Hermione’s POV

I sit there alone on my bed, reading the books my parents got me for my birthday. I smile at the words typed in a perfect manner along the page. I don’t smile a lot these days, not since Harry, Ron, and I started to drift apart. They went their own way, and now we aren’t really friends. I sigh and go back to my reading.

“Hermione, love, it’s time for breakfast!” Mom calls.

“Coming,” I respond. I close the book and walk down into the kitchen. My mom is in the kitchen preparing lunch. “Did Dad already leave for work?”

“Yes dear. He had an important appointment to attend to.” Mom sighs and sets the plate with french toast and blackberrys. “Eat up, we are going somewhere today.”

I’m about to let my curiosity get the better of me and ask where, but stop myself. I look out the window as I start to eat the delicious food. A loud scratching noise at the door. “I’ll get it!” I call.
I open the door to see a dark brown barn owl sitting on the front porch, a letter clutched in its beak. It drops the letter and tilts its head to the side, before flying off towards the rising sun. I pick up the letter, a gasp escapes my lips. Hogwarts. It’s from Hogwarts. The front of the letter has my last name printed on it. While the back has the signature Hogwarts seal. I open the letter and read what it says,

I practically jump up the stairs as I run to tell mom about this. “Mom! Look at this, it’s happening really soon, but can we still go?”
“Whoa, slow down. Let me see it.” She looks the paper up and down, and then reads it again, almost like she’s searching for something. “Alright, I don’t think we have anything on the calendar, so why not!”
I freeze once I realize what, or better off who I’m going to see there. I’m going to have to see Harry and Ron now!

~Time skip-2 weeks~

“Hermione! It’s time to go! The event starts at 12, and it takes forever to get there.”

“Mom, why don’t we just use floo powder? It’s much faster, and we have a fireplace.” I ask, as I walk down the stairs. I decided to wear a crimson red summer dress with rope straps and roses on it. My hair is pulled up into a ponytail with a black hair tie.

“Oh honey, you look beautiful!” She says, a huge smile on her face. I smile back. “I guess we could use floo powder, but do we even have any? It’s not like we have it lying around like other wizarding families.”

Oh, I have some,” Hermione grinned slyly. “I got it last time we were at Diagon Alley.”

“Oh, okay. Well let's go then! We don’t want to be late.” Mom picks up her bag and turned away from the front door.

“Mom, isn’t dad coming?”

“Oh.” She turns to look at me. “He was going to come, but he got held up at work. I’m so sorry, I know he has been really busy lately…”

“Mom, it's fine.” I interrupt. “I know he’s busy, it was just a question.”
She stared at me for a minute, before calling “Let's go then,” and heading to stand beside the fireplace.
I look down, knowing I hurt her. But somewhere in the back of my mind I don’t care, I said what I said, and I know it. “Alright, lets go.” I grab the black pot from the coffee table. I walk into the fireplace, the gray ashes floating up around me as I disrupt the ground with my black boots. I put my hand in the bag and get ready to leave. “Hogsmeade!”

The next thing I know I’m standing in the Hogshead inn. I smile, glad to be back here. I missed this place. Mom shows up a second later. We leave the inn and walk down towards the large field near the shrieking shack. People have already started to gather, I start to worry that I’ll be all by myself today, because I know that Mom is going to go talk with the other parents.

As we reach the crowd, I spot the Weasleys, Ginny and I lock eyes and she gives me a small wave, I return it. I turn back to my mom, who, surprise surprise, isn’t there anymore. I spot her talking to Seamus’s family. I look back at the ground, and decide to look for Luna.
I’m deep in my thoughts, not paying any attention to the people around me, avoiding this person there, and saying “excuse me” to get by another person over here. Maybe I should try and talk to Harry or Ron. They probably have moved on but I gues- my string of thought was cut short as I suddenly bumped into Someone.

“Oh! I’m so sorry, I didn’t-” I look up at the person and I freeze. I’m looking up into the gray eyes of Draco Malfoy. “-see you there.” I finish softly. But instead of shooting some snarky comment like; “Watch where you're going Granger!” Or “Watch it mudblood!” He just stood there, and for a second we stared into each other’s eyes. I didn’t want to look away, for some reason, for some very, very, very weird reason. But I did. I tore my eyes from his, and averted them to the green(and slightly yellow) grass. I whispered one last “sorry,” and walked off in a hurry.
