Evan's pov:
They still technically had nothing. Initials don’t exactly give them limited leads making their job so much harder than it had to be. Its like they’re chasing a ghost, a haunting never over, a spectre in the lighting that fades out when you reach for it.
The point is they’re stuck. It was a good call from Pandora but they’re still as far away from finding anything as they were when they started.
Evan repeatedly found himself obsessing over the same names yet he still found himself with nothing. It was like a loophole; He’d find something, he’d get excited, he’d get stuck, he found nothing.
He just wants something. Anything that could mean something.
That’s why Evan and Pandora found themselves going through the area of The Carty Juniors most recent attack. It was a party to celebrate the most famous and prestige of families. Pandora and Evan would’ve both been invited if they hadn’t left their families. James was invited but refused to go as Sirius wasn’t, and besides, the whole point of the party was to celebrate being rich, pure and alive, it was completely pointless to be celebrating anything of the sort but that’s what happens when your families are obsessed with legacy; James’ great grandparents, Sirius’ parents, Evans father, Pandora’s cousins. They’d all have been there if given the chance.
Evan got a hold of the invite list whilst Pandora went through the security footage, they’d connect name to face to get an idea of who may be a possible suspect. They tried so hard not to crack at the mention of some names, such as:
“Cygnus Black?” Evans asks
“Present” Pandora replied
“Druella Black?”
“present”
“All the Blacks?”
“Narcissa, her husband and kid, Bellatrix and her husband, yes”
“Walburga? Orion?”
“...no”
“They were invited. Ok, Regulus?” Evan tried so hard to ignore the pain that name pushed through his system.
“he’s a no show”
“He’s ticked off, he showed up. Check again”
“Evan...He’s not there”
Other times, they’d say a name and try to ignore the affect it had or the meaning behind it:
“Bartemius Crouch Senior?”
“No”
“He’s ticked off”
“Strange”
They ended up finding out that a lot of people were to be at the party but less people were actually seen.
Regulus Black, Bartemius Crouch, Dorcas Meadowes, Enid Pettigrew, Arnidd Avery, Penelope Fowley.
All names invited and arrived, none of which were seen on camera. This gives them a reason to believe they may have something. In all fairness, it was stupid on their part but easy on Evans part.
They possibly had something that wasn’t exactly nothing.
Pandora saved the footage to her hard drive to look over later. It can be proved to be useful. They search the entire building, bottom to top, inside to outside, for anything that can be helpful to the case. Nothing they found was evidently useful. Nothing to suggest a murder had taken place only a few mere hours ago.
They returned to the body left behind of which belonged to Antonin Dolohov, a man obsessed with power and his own name, hence why he was at the party. Made perfect sense honestly.
It was possible he was targeted, like his death was planned, or maybe he fell victim to Russian roulette. They took the weapon used as well as his phone for evidence. Pandora would look through his phone to find anything that could put him as a suspect to murder.
Maybe it was planned.
Dolohov had a plan with a small group of friends to attack two red headed twins, Fabian and Gideon Prewett who were also present at the party (but for completely different reasons than their soon to be attackers).
The names associated with the attack were as followed:
Severus Snape (who wasn’t on the invite list, his families not exactly liked by the other families present so he wasn’t invited to avoid conflict. Clearly that was useless), Arnidd Avery (Still not on the cameras), Vincent Wilkes and Myers Mulciber.
They just kept finding more names, now how many of these names would lead somewhere, only time can tell.
The weapon, a knife emblazoned with diamond snakes wrapping around the handle, was taken by Sirius who had an instant interest in it, Pandora helped him search for fingerprints. No one was allowed to touch the knife unless they were wearing gloves, even then they had to be careful so they all decided only Pandora and Sirius could touch it to avoid any more stressing, this then led them to finding out that Sirius’ parents, Walburga and Orion had been the holders of the knife, their fingerprints being the only ones found (Sirius could’ve told them all that but didn’t, Evan decided not to mention that for his own safety).
This was extremely odd as both of the culprits weren’t in the building at the time of the attack.
As well as this, Pandora made it her duty to find the addresses of the people she deemed important to the case (Sirius and Evan already knew the addresses of by heart but decided to keep that quiet so they didn’t have to be reminded).
Following the next few weeks, they’d investigate into every name that appeared that night, with Marlene looking into the initials they found to begin with.
And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, they’d find something.
