Back to where we started
The Rivers’ were never a family blessed with good luck. For generations now, they had been living in poverty, prior afro-american slaves that had escaped to the UK only to struggle even more. Generations had set a new tragedy in each one. They had long since adopted children in the hopes that their family curse would somehow die with their blood but no, it just kept getting worse. When Oliver Rivers -7th in the line of adopted children by adopted children- turned out to be a wizard, they thought the curse had been broken…
And it was… at first.
The first few years, they continued to improve their living conditions. Soon they lived in a nice -if small- house in the countryside. Mr. Rivers had a stable job and Mrs. Rivers was expecting her first biological child… then the Deatheaters took over the Ministry…
The Rivers’ were tortured and killed, Oliver’s newborn sister had been harvested for ingredients and finally, they got to him at the battle of Hogwarts… Killed alongside dozens more, lying in the cold dirt, his soul awaiting the outcome. When Potter was victorious… he was relieved… but also shocked.
He wasn’t in the inbetween anymore, instead he was in his old home, from before his first year at hogwarts.
Oliver gasped, air filled his lungs, lungs that he shouldn’t have any more, he was dead, was he not? But how could he be dead, he wasn’t in the inbetween, that pale imitation of Hogwarts’ great hall void of sound, of color and warmth. Those pale white walls that seemed to numb the mind, to ease the shock and grieve, they were nowhere to be found. No… these walls, dirty gray with cheap, chapping paint and damp stains that foretold the coming collapse if nothing was done… They were certainly the same he remembered from before, before he went to Hogwarts, before he begged the teachers to help his family, even if that meant they had to forget him.
How stupid he felt now for doing that, they hadn’t lived long after anyways and he was forced to live on his own in Diagon alley, wasting his days inside, studying for exams that he would never take, to get a job that he would never apply for.
It confused him, why was he here, in this place that was long gone. This was not the afterlife, was it? He had long abandoned religion -why believe in Jesus when he could do what Christ did and so much more- so he hadn’t expected some grandiose cloudy castle with angles prancing about but surely the afterlife wasn’t a stingy room of when he was 11. Surely it was something more. If this was truly what death was, then he understood why Professor Binns refused to move on. Even the shell of what Binns had become was miles above being here for an eternity.
Everything looked just as plain and shitty as he had remembered it. The windows had all the same cracks, his furniture was broken and moldy in all the same places. Even the raggs he wore and those that he laid under in his makeshift bed had holes in all the same places.
It truly was the exact same as it had been all these years ago, before he got his first letter. The weather though… it was raining… but hadn’t his letter arrived on a sunny day? To be the one thing that was not the same, the weather was a strange choice… no it wasn’t the only thing. There also was this book -or rather tome- that laid on his lap. He certainly did not possess any books bound by leather, not until he already lived far away from his adoptive parents…
The thing had no title on its back nor its cover, only a small, near unnoticeable, silver-blue mark carved onto the otherwise pitch black leather. He knew of this mark, he had seen it when he helped Potter search for Voldemort’s tethers, his Horcruxes. This mark was one he found when he had read up on the ritual of how one creates a ‘soul jar’, in the hopes he might find a way to locate them if he understood them.
It was something known as the ‘Tongue of the Reaper’, a spiked circle with an Octagram inside, surrounded by the six runes, all from different runic alphabets, all reading as Knowledge. Carving this into an object was one of the key steps in preparing an object to become a Horcrux, it linked consciousness to the soul. If one did not carve this into a vessel and made it a Horcrux, it would fail.
Instead of a Horcrux, a soul vessel, one would create a Myrcrax, a power vessel. A Myrcrax could power an artifact for centuries, or imbue a portrait with the power to cast minor jinxes as the painted person saw fit but it would not bind your soul to the mortal realm, it would not be usable to revive oneself. If one tried reviving someone with their Myrcrax, it would produce not a person but a dementor, a creature that seeks the souls of others, for it has none itself. This artificial dementor would be stronger and larger than a normal one but it also required constant soul intake in order to not vanish. It couldn’t reproduce either.
Perhaps… had someone bound his soul in a Horcrux without him knowing? It wasn’t impossible to do but no… he had not killed, he hadn’t yet fractured his soul. So this was not a fantasy inside of a soul shard…
Hungry for answers, Oliver flipped open the book. The page looked to be normal parchment, which had been written on with baby-blue ink.

Oliver Kama/Rivers(Adopted):
{Heritage}:
Kama(Father: Kryll Kama(Died: 1982))/Prince(Mother: Nymphadora Kama née Prince(Died: 1983))
Kama Bonuses: +10 Transfiguration(Practical), x2 French learning speed, +3 Mag., Access to {Vault 139} Gringotts English branch & {Vault 125} Gringotts French branch
Prince bonuses: +10 Potions, x2 Dueling learning speed, +1 Mag.

