Dragons and Princesses AU
The idea for this fic is playing on the whole dragon kidnapping princess idea and then a knight comes to save them, only in this case the knight is the bad guy and the dragon is the good guy.
Yang resembles the dragons from ATLA, a Chinese dragon-like body with large wings. She gold and Amber scales with bright yellow fur for her mane and running down her body. On her head are a pair of pure white antlers, and her eyes can change from lavender to red.
Ruby is a wyvern-like dragon, standing on her rear legs and having a pair of smaller arm-like legs below her wing joints, and is on the smaller side than the average dragon. She has black scales tipped with red, and bright red wings and underbelly.
Dragons are empaths in this AU, which is why Ruby and Yang made off with Weiss and Blake. They could sense their sadness. They are also capable of assuming a humanoid form, though they will always retain some draconic features like their wings, horns, tail, and some scales.
Story focuses on Weiss and Ruby. Weiss is trapped in her role as princess, forced to bow to her father’s will. While she believes she is fine, on the inside she is withering away and is miserable. She first encounters Ruby one night when she is singing to herself on the top of her tower. Ruby was observing silently, and sensing her longing to be free swoops down and takes her. They fly for a few days through the cold until they cross the ocean and arrive at Ruby’s home in Vale. Ruby doesn’t change into her humanoid form until then.
In Vale dragons are seen as sacred beasts, and to be chosen to live with one is considered a great honor. Weiss learns this when she tries to run away, only for the townspeople she meets to congratulate her for catching Ruby’s eye. Ruby tracks her down and after seeing how she interacts with the people of the town, Weiss agrees to go back with her.
After about a month of living together Ruby takes Weiss to meet Yang and Blake. Blake was taken in by Yang just before she was forced to marry. Adam, who had just inherited Sienna’s title after she was killed by “Atlas,” used the new influence to forcefully betroth her to him, but the day of the wedding Yang swooped in and spirited Blake away. The two have since fallen in love, but neither believes that the other loves them for various reasons.
Weiss and Ruby will begin to fall in love, and with Ruby's help Weiss begins learning magic and sword fighting. It was something she had great talent for, but Jacque prevented her from learning for various reasons, one of them being that her learning magic would maker her harder to control. They live peacefully for a time, until Atlas sends a military force led by General Ironwood to kill Ruby for taking Weiss.
