After, when the whole harrowing experience is over, and Viserys has gone down to the NICU to sit beside his long-awaited son, Rhaenyra curls up next to her mother in her hospital bed.
"I'm glad you're ok, Mumma," Rhaenyra says tearfully. "I thought I'd lose you."
"I'm alright, darling," Aemma replies, her voice hoarse over the beeping of various machines. She strokes Rhaenyra's sleek white hair. "I'm just glad we didn't let the driver convince us to go to St. Vincent's."
"Why?" Rhaenyra asks.
"Catholic hospitals don't allow tubal ligations," Aemma explains. "I'm so high risk now… I would've had to have another procedure, even though they already had me wide open."
Rhaenyra shivers.
"C-sections sound dreadful."
Aemma laughs quietly.
"Less painful than it was with you, dearest."
"Thank goodness for modern medicine," Rhaenyra says, shaking her head.
"Yes, I'm very grateful," Aemma agrees. "Can you imagine where I'd be without it?"
