit comments and stolen kisses.
.
And hour latter McGonagall was arriving to the flying pitch to escort the three boys back. Sirius and Remus were telling everything to James and by extension to their professor.
“Professor, I thought you said we could stay out till ten. It´s eleven o´clock.” Said James, when the chimes of the patio clock rang.
“Well, since Mr. Black was having such a difficult time I decided to cut him some slack. Not that I have to explain myself to you, Mr. Potter.”
Sirius stopped on his tracks.
“Please! I was really nervous okay?” complained Sirius. “Wait. Professor, how do YOU know I was having a hard time?”
McGonagall just waved her hand dismissively.
“Where you spying on us professor?” inquired Remus with a mischievous smile.
“I most certainly wasn´t Mr. Lupin.”
“Aw, you old softie Minnie.” Said Sirius.
“You could have just stay and spied with me Minnie, I had a better view for sure.” Said James.
“Mr. Potter I wasn´t doing such thing.”
“I knew you were rooting for us, Minnie.” Said Remus with a smug smile.
“Off you go the three of you. Directly to your beds, no detours.” She warned.
“Oh, Sirius isn´t going to be able to make it to his bed tonight, Minnie.”
“Mr. Lupin!” she said scandalized.
Sirius and James gaped at him in awe.
“What? I just want to cuddle with him.” The he gave a loud fake gasp. “Oh! Minnie you thought I was implying—“
“That´s all for today boys.” Professor McGonagall interrupted. Then with a softer tone she added. “Mr. Lupin, Mr. Black, I´m really happy for both of you.”
Silence.
McGonagall sighted.
“I´m also happy for you and young Mr. Black, Mr. Potter.”
“Thanks Minnie.”
And with that James trotted happily inside the portrait hole.
Once they were on their dorms, the bed curtains had been drawn and everything was quiet Remus poked Sirius lightly.
“Humph?” answered half asleep the raven haired boy.
“I had fun today.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes, thanks for planning everything. No one had ever done something like that.”
“Mmmm.” Said Sirius giving Remus a lazy kiss. “You deserve it Moons.”
“Would it be too soon to ask what are you doing next Friday?”
“Really?” Sirius propping himself up on his elbow.
“Yes but I´m planning it this time.”
“Hey!”
“Just to make sure the table---“
“Moony!”
“I´m kidding, darling, but I do want to make something for you.”
“For us.” Corrected Sirius closing his eyes.
“Yeah for us.” Smiled happily Remus, while staring down at the sleepy boy in his arms.
“Call me darling again.” Demanded Sirius, eyes still closed.
And Remus did.
He whispered sweet nothings until they both drifted asleep.
