CHAPTER ZERO

CHAPTER ZERO

Sam Holt took no pleasure in what he was doing tonight. That was the headmaster's only thoughts as he finished appirating to the small house in Cuba.  His wife had told him this was a bad idea, even argued it, but truly, these people are the only family the two young children have left and so, they must be brought up here. That was his explanation of course. That doesn’t however, mean he doesn’t disagree with what he's doing tonight anyways.

by the curb of the street where the small family home sat, there was a cat sat as stiff as stone and he quickly realized she wasn't done arguing just yet. “Good evening, Colleen.” Sam sighed, slightly irritated as he turned away from the cat and back towards the house.

“How did you know it was me?” The woman, Colleen, asked as she transfigured back to her original and much more human form.

“I have never seen a cat sit so stiff in my life, my dear. Plus, we’re married. I'd hope to know what you look like in all forms.” Sam sighed once more and turned back towards her. The woman simply nodded at that, not caring to give a verbal response.

“Sam you can't seriously think about leaving these children with these people? I’ve been here all day and they are the worst sort of muggles imaginable!” Colleen continued on with the argument from earlier that day whilst changing subjects. No one liked the idea of leaving these children with muggles but…

“These people are the only family they have left. It is best that they grow up with a family rather than without one.” He simply stated as he wanted nothing more than for this conversation to be over and done with. He didn’t like doing this either but it was what had to be done. Why couldn’t she understand that?

“I know, I know, it's just- wait, where are they anyways?” the woman asked and cocked her head to the side in a questioning manner similar to a cat.

“With Coran.”

“Coran?! Are you sure you can trust him with something so important?” Colleen panicked. She didn’t know Coran the way Sam did so he supposed it was an understandable reaction even if she had known him for years.

“Ah, but on the contrary my dear, I’d trust Coran with my life.” and with that Coran’s motorbike was heard honking as it came down from the clouded skies above ending that conversation as well.

Once the man had landed and had successfully parked the vehicle Sam started the conversation up again, anew, trying to settle the small feeling of guilt that stirred in his gut as the time to leave the children grew closer.

“Good evening, Coran. I hope that the children were no trouble?” Sam greeted warmly while Colleen just stood next to him and offered coran a simple wave and small smile as that was all she could physically conjure up.

“Oho! Not at all professor, In fact, they both fell asleep as we were just about half way over the ocean!” Coran said as he grabbed the two baskets that seemingly held the children and turned to the only other two adults out on the street so early in the morning.

As Sam peered into the baskets he nearly sighed a breath of relief that they were both in there and that Coran hadn’t lost one on his way. It had happened before with dragon eggs. “That’s good.” he murmured and picked the baskets up. The air was heavy around the three professors. None of them were ok with this. But once again, it is what needed to be done.

“Sam,” Colleen whispered pleadingly into the air around them as the older man walked towards the front door once more.

“It is what needs to be done, my dear.” The headmaster mumbled as he placed the baskets that held the two children on the top step of the small family home.

There was no reply to that as the other two professors came closer and watched as their old friend sat the small envelope on top of the young boy's head rather than the girls. The odd scar, just barely hidden. No one made a noise for a few minutes until the silence was interrupted by muffled sobs. The married couple whipped around to face their family friend who was trying his best not to cry.

“Oh don’t cry Coran this isn’t goodbye after all.” the headmaster comforted as he patted the man on the shoulder.

“Yes, you will see them again!” Colleen cheered with a small and fragile smile.

“I know, I know, this is just so sad!” He sobbed and turned back towards his flying vehicle.

The married couple watched as Coran sobered up and began to take back off towards the castle to return home for the night.

“Sam, we can change our minds now y’know? I can pick up the car and come back- I mean, there won't be a child alive in our world that at the very least won't know the boy's name for goodness sake!” Colleen argued for the last time about this subject. Her husband was so tired with the arguing but he understood where she was coming from, afterall he felt similarly. He wished to agree with her but he couldn’t.

“Once again darling, they are the only family those two have. Let them grow up safe and away from all of that until they’re ready.” Sam sighed tiredly for hopefully the last time that night and extended his arm for her to take.

The woman sighed once more and nodded before latching onto her husband's arm and appirating back to their home in England to look after their own children.
