Walking through the crowd, feeling the chill of the crisp autumn air hitting Adalynd's face. Gold and crimson leaves flowing with the wind. Oh how she loved October. She can't help but remember why this time of the year is her favorite. While part of it is due to the weather and scenery, that isn't the main reason. No, the real reason is because it's when she met her.
It has been a year since they last saw each other, but the memories she has of their time together play on repeat in her mind every time she see's the leaves begin to turn, and slowly fall to the ground. She had spent a brief amount of time working for Nick and Elizabeth after both the twins and their mother had moved back in. Annie had decided that she wanted to take art lessons, and that's when Elizabeth found Adalynd.
For the five months she had taught Annie, Chessy and Adalynd had become close friends. It was almost impossible for them not to. It was as if it was fate, the two of them meeting. Then somewhere during the first two months, the lines between friendship and something else began to blur. The friendly conversations slowly turned more flirtatious. Watching each other when the other wasn't looking, searching for the other whenever entering a room, seeking each other out, hugs lasting a little longer than normal, the wandering hands. Yet neither of them made the first move.
It went on until the day Adalynd had to leave. Though she was an art teacher, She also owned an art studio back in London. She had gotten a phone call about the woman running the studio quitting. Two weeks later, she was on a plane.
She had never been one for goodbyes, but this was by far the hardest. Over time, she had gotten attached to both twins. They were both so different from each other, yet so similar at the same time. After Annie's art lessons, they would almost always drag her off for some sort of adventure or prank, that more often than not, would somehow always involve Chessy. Weather she was the one being pranked, or on occasion, joining in on their mischief.
Adalynd and Chessy didn't know at the time, but the girls had a plan. One that probably would have worked too if Adalynd wouldn't have left. The girls had seen how the two women looked at each other. They also knew that Chessy had never looked so happy in the time that they knew her. That was all they needed to form a plan to get them to confess their feelings for one another.
The girls where heart broken when they were told she was leaving. Not only because they had begun to see her as family, but because their plan would no longer work. For the two weeks before Adalynd had gotten on the plane, they both felt the shift. Chessy and Adalynd no longer participated in their pranks. They stopped their nightly talks out in the back. Touches no longer lingered, and hugs no longer lasted as long as they used to, or happened as often as they used to.
The two women began distancing themselves, because they knew what this meant. Neither of them knew how long Adalynd would have to be away, or if she'd ever return. They both thought it would be easier to pretend their feelings where never there. That they hadn't fallen for each other.
The day she left had broken both of them. Chessy had taken her to the airport, and the car ride was silent. She helped unload her luggage, and the two stared at each other for what felt like hours before falling into the others arms. They both had three words on their mind, but they were left unspoken. They held each other until Adalynd finally had to leave. With tears in their eyes, they said their final goodbye.
Or what they thought was their final goodbye.
One year had passed, and Adalynd found herself back in California. During her year away, the two didn't stay in touch. It was too difficult for the both of them to stay in contact, knowing they might never see each other again. Not to mention they thought their feelings were unreciprocated. Oh how wrong they were.
Adalynd ended up selling her art studio and bought a nice little house in Napa. During her time there in the past, she had fallen in love with the area. Of course, she didn't only fall in love with the area.
She had been back for a week when she decided to go to one of the local farmers markets. What she wasn't expecting to see was Chessy wondering from booth to booth. Frozen in her spot, she couldn't taker her eyes off of the woman. Almost as if Chessy could feel her eyes, she turned around, the two making eye contact with each other. Both women felt a rush of emotions the moment their eyes met, and they couldn't take their eyes off of each other.
Seconds later Chessy broke eye contact and began to make her way over to Adalynd, and before the other woman could process what was happening, Chessy was practically crushing her in a hug. Moments later, she was pushed away only to be met with a hundred different questions being thrown at her.
"When the hell did you come back? I thought you were staying there? Why didn't you call?" Adalynd couldn't help the laugh that came out as Chessy continued to bombard her with questions.
"Slow down Chess, I can only answer so many questions at a time." Not a moment later, Chessy pulled her back in for a hug, neither wanting to let go.
"How about we go back to my place for a little bit? Then I can answer all your questions." Both women pull away, before speaking again.
"Wait, you have a place here? How long have you been back?"
"I've only been back for a week. Just got pretty much everything settled into my new place. It's not far from here."
"Let me grab a few things and then we can leave?"
Thirty minutes later, the two had made it back to Adalynd's, catching up on everything that happened the past year. Chessy telling her how the girls are doing, that Nick and Elizabeth got remarried. And Adalynd talking about her selling her studio only a few months after being back in London because she had missed California. She also missed Chessy, but would never admit to that being one of the reasons she moved back.
Before they knew it, hours had passed and it was dark outside. Over the hours, the two had moved from inside, to the porch outside. Both sitting on a couch, and slowly moving closer to one another until their knees are touching. They sit in silence, looking at the stars before Chessy speaks.
"I've missed this ya know."
"Yeah, I've missed this too... I've missed you."
Turning her head to look at Chessy, she finds that the woman's eyes are already on her.
"I've missed you too hun. More than I'd care to admit."
A moment passes where both their eyes begin to wander, admiring the woman sitting in front of them. As the seconds pass, their faces grow closer, until only an inch is between them. Eyes moving to look at the others, before their lips finally meet. To them, it was as if the world around them faded away. Shivers being sent down their spines. The electrifying feeling when Chessy's hand cupped Adalynd's face. Hers wrapping around Chessy's neck and waist trying to pull her closer.
When both women pull away, their eyes closed and hearts racing. Their foreheads meet and their eyes open, locking with each others. The air around them seemed charged with an unspoken promise. That no matter what, the two would always find each other. That their connection would never be broken, and last but not least... their love for one another would last a lifetime.
And it did. After six months, Chessy moved in with Adalynd, still being a nanny to the twins of course. Adalynd had more than enough money saved to be able to live without working, which led to her going with Chessy more often then not to spend time with the girls. Then after a year, Chessy and Adalynd were engaged, the two marrying on October 17th the following year.
The love they share is one of a kind. One that can never be broken, and one that can withstand the toughest of times. It truly was fate that they met the first time, and it was as though the two meeting each other once again was written in the stars. Not to mention, it was pure luck that they met, and confessed their love for one another in October, then every year after, got to celebrate their love for one another in the same month.
