Chapter 1

Draco shook as his aunt stared him down. He should have known better than to have protected Potter. For some reason, though, he couldn’t stand the thought of him being hurt or losing this war.

“You said it wasn’t him!” Bellatrix hissed as she pointed her wand at him. Draco backed up as she came closer and closer.

“I-I said I didn’t know!” He exclaimed.

“You-!”

“Bella!” Draco’s mother pleaded, “Please, have mercy!”

“Have mercy?” She asked before she suddenly stopped and grew a sharp smirk that made a shiver run down his spine. She looked to the others in the room, “Bring him to the Ministry. I know exactly what punishment would be fitting.”

They grabbed him. His mother cried, “No! Please, sister, not my son, not my dragon-”

That was all he heard before they apparated away. When he noticed where he was, he paled and his breath stopped while his heart pounded. He stood in front of the Veil in the Department of Mysteries.

“No! No, no, no-”

“Throw him in!” Bellatrix commanded and they obliged. They dragged him closer as he struggled and twisted, trying desperately to get away.

“No!”

But it was too late. As soon as he was thrown into the Veil, it all went blank.

“No! Please, sister, not my son, not my dragon-” A woman screamed in his mind. She sounded desperate, familiar.

Dragon, The young man wondered, Is that me?

The man groaned as he slowly became alert. He was on something soft and warm. His whole body was sore and his head felt like it was cracked open. A soft voice hushed him as something cool and wet was dabbed onto his face.

“Shh, it’s alright.” The voice said, “You’re safe here.”

The words were different from the words that bounced in his head. Still, he understood it all the same. He opened up his eyes and was met with a woman who seemed slightly older than him. Dark hair, dark eyes and slightly tanned skin.

Wait, He thought, How old am I?

“I’ve never seen someone with white hair before,” She commented as she dabbed a wet cloth in a bowl of water.

Was white hair unusual?

“What happened to you?” She asked as she dabbed the cloth on his head, “You must have been roughed up quite a bit.”

“Was I?” The man asked in a croaky and hoarse voice. She looked at him, those dark eyes seemed warmer now.

“You don’t remember?” She questioned.

He gave a small nod and spoke, “Do you know who I am? I can’t seem to recall.”

Her eyes widened, “You’ve lost that much?” She pursed her lips tightly, seemingly thinking over her options. After a few moments, she spoke up again.

“Do you know your name, at least?” She asked him. He went to shake his head before that woman’s words echoed through his head.

Dragon. ” He whispered, “I think it’s Dragon.

“Long, then? No family name?” She asked. When he shook his head, she nodded, “It suits you.” She hesitated before continuing, “You could always stay here until you recover. If you want to, of course.” She rushed to say.

He looked at her and tilted his head, “Are you sure? I wouldn’t want to be a burden.”

She shook her head, “You wouldn’t be. To be honest with you,” She began shyly, “I’ve been lonely, living here by myself for so long.”

He nodded, “If it’s not too much trouble…” He trailed off as he realized he had no idea what the woman’s name was.

She smiled, “Sorry! I forgot my manners. I am Bai TaiLi. Pleasure to meet you, A-Long!”

He smiled back, "The pleasures mine, Bai TaiLi
