It's Finally Over
"Can they go to the school now, Je?"
"Yes. Today, they will get the letters. Tomorrow, they venture Into the Wizarding World for the first time."
~
Sitting down at the breakfast bar with a groan, Renesmee rested her head on the cool surface. "What's wrong with you, grouchy?" Scott asked, playfully messing with Renesmee's hair. In the past month, both Philip and Renesmee took Remus' advice and started to trust Scott and Hope which the two new-ish parents were very thankful for.
"I hate school," was the response the man got which caused him to chuckle lightly. "Why do we even go? It's not like we're going to learn anythi- you know what? Nevermind. Philip might actually learn something!"
"Hey! That's just rude, I'm smart as well!" Philip exclaimed in mock-offence. Renesmee simply raised an eyebrow at her brother.
"Hun, you thought 5+2 was 10. It's 7," was all the girl responded with as their older sister, Cassie, joined them as she also got ready for school. "Cassie Lassie!"
"Hey Nessie Bessie!" Cassie greeted back as she ruffled up Philip's hair, high-fived Remus and gave Renesmee a hug. "You three ready for-"
Cassie was interrupted by a squawk of an owl. The residents in the Lang Building, as Anthony Edward Stark had so generously dubbed it, all turned their attention towards big window as a beautiful white owl flew in and landed perfectly on the back of the seat Cassie was about to sit on. In it's beak was three envelopes with a wax stamp on the back.
"Dad, what's this about?" Remus asked as Scott ventured towards the owl, plucking the three envelopes from the owl's beak. Once the letters were taken the owl set off for it's destination, wherever that was.
"I'm not sure, Re. There's one addressed to you, Philip and Renesmee." Scott answered, handing the letters to each respective child. "Well, what do they say? Nessa?"
"It says 'Dear Miss Lupin-Lang, We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. Please find enclosed a list of all necessary books and equipment. Term starts on September 1. We await your owl no later than July 31. Yours sincerely, Minerva McGonagall.'"
Philip looked up at his adoptive father. "What? Isn't that the school Harry and the others went to? Back in the 90s?"
Scott nodded, looking towards the front door of Building 7 as Steve entered with James, Sirius and Tom. "They got a letter to Hogwarts as well. I don't understand why. Nor does Buck, to be honest." Steve explained, pointing to the letters his three adopted sons were holding tightly in their hands with pure confusion in their eyes.
That's when Tony Stark entered the building as well. "Same as Rose, Pete and Harls. The question I'm wondering, however, is why. Why is Minerva wanting three of our kids to go to Hogwarts, especially in Harry's third year, if I'm thinking back to the right time. Third Year for the 'Golden Trio' took place in 1993? Right?"
"Yeah, that sounds about right. Problem is, Sirius, Remus and James. How are we gonna explain their names?" Scott asked as the nine kids who had gotten their letters all glanced at each other. What was going on? Why were they talking about their Uncle Harry's Third Year at Hogwarts? They weren't going to his Third Year... Were they? They most likely were, knowing their Uncle Fury who had most likely owled 'Minerva' to try and make it possible for these nine kids to go to Hogwarts.
"Let's just go and get the stuff, we'll need to go to Britain to get it," Steve explained.
"Don't forget about the time travel part of it. Looks like we'll have to talk to Nick before we leave," Scott noticed, him, Tony and Steve all getting the nine kids and heading to the Quinjet with a bag or two for the couple of weeks they would be staying in Britain, in 1993.
One thing weighed heavily on the nine kids minds as they sat in the seats on the Quinjet, watching the world go by.
'What the heck were they going to do now?'
CHAPTER 01
An hour after everyone was loaded on the Quinjet the adults started to test the kids on their observation skills, meaning that the adults just quizzed them on what was on the letters they had been given. "What does the list of equipment say, Rose?" Scott asked from where he stood talking to the other two male adults, Tony and Steve.
Rose opened her letter and looked at the text that was written in ink. "Let's see here... For uniform ("Oh great, uniform!" "Shut up, Siri! Continue Rose, sorry.") it says here that we need to have three sets of plain black robes that will be magically turned into our house colours, one black pointed hat, one pair of protective gloves which are made out of dragon hide (Esme gulped at the mention of 'dragon hide') or similar, and one black winter cloak with silver fastenings."
