When Luna Met Neville feat.Gin Gin
“Luna, where in the world are we going?” Ginny asks her oddball friend shyly, her hand being gripped by the small blonde as she skipped down the Hogwarts Hallways. It was the second week of Hogwarts and they had decided to spend their weekend exploring.
“We’re going to see if there are MoonFrogs in the GreenHouses!” Luna announces excitedly, her radish earrings swinging as she skipped. “Then we’ll go tickle the pear and get a snack!” She smiles at the redhead, making a weird feeling appear in her stomach, her cheeks heating up oddly. They continue to the Greenhouses where Luna puts her arms up with a smile. “Ta-da! I knew I could lead us without help! Let’s find MoonFrogs Gin!” She pulls Ginny into the greenhouse, grabbing a mason jar from her bag for each of them.
“Are you sure it’s okay for us to be here?” Ginny asks nervously the blonde Ravenclaw. “I know Gryffindors are supposed to be brave and shit but even I am terrified of Professor Sprout’s wrath.” She shudders slightly, while the Hufflepuff Head of House was the kindest professor, she loved her plants more than anything, including her ‘Puffs.
“Professor Sprout doesn’t mind students in here!” Luna comments distractedly, looking at different plants for MoonFrogs. “Now start looking!” She insists with a little pout, knowing Ginny will give in. Said girl sighs, opening her jar and starting down the opposite row of plants. As their looking, they don’t notice a slightly taller boy bent over a plant, talking gently to it as he wrote something down in his journal. He was quiet, using his free time not solving mysteries with his friends to work on his passion for plants and flowers.
“What does a MoonFrog even look like?” Ginny complained under her breath as she looked under the leaves of daises that Professor Sprout kept in the back of the greenhouse. “Sure Luna, I’ll look for MoonFrogs with you, it’ll be fun,” Ginny grumbles, walking down the rows until she accidentally steps on something. Looking down she sees Neville Longbottom’s journal, and its owner sitting beside it, still talking about the plant. “Oh Hey Neville!” Ginny smiles, startling the plant-obsessed boy.
“Ginny!” Neville yelps surprised, glancing at the small redhead who was giving him a relieved look. “What are you doing in the greenhouses?” He asks curiously, eyes widening in confusion as he sees a small blonde humming random tunes while looking at the plants. “And um who is that?” He asks confused.
“Oh that’s Luna Lovegood, she’s my best friend and she lives near us back home. She’s a first-year like me; Ravenclaw.” Ginny informs him, blushing slightly as she looks at Luna, something that doesn’t go unnoticed by Neville who lets a small chuckle out. “She wanted help looking for MoonFrogs and other creatures, she loves them.” She explains at his curious look. Luna’s humming gets slightly louder and they notice Luna walking over to them, something small in her hand and a soft smile on her face. Ginny’s jaw drops when she’s able to view the small blue-grey frog in the young Ravenclaw’s hand. “No bloody way,” Ginny whispers in awe, she thought MoonFrogs were made up, like Nargles and other creatures.
“What is that?” Neville asks curiously, glancing at the small blonde. She was tiny compared to Ginny, sitting two inches smaller than the other first year and she had an angelic face with silver eyes that reminded him of someone but he could not put his finger on it.
“Neville Longbottom, this is a MoonFrog, they love Devil’s Snare and MoonFlowers.” Luna smiles at him, pushing the MoonFrog forward. “He says his name is Apollo and he’s the only one of his brothers to fall from the moon.” She strokes the MoonFrog on his little nose, giving him a small kiss. “Will you help us look for Nargles and Wrackspurts?” She asks with doe eyes causing the shy boy to nod and put his journal away, the group of two becoming three.
