Unwitting Confession

Looking at the two Heartrenders in front of  him, his right hand and Fedyor,  he orders them to keep watch for the night.

The both of them nod, but before they left,  Fedyor seemed to be trying to get a glimpse of something behind him.

His expression was filled with concern.

For what?

Deciding to see for himself, because he did not have any urgent matters to attend to just yet, and also because  he was curious, he turned around.

And then he spots her, sitting before the fire.

She does not seem to notice anything but the flickering flames in front of her, her friends are asleep next to her, tucked together beneath a blanket.

One he gathers she put around them.

'She mothers them.' He thought in intrigue,  but before he could continue that thought, he then truly set his sights on her.

And what greets him concerns him.

Her gaze seems to be unseeingly ensnared towards the flames, seeing things only she can see, he gathers.

He is familiar with that look, and he doesn't like to see it coming from her in the slightest.

And then he sees a single movement from her person, a scrunch from her brows…in pain.

Before he could stop himself, he strode towards her.

"You seem to be stuck in your thoughts for quite some time, Ms. Cherniak. Can you not sleep?" He asked in concern to the woman in front of him.

He stood a bit away from the fire, his gaze firmly fixed on her visage once more.

She then seems to be dislodged from her thoughts, at last.

Her gaze then finds him easily from within the shadows…as though she can feel him.

Well with the aid of the fire people could get a glimpse of him, but they could not truly see him, like her.

'She sees me.' He suddenly thought in surprise,  and a small part from within him, a part he had firmly locked deep within him, never to see the light

It is in awe, in awe of the woman in front of him.

And it also feels hopeful.

It wants to bare itself to her, show her everything he is and was.

It wants her to see him.

His true self.

He then, without himself noticing,  took a seat next to her.

She only gave him a raised brow in response.

And he then felt himself smile once more in her presence,  at her.

He does not know why he feels so deeply for her for some reason, but,…

But before he could continue that thought, she finally spoke to him.

"I could ask you the same, General."

Something within him,  did not like the distance between them(, even with them sitting next to one another), with the way she referred to him by his title…it felt cold, and wrong.

And before he could stop himself, he asked her to call him by his name.

Well not his true name, his chosen last name…for now.

And by her expression, she seemed to know that it was not truly his name.

He wouldn't put it past her, if she did know his true name in time, or perhaps…

"You want me to call you by your last name?" She asked, incredulously.

And then he couldn't help but laugh, because of the way she had scrunched her nose.

'She looks adorable like that…' He thought. 'Precious. '

If he doesn't stop with his albeit, strangely enough, attractive (which she won't admit) chuckling towards her face, she'll let him continue to do so, until his last breath escapes him.

Seemingly feeling the glower radiating from her, the man, at last,  stops with his chuckling.

He then freezes when he finally meets her gaze once more.

Almost as though he knew how close he came to true death, just now.

And that he is only alive because of her mercy.

And her mercy only, for now.

But shaking her head at the sudden bloodthirsty thoughts from within her mind, she then tilts her head at the man.

Who's dark eyes had then gleamed strangely at her, but she chose to ignore it once more.

"Well, Kirigan, never mind that. Don't you have important matters to attend to, " Stop bothering me, " what with you being a General and all." She snidely told the man.

Which he didn't seem to get, by the suddenly brightened expression on his face.

'Again, what a strange fellow.' She thought, while she felt herself blanch at the man in front of her.

'Yes,' she then thinks, 'Give me the torturous memories from before, instead of this…'.

She adhered to my request.

'Another accomplishment,' He thinks in awe, 'Another step closer.'

Looking at her enchanting eyes, he feels himself, once more, almost drown within their depths.

But before he could make a fool out of himself,

The 'once more' floating around in his mind.

he then answered her.

Truthfully

"I have no urgent matters to attend to at the moment,  and besides, they aren't important ... “

He whispers at the end.

What the both of them did not notice,  was that their fingers just  touched for a millisecond, until they retreated to their respective persons..

He doesn't know if it is just him, but it seemed too quiet just now, the only noise: their breaths and nothing else.

Their sights: on one another.

Everything beside them both seemed insignificant, they were the only ones that existed in that moment.

And she, who suddenly seemed to him like a supernova, shone brighter in that moment than any star he had seen before.

And if she destroyed him because of it, in time, he thinks, he would not mind it.

He would only look upon her in gratitude because of it.

'What you do to me, Ms. Cherniak. And I don't even know how it came to be…' He thinks in wonderment.

And she is all the more oblivious to the internal war he is experiencing, because of her.

Here she then frowns at him, after perceiving a sudden strange feeling, just now. But she's mostly also confused by the man in front of her.

"Why then?"

And why did it get awfully quiet just now, or is it just her?

Mentally shaking her head at the strange thought, she once more focused her attention on the man in front of  her, who's eyes suddenly looked towards hers with a heated gleam to them.

Which stood in contrast to his blank expression.

'...Okay, not strange at all.' She'll just leave it to one of his strange quirks, she then gathered.

But what she couldn't let go of,  was that she felt a sudden feeling from within his gaze.

One she did not understand, which again, with the man in question…being him.

She was not entirely interested in finding out what it meant.

'Not at all.'

He feels himself smile at her once more, he seems to be doing that a lot in her presence…

Unconsciously or not.

And again, he knows not why.

But he does not mind it, he admits.

"You are more important." He then uttered to her, shocking the both of them with his words.