"The books, Ren?" Tony asked as he glanced towards his first adopted daughter who was now Scott's adopted daughter.
Esme scanned her list for the books they would need for their Third Year at Hogwarts. "The Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1) by Miranda Goshawk, A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot, Magical Drafts and Potions by Arsenius Jigger, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them by Newt Scamander, Magical Theory by Adalbert Waffling, A Beginners Guide to Transfiguration by Emeric Smith, One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi by Phyllida Spore, and The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-protection by Quentin Tribble."
"And Sirius, what other things do we need?" Steve asked. Everyone knew there wasn't really a point to Steve's question since he already knew the answer to it but he probably wanted to see what Sirius could read since... well, it's Sirius.
"Pretty sure you already know the answer, Dad, but it says we need 1 wand, 1 cauldron (Pewter, Standard Size 2), 1 set of glass or crystal phials, 1 telescope, and 1 set of brass scales." Sirius answered.
"It also says we can bring a cat, a toad or a an owl." Philip pointed out, smiling towards Remus and Esme who smiled encouragingly back at him. Uncle Steve nodded in agreement.
"Alright. We're meeting Hagrid at the Leaky Cauldron and he'll take you guys from there. Just don't-" Steve was interrupted by Scott calling something over his shoulder.
"Reaching Time Travel jump!" Scott called over his shoulder from where he was now seated in the pilot seat of the Quinjet. Everyone prepared to be sent back to 1993, the kids not really ready to see their Aunts and Uncles and Grandparents (James Sr. and Sirius Sr. wanted to still be called Uncles though everyone ignored it and called them Grandpa James and Grandpa Sirius, it was much easier than 'Sirius Sr.' and 'James Sr.' to be honest with you.) their age or a little younger than what they already were in Sirius and Remus' case.
~
Arriving at the Leaky Cauldron, the group of twelve were met by a... giant? A half-giant? Whoever he was, he was talking to a bunch of gingers and two others who weren't gingers. "Ah, yeh 'ere! How was the journey o'er? Good? That's good, that's good." Hagrid said, greeting Steve with a broad smile? No one could really tell with his beard. "Ah, Steven! How are ya? How's Bucky been since the whole... Prank gone wrong?"
"I'm good, Hagrid. Yeah, Buck's good. Don't think he's ever forgiven himself for what happened to the guys, but you know them. They won't let up on a prank gone wrong, especially James and Sirius, the two main idiots of the group." Steve responded, a soft smile on his face. Who was this man?
"Ah, well, lads will be lads, eh? And who's this?" Hagrid asked as he turned to look at Tony and Scott.
"Well bless my soul, Steven Grant Rogers!" a voice exclaimed, the owner of it making their way over to where Steve stood. "You haven't aged a bit, Rogers."
"Nor have you, Arthur," Steve responded, shaking hands with the man. "Harry! It's good to see you walking around instead of your father carrying you around all the time. If it wasn't James, it was Sirius. If it wasn't either of them, it was surprisingly Remus. Not a clue why, but apparently he got attached to you. Much like everyone who came in contact with you, kid."
"Y-You knew my dad?" Harry asked, brows furrowed in shock. You can guess why. This man, Steve Rogers whom he had never met, knew his dad. He knew James Charles Potter.
"Knew him? Kid, I was one of the man's best friends during our time at Hogwarts. Including Buck who couldn't come with us today as he's trying to stop Clint from, well, being Clint to put it simply." Steve responded. "Now, allow me to introduce you all to my family. These are my three sons, James, Sirius and Thomas. (sharp intakes of breath were heard for James and Sirius's names.) This is Scott and his three children, Remus, Renesmee and Philip. This is Tony and his three kids, Peter, Harley and Rosalice."
"Nice to meet you, I'm Harry. These two are my best friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger." Harry introduced, shaking hands with the nine 'American' kids.
"Bless my olden soul! Renesmee Lang!" A voice exclaimed, causing Renesmee to turn around. Upon seeing who it was, all colour drained from Esme's face and her eyes widen significantly. "You've grown a bit, haven't ya? And look here! Rosalice Stark! Peter Stark! Harley Stark! Why, it feels like it was only yesterday I held you when you four were only babies."
