Now, I have no idea where any of you are from, nor how old any of you are. I'm sure there are at least a small amount of you that are from the u.s, and if you're not aware already, Roe v Wade was just overturned today. if you don't know what that is, it was a supreme court ruling from 1973 that made it to where women had the right to choose what they do with their bodies. Now that it is over turned millions of women have lost their right to have an abortion. it's being left to the states to decide. Many states already have extreme bans such as the heart beat laws (once a heartbeat can be detected you cant have an abortion), the 6-8 week bans (after 6 or 8 weeks you cant have an abortion) or complete bans have already been put in place by some states. while I may be one of the lucky women to live in a very liberal state, that isn't the case for most.
Now while this, so far, is just an attack on our bodily autonomy, this is just the beginning. This can, and will most likely lead to the u.s Supreme Court going further and further. this opens the doors for them to attack the lgbtq+ community, and let's be real, if you're reading this one shot book you are definitely a part of it. their next targets will be same sex marriage, and the right to love who we love. We have already been set back nearly 50 years by this ruling, and it will only get worse.
Now in the United States, a gun has more right than women. In a nut shell, they said that it's up to the states to decide if a woman should have the right to do what she wishes with her body, but that having a gun shouldn't be left to the states to decide, and that it is a person right to be able to carry a gun in the public. There have been over 250 mass shootings this year in the u.s. Just in one shooting alone 19 children were killed while in school. It's already too easy to be able to get a gun, but now to get a conceal and carry you don't need to have a reason. But to them, that isn't important. Apparently the only thing they find important is taking women's rights away.
Again, I don't know where any of you are from, if you're you're from the u.s, but if you are, we need to fight and to know our resources. Donate if you can, protest if you can. If you can't, share what going on and share the resources. Make people aware.
I'm sorry that this isn't an update on this one shot book, but this needed to be shared.
I'd like to clarify that in these states that are banning abortions or putting unrealistic bans on them also have no accepting for rape/incest and are the same states who have arrested women for having miscarriages or still births. some of them won't even allow it if the woman is at risk with the pregnancy
****Add on. I was right. One of the Supreme court justices have already said that they should reconsider rulings that protect access to contraceptives and same sex marriage.
I'd also like to say that the company Hey Jane will continue to send birth control to those who need it around the u.s.
If you do protest, be sure to cover identifiable marks such as tattoos, birthmarks etc. While we may be treating these as peaceful protests, the police will not. We learned this with the blm protests, and I doubt these will be much different. Wear things that are comfortable and aren't confining, bring lots of water. As a precaution make sure people know where you are, keep them updated throughout the day, etc. make sure you have cash and your ID with you, if you have long hair, tie it up, and bring food with you. dont wear jewelry or anything that could easily be grabbed onto. and definitely do not wear contacts lenses. be safe