Product of love: In the circle’s of your parents, where political marriages are common, you were born of love. +2 Luc.
It shocked him greatly to learn of his biological parents, he had always assumed that they had just abandoned him, that they were just muggles. This meant they were magical. The next lines, which shocked him even more, revealed they were even pure-bloods.
Pureblood status: You can trace back your lineage to the pre-industrial age. Not a drop of Muggle blood runs through your veins. Your magic, passed down for generations, is stronger than Halfbloods’ or Muggleborns’. Your relationship with ALL other purebloods is increased. Learning magical customs comes to you way easier. This status also adds +2 Cha. and +3 Mag.
This was weird for him in a multitude of ways. He had always thought he was a muggleborn, he had been killed because he was one but apparently he was not. More importantly, this confirmed -in a weird way- that blood status actually was a real, tangible thing. How else could he explain the +3 in Magic he gained. In a perverted way, Voldemort wasn’t completely wrong.
His methods were wrong, his ideas of how to deal with muggleborn were evil but Purebloods were indeed more powerful. As much as he hated to agree with Voldemort on anything, Muggleborns were indeed weakening wizard kind. Now that he thought about it, weren’t the Wizards of old, in a time before they mixed with the non magical folk, stronger than those of today? If blood status truly didn’t matter then why was there no Merlin around today? No founders reborn?
Sure Dumbledore was very powerful but even he couldn’t perform feats on the same level as the Wizards of old.
No! What was he thinking? He couldn’t agree with them! They were evil!
But he didn’t agree with them, did he? No. He didn’t agree with the senseless killing, the torture, the hate. What he agreed with was the Idea, the Idea that they had twisted to justify their rotten desires. An Idea that could bring good into the world, if only it was implemented right.
Determined, he read on.

Live to shop(random perk): unlock map [Diagon alley], unlock map [Knockturn alley], unlock map [Hogsmeade], unlock map [London Center]
Oliver read and re-read the perks probably two dozen times till he knew what to pick. [The language of love] was right out of the question, it wasn’t as important compared to the other options, the same story with [The wonders of Childhood] and [Blood is valuable]. He considered [Puberty? not again] for a bit -who wouldn’t, being a teenager sucked- but he didn’t want to be a friendless shut-in again, which meant he would have to accept his mind being a bit restricted for some time. [Get out of my head!] wasn’t too bad but learning Occlumentic was something he could do later by himself.
[Live to shop] was useless to him, as he already knew Diagon alley and Knockturn alley by heart, no need for a map. [The lost history of Slytherin] was his final elimination, simply because he liked it the least of the remaining 4.
He tapped on the page [Prove your blood status] -he had a pretty good idea what ‘{Reclaiming the idea}’ was about-, [My uncle, Snape] -a way to escape being on Snape's bad side? People would kill for something like that- and [Happy Birthday to me] -this would take care of most of his school supplies, meaning he could spend the school provided ‘Muggle family fund’ and whatever was in his vaults(it felt unnatural to think that he owned not one but two Vaults!) on himself. No more second hand robes! Heck, he could even get a nice dress robe, maybe then he would get a date in fourth year!-.
The three Perks lit up in Yellow light and the ink stayed that color.

You get to spend 10 points on your stats per Level except for level 1 which is only worth 5 points. Right now you can spend 15 points on your stats. In the future you may also convert stat points into skill points(1 stat → 10 skill) but we advise you to spend your points on stats in your early levels.
Also, if you are wondering why you would need Int.? Most of your magical knowledge will be blocked and you will have to relearn it. Your Int. also determines how fast you relearn it, though relearning is faster than learning.
Only 15 points… This was very difficult to decide. After a few minutes of thinking, he set the book down, trying to clear his mind. When he looked up, however, he saw that the sky had darkened considerably, meaning he had been reading for a long time, depending on when today was, it would be about 9 o’clock in the evening if it was summer or 4 in the afternoon if it was winter… either way he had been reading for a long time. He contemplated when he would see Diagon alley again, as there were no books in his room, this had to be some time before Professor Sinistra told him he was a Wizard.
Though it could be no longer than a year before then, seeing as his wall already had that hole from when his father fought the burglar, a week before Christmas 1990. He wondered if this time, he could spend more time with his adopted family but cringed. If he wanted to spend more time with them, that meant he couldn’t make that deal with his professor’s to get them a better life… Was it not a small price for them to be happy? He could prevent their deaths with this second chance and… and they could live happy, long lives… He needed to think about that a bit more before making his decision.
After a few more minutes, he had chosen where to put his stat points.

Skills:These are the skills that you have at least some experience in. If you have never done something, it’s skill won’t appear until you do the corresponding action. Some skills will start with some points already because of natural talent. Some skills have been blocked and need to be re-learnt. These skills can be raised by a multitude of different actions and decisions, keep your eyes open!
Be aware that all skills are out of 100. if you see something like ~History of magic~ 30/60, that means that skill is still blocked, only allowing access to 30 out of your actual 60 points.

“So… if I don’t take these quests then the penalty for Failing doesn’t apply?”, he mumbled to himself.
He wouldn’t take {You’re a Wizard Oliver} then, too risky.
He did accept {My dear nephew} and {Reclaim your right} though, as they would be easy to complete soon.
“Guess my Birthday tomorrow…”
That much he gathered from the Time limit of the {Reclaim your right} quest. He would need to sleep now, he needed the energy… this would be good!
With a smile, he laid down, happy to start his Hogwarts journey once more.
