Chapter 3
He is pleasantly surprised by what he finds there, a large library lit by hundreds of lights. Slowly Harry walks into the room towards one of the bookshelves. He picks up a book from it and inspects it closely, 'Necromancy for Beginners' is what Harry reads on the cover.
Harry opened the book and began to read a basic corpse reanimation ritual, only to realize halfway through that it was written in Parseltongue, `These must have been the books written by Salazar Slytherin,' Harry thinks to himself in amazement. Harry read on until he had finished the book, taking him only two hours.
Throwing a tempus with his wand, Harry realized that it was 11 o'clock, and that he still had until one o'clock, so, instead of reading another book, Harry decided to rehearse what he had learned about necromancy with a basilisk reanimation. He probably should have started practicing on smaller animals, or better, not touched a book that would condemn him to 120 years in Azkaban at all, but Harry was nothing if not reckless, the one trait he got from Grifindoor, so he took a big chance.
Half an hour later, Harry had a bowl full of rat's blood and a crescent moon made of runes surrounding the basilisk's head, along with the necromantic tome in his hand, so he began the ritual.
`` ¡O mors dilecta!
Huic ritu tenebris
Obsecro te
Vivificare corpus ad vitam
Cum consecrata notam
Et aeterna potestas''
That was the chant Harry recited as he poured the bowl of rat's blood over the basilisk's massive skull. When he finished, the stain he had left was ridiculous compared to the size of the animal, but when the blood runes began to glow, Harry knew he had performed the incantation correctly.
Once the runes stopped glowing, Harry stared at the basilisk corpse for a few seconds praying that it had worked. Oddly enough, at this point Harry was thinking about what had happened to him these past few days. His godfather had died, everyone had accepted that Voldemort was back, and this morning Harry had been busy resurrecting a basilisk.
Harry didn't even know why he had decided to resurrect the basilisk, but it seemed like a great method of defense in case Voldemort or any of his Death Eaters came against him at Hogwarts. As much as Harry wanted to, and even if the resurrection was successful, Harry couldn't take the basilisk back to Privet Drive, although it wouldn't hurt to feed the basilisk to his relatives. God knows those rubbish people deserved to die being eaten by a real monster.
As Harry rambled in his mind about how to kill his relatives, the basilisk, or rather its skeleton, began to move slowly, shaking its head as if it were a dog waking up from a long nap.
When Harry looked at the basilisk, he froze in fear, he had forgotten what it was like to fight the thing when he was twelve, but when the basilisk, instead of staring at him, turned its head and stroked Harry's body demanding pats, Harry couldn't resist obeying and running his hands over the creature's smooth skull.
After spending an hour playing with Ash, as Harry had named the basilisk, he bid him farewell and headed for the exit of the chamber, making sure to order the basilisk not to follow him, as it could cause panic among the students. When he reached the entrance to the chamber, Harry made sure to put on his invisibility cloak, as he didn't want anyone to see him until he reached the Great Hall.