"Jonathan?!" The four kids who were singled out exclaimed, eyes wide in shock. Jonathan nodded, smirking at them and their shocked expressions.
"Let's go get your things, shall we, kids?" Steve asked with a guarded expression.
"Ya really think I died from that shot, Rogers? Clearly, ya don't know me as well as ya think ya do." Jonathan said, trying to get Esme closer to him. That failed as Arthur pulled Esme to stand behind him. It appeared that Arthur had been briefed on what happened to her, to all of them who had been unfortunate enough to know Jonathan.
"Stay away from them, you cause nothing but trouble, Jonathan," Arthur spat at Jonathan, Molly wrapping Esme in a tight hug and telling her that she was safe. Was she? Yes. Did she feel safe in that moment? No, not really.
"Let's go get your equipment, shall we?" Molly whispered to the nine kids, all of them heading to Diagon Alley with Hagrid and Scott to escort them whilst the others stayed to sort out the whole Jonathan fiasco. Why did he have to show up now?
CHAPTER 02
Remus had his arm wrapped around Renesmee's shoulders as they travelled through Diagon Alley to get their things for their first ever year at Hogwarts. "Remy, come on, we need to get our wands." Renesmee said as the two - who most had dubbed as the 'Lang twins' - headed to Ollivander's Wand Shop.
"Ah, the children from the future. It's a pleasure to finally meet the two of you. Remus John Lupin-Lang and Renesmee Imani-Antonia Aku-Lang. A pleasure to meet the two of you," Ollivander greeted, smiling at the two out of three Lang siblings. "Now, let us try and find the two of you a wand." Remus and Esme watched as Ollivander went to the back and grabbed two identical boxes with the initials 'RJL-L' and 'RI-AA-L' on the ends. "I believe these two will work."
Sharing a sceptical glance, they both plucked the wands from their respective boxes and suddenly felt a heat travelling down their arms, looking at each other with wide grins on their faces. "Woah," Remus breathed, his sister nodding in agreement.
"I believe the two of you have found your wands," Ollivander commented, an all-knowing glint shining in his eyes. After the two of them had paid, though Ollivander kept saying that they didn't need to, they headed to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions to get their plain black robes.
As they were walking, they accidently bumped into another pair who seemed to be heading to Madam Malkin's store. "Oh, sorry!" Renesmee apologised, a ginger kid and her grabbing each other's arms to stop themselves from falling. Remus quickly helped steady his sister whilst the blonde haired kid helped to steady all four of them.
"It's fine, I wasn't looking where I was going," the ginger boy apologised, holding his hand out for Esme to shake. "Alexander Hamilton, ma'am." The boy, Alexander, introduced to her, both of them blushing slightly.
Shaking the boys hand, the girl grinned. "Renesmee Lang, sir," she replied, looking into Alex's violet eyes that seemed to draw her in further. As sudden realization dawned on the two that they weren't alone and that they had company with them, they broke apart and cleared their throats. "Uh, sorry. This is my twin brother, Remus."
"Pleasure to meet you, Alex," Remus greeted, shaking hands with Alexander who nodded.
"This," Alex said, gesturing to the blonde haired blue-eyed beauty next to him, "is my best mate, John Laurens." Both Remus and Esme shook hands with John, though John was a bit more eager to shake Esme's hand than he was Remus'. Neither seemed to notice. "Are you guys heading to Madam Malkin's to get plain robes?"
"Yeah, we were just heading that way when we bumped into you two," Remus said, with Esme nodding in confirmation.
"Well let's go together, shall we?" John suggested. The other three of the four children there nodded and so the group of four made their way towards Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions.
"What year are you and John going into? Remus and I are going into our Third Year." Renesmee asked Alex as the two of them walked ahead of Remus and John.
"John and I are going into our Third Year as well." Alex replied, blushing slightly. "Have you always attended Hogwarts, or are you and your brother exchange students?"
"Yeah. My brother and I are transferring from Castelobruxo from Brazil, since it has a popular exchange-student programme for European schools like Hogwarts and such, so the culture there is rather bountiful and it's fun learning about all the different magical cultures, y'know?" Renesmee replied, smiling slightly at the boy as his eyes widened. "Yeah, it's a lot to take in. We have some friends from other schools like Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That's how we met James and his two brothers, Sirius and Tom; we met the three of them through the exchange-student programme when they came to Castelobruxo. What about you and John? Have you two always attended Hogwarts or are you exchange students as well?"
