Chapter 9
Rachel pov
Watching Matilda walk away I shake my head seeing her find her room before looking at the alter, walking over to it I tilt my head seeing the images on the bowls inside it.
Looking closer without picking them up I seeing one has a demon face that reminds me of a bat, looking at the rest I raise my brows seeing symbols that reflect that story she gave me.
It seems odd that it does "be careful" Matilda says coming back out placing a box inside while holding a bottle of wine before closing the case and locking it with a lock she pulls from her pocket, looking at it I see an owl crest.
It makes me think of the owl in that story that would appear in the background watching the girl.
"Those are house crest right?" I ask.
"Yes" she says walking to the kitchen placing the bottle on the counter before digging around in the cabinets.
She pulls a metal bucket out cleaning it before looking in the ice box finding a bag of ice, I watch seeing her pour some of it in the bucket before sitting the wine in it then more ice over it.
"They look interesting"
She smiles nodding before digging up a cup that she rinses and places on a drying rack "they're historical back home, and connected to my family we're the descendants of the original settlers there and those were the crest".
Nodding I go to speak only to hear someone pounding on the door, frowning I look at the door confused before Matilda stalks to it yanking it open frowning as the dogs run in.
"Oh hell no" she hisses before dragging a man inside and slams him against the wall by his collar, looking at him I see he's in greasy clothes with a hat and round glasses.
"Hey now, no reason to get hostile girl" he says laughing.
"Oh shut the hell up Karl, what's this bullshit I heard about you and Alcina upsetting Donna" she barks yanking him forward slightly before slamming him back against the wall.
"That's why I'm here" he says grabbing her hands pulling them.
"Don't try it because you know what will happen" she hisses lifting him slightly.
"Mother sent me to find a new dress and I have to get your approval, I'm not aloud to return without one" he screams as she suddenly drops him to his knees with an arm yanked up above his head twisting it.
She huffs shoving him forward causing him to slam his chin against the floor "you either clean up and put on clean clothes or you sleep in the yard and absolutely no smoking those nasty cigars in this house or I'm putting it out in your fucking eye" she snaps.
Turning around I open the fridge acting like I didn't see or hear them "who's the chick?" The guy demands.
Looking back I see him standing up while snapping his coat "she's none of you damn business and if I catch you trying to hit on her you won't like what I do".
Hearing them start arguing I roll my eyes while getting the dogs water and food "Matilda, we need something for dinner".
"Just order pizza" she calls back before getting in the guy's face sneering as he growls like a dog.
"Five work?" I ask going to the grab the house phone.
"Make it 10, this mutt can eat as much as me" she answers.
"Okay and if you two fight please take it outside some you don't break anything or hurt the dogs" I say.
"Better listen to your master" the guy mocks.
Matilda pov a while later
Smirking I sip my wine looking at Karl holding an ice pack to his eye with a busted lip "you're a glutton for punishment" I comment.
Hearing him mutter about me being a bitch I hum after taking a sip of my wine "I'm proud of it, your Mother raised me to be one and your sister added more to it".
Looking at Rachel I smile seeing her fighting back a smile "so he's one of the cousins you mentioned?" She asks.
"Yeah, he's the one who starts all the fights and works his mother up"
She nods looking at him as he shoves an entire slice in his mouth making her curl her nose in disgust "are you're other cousins going to show up at some point?" She asks.
"Donna won't leave the village because she's a coward" Karl says around a mouth full spitting food out in the process.
"Karl shut the fuck up and stop being a pig" I snap before looking at Rachel "Donna won't she's got extremely bad social anxiety, Sal is terrified of traveling, and Alcina has to focus on her daughters they get sick easy so she won't either" I add.
"Mother may, if that one has emergency information for her" Karl adds mockingly .
"Maybe I should have her come and deal with you" I snap.
