Chapter 1
march 20th, 1986
even though it was still spring, the weather started to feel more and more like summer already; the grass was that pretty green color, and the flowers were blossoming.
the terrain of St. Montreal’s private school for higher education, was honestly looking better than ever. even the building, which was normally boring and bland, seemed to look better.
“James, i am literally eighteen years old. i don’t get why you keep saying i need someone to babysit me, or whatever you mean by that.” Sirius said, as him and James came walking into the courtyard of the school.
“lord not this, again.” Peter sighed as he put his head in his hands, making Remus dramatically put an arm around him, like he had just seen some awful accident.
“ladies, ladies,” James said. “should we see it as an insult, that you folks aren’t greeting us, like the royalty we are?”
Sirius let out a dramatic sob to that, as he hugged the slightly taller boy, making James turn to him, hug him too, and fake cry like no tomorrow. Remus rolled his eyes at this, whispering something to Pete about ‘wondering why they were still friends with them’, making Peter raise his brows and whisper something like ‘to be honest, i don’t even know’.
“this girl asked for you today, Remus. said something about an essay.” Sirius said, while taking place next to Remus, grabbing the book he was currently reading; the picture of Dorian Gray, by Oscar Wilde “wasn’t that about the guy who sold his soul to stay pretty, or something?”
“uh, yeah, pretty much?” Remus said, wanting to grab his book back, but Sirius held it up; even though Remus could easily grab it, but for some reason he didn’t. “honestly,” Sirius started, “i’d do it too.”
“you would?” James interrupted, looking somewhat shocked. “ab-so-lutely. You’re telling me that if you were handsome and beautiful like me,” Sirius combed his long black hair with his hand. “you wouldn’t do it?”
James sighed and put his head on Pete’s shoulder, “yeah mate, absolutely.”
“James? you sound like you’re high.”
“just tired, that’s all.”
Remus, who had now grabbed his book back again, was immediately focused on the story again. The curly haired boy next to him slowly put his head on Remus’s shoulder, as he pulled a cigarette out of his pocket. He lighted it and took a big drag, handing the nicotine stick to the boy next to him, who also took a drag.
“will you guys ever stop? that stuff is gonna bloody kill you!” James said, making the two boys roll their eyes. “will youever stop? some weird plant mixed with crazy chemicals, isn’t what’s gonna kill us.” James sighed deeply once again. “whatever you say, mate.”
the courtyard was empty, the four boys were the only ones there and they honestly preferred it that way; no annoying people, no teachers telling them to ‘put that cigarette away!’ and no one telling them what they could, or couldn’t say.
“since my birthday is coming up, i figured we’d take a couple of days off and go, i don’t know; go do whatever.” James said. “yeah, sounds fun.” Remus then said, offering to take his car; not because he was the only one with a car, but because Pete didn’t have a license, Sirius was way too protective over his ‘66 mustang, even though he couldn’t drive to save his life, and James’s car was currently at his parent’s house.
Remus’s ‘79 yellow Mercedes benz, which used to be his mom’s car, but she had given it to him for his birthday, wasn’t the best, but it still had a massive amount of emotional value to him.

the sun was still rising as the boys sneaked out of their shared dorm, carrying an amount of luggage you could survive for a solid month with.
mid hallway, Peter almost tripped over the coat Sirius had given him to carry; Sirius had taken a whopping seven coats and jackets with him on the trip.
somehow they made it to Remus’s car without getting caught; Sirius had bought an unnecessary amount of luggage, ‘well, maybe we want to listen to some music!’ he had said, while trying to explain why it was so absolutely necessary to take his entire record player and some records with him, (most of them were his, but he had grabbed some of Remus’s too, who was used to that, at this point.)
the car was divided like this; Remus being behind the wheel, James (who was awfully good at reading maps) next to him, Pete behind James, and Sirius, who was constantly complaining about not being in the front seat, behind Remus.
“hey! hey! hey! why is James allowed in the passenger seat, and i’m not?”
“because you annoying when you have to sit still for longer than fifteen minutes.” Remus said, making Pete snicker.
“that’s not even true, you’re just jealous because i’m not some boring person like you!”
“i am not boring!”
“yes you are!”
“am not!”
“i will keep saying this, you guys act like an old married couple. it’s getting annoying.” James said.
“not even just now, but always. it’s always the same with you guys!” Pete added.
it was quiet for a bit after that, James and Pete had prepared some sandwiches the night before, incase anyone got hungry before any shops were open, they snacked on them while Remus turned on the radio. Sirius and Remus were those type of people that couldn’t bare to eat anything in the morning, they could only eat when it was well past 10 am. but James and Peter could pretty much eat whenever; three am? yes. midnight? sure! seven am, in a full packed car? absolutely.
“i want tea.”
“coffee.”
“not again!” Pete said, leaning forward, beating his head on the upper side of James’s seat, making James reach back to calm him down.
“smoothies it is.”
