“I’m sorry.”
The words echoes in Severus’s head.
Sorry?
Sorry?
Severus watches Narcissa’s face screw up with a kind of anger Severus had never seen before.
She was red and it looked like a vein was about to pop straight out of her forehead.
“SORRY-” Narcissa starts to shriek, but she’s promptly cut off by Severus.
“Sorry for what, Potter?” Severus asks, speaking so calmly it takes both him and Narcissa by surprise.
Even Evan looks a little put off by the sudden apology.
“Sev,” Narcissa tries to plead, a little angry that her best friend would even think of accepting such an apology but Severus shakes her off.
James looks a little confused and he chuckles awkwardly. “Sorry for being mean these past couple of years.”
“Mean?” Evan says, eyes blown wide with rage.
“And what about the physical abuse?” Severus inquires.
James balks. “Excuse me?! I never-”
“What about the mental abuse?” Severus continues, ignoring James. “How about the many times you sexually harassed most of the females in Hogwarts? Hm? What about all that?”
James’s jaw drops.
“You kept hurting me to try and get Lily to go out with you at first, didn’t you? You thought that taking me out of the picture would make her available to you? She had said no to you a million times. What about the word consent is so fucking hard for you to understand?” Severus says patronizingly. “How about that Ravenclaw girl whose skirt you lifted up? The Hufflepuff who you grabbed the chest of? I’m going to refrain from naming names to preserve some sense of their dignity, but you never gave a shit about that, did you?”
Sirius steps in. “Look here, Snivellus-”
And Severus laughs.
Fucking laughs.
“Oh my dear Sirius, don’t even think that I’ve forgotten you,” Severus croons. “You and James would taunt and hex me in the halls all the damn time. Did I do it back? Of course! But you always did it twice as much and much worse. Public humiliation to nearly killing me, you’ve really done it all.”
“What about Remus and Peter?” Sirius tests.
Evan scoffs. “Oh please, Black. Lupin was always a wilted little flower, he could barely stand up for himself, forget anybody else. Pettigrew is a fucking shrew, we don’t talk about him because there is nothing to talk about.”
Sirius just glares, not having anything to argue with.
Lily stands up, deciding to ignore both Evan and Narcissa. “Sev, that is a little harsh.”
Narcissa rolls her eyes. “Of course you would say that, mudblood.”
Lily turns a bright red. “How dare-”
“How dare I what? Defend my friend?” Narcissa challenges. “Not all of us are shitty excuses for companions, you know. Some of us are able to lift our wands and cast spells to defend those we care for. Some of us are able to comfort people we love when they are hurting. Some of us stick by those we find friendship in even if it means giving up a path to riches. You, Lily Evans, are a fucked up friend for abandoning Severus so you could inherit the title of Lady Potter. You have no excuse.”
Evan coughs into his fist, looking like he’s trying to hide a grin behind his hand.
“If you’ll excuse us,” Narcissa says, voice dripping with sugary syrup so sweet it could only be poisonous. “We’re going to be late to Transfigurations.”
Severus rolls his eyes. “You mean me and Evan are going to be late.”
“Same thing,” Narcissa dismisses, dragging Evan along behind her.
Evan gives Lily, Sirius, and James a beaming smile before flipping them off with both fingers. “See ya, fuckers.”