Alex chuckled, nodding slightly. "Yeah, John and I are exchange students from Ilvermorny. We have two friends from different schools. One of our friends, Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette but everyone just calls him Lafayette, was lucky enough to be accepted into Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, which is located somewhere in the Pyrenees, even though it's an all girls school. Then our other friend, Hercules Mulligan, was accepted into Durmstrang Institute in Bulgaria or so he tells us. No one really knows where it is, but people think it's somewhere in Northern Europe."
"That's cool," Renesmee commented as they entered Madam Malkin's. "So, if I'm correct, then Lafayette is French? And Hercules is... Bulgarian?" Alex smiled, trying not to laugh. "What? Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Because." Alex chuckled, smiling when he saw Esme laughing slightly as well. "You got Lafayette right, but Hercules isn't Bulgarian. He knows the language, kind of, but he's Irish. He was offered either Hogwarts or Ilvermorny and he chose Ilvermorny. In our Second Year he transferred to Durmstrang and now he's joining us in this exchange-student programme like you and your brother."
"Oh," Renesmee commented, blushing slightly. Alex smiled, not noticing the jealous look his best friend was sending him as Madam Malkin pulled the two chatter boxes onto the pedestals to take their measurements. "So what were your robes like?"
"Well, Ilvermorny robes were blue with a red lining." Alex replied, giving a little squeak when he felt Malkin gently prod his side with something causing Esme to chuckle silently. "Shut up. Anyway, what about you?"
"Well, Castelobruxo robes were green. Bright, vivid green. They honestly hurt your eyes at first glance, but you get used to them after a while." Renesmee replied. Alex and Renesmee soon lapsed into a comfortable silence whilst Madam Malkin finished up. Once she had, they smiled and thanked the woman before waiting for the other two and then heading back to the Leaky Cauldron.
"I'm telling you, Alexi! It's gonna happen someday," Renesmee said, annoyed that 'Alexi' wasn't seeing her point of view on the argument they were having. Esme simply didn't understand! It's obvious; Sirius and Remus were gonna end up together because... wolfstar!
"I'm just saying, Rena. I don't think Remus and Sirius are gonna get together. I mean, they're total opposites-"
"And opposites attracts! I knew you would see it my way, Alexi!" Renesmee cut Alexander off, running to hide behind her father who was watching the two in a fondness only fathers would really understand. "Hey, hey, hey! Alex- wait, no-!" Too late. Alex had already tackled her to the floor and was starting to tickle her. Esme's laughter filled the pub, causing on-lookers to smile at her child-like innocence. "Alexi!"
"What, Rena?" Alex asked, a smile spreading across his face as he sat back to let the beautiful angel below him to catch her breath. "What? Was I being too harsh?"
"No, no. It's fine, I just... I need to catch my breath," Renesmee explained, smiling at how concerned Alex was about her well being. "Wait... Where's John and Remus?" Alex stood up, pulling the slightly smaller girl with him as he did so, and looked around. Neither saw the blonde or the brown-haired boys in the vicinity and so they took their search outside, into Diagon Alley.
"They have to be here somewhere, right?" Alex asked after an hour of searching for the two. Esme nodded, scanning the area in panic. "Hey, we'll find them," Alex wrapped Rena in his arms, letting the smaller girl cuddle into him. "I promise you, Rena, we'll find them."
"Alex? Is everything alright?" John's voice asked, seeing the panicked look on his face. Both of the children's heads snapped up at the sound of John's voice, quickly jumping on him and hugging him tightly. "Whoa! What's this for?"
"Where were you, you idiot?" Alex asked, looking at John to see confusion in his eyes. "We looked all over for you. Where were you- Where's Remus?"
"He went to look for his brother... Uh, Philip I think it was?" John replied, trying to remember the name Remus had said before he left. Esme nodded, sighing in relief.
"Yeah. That's our slightly younger brother. Philip tends to get into a bit of trouble so both Remus and I have to keep him in check, I guess you could say. Kind of like James and Sirius, but Philip's easier to control than James and Sirius are." Esme said to John as the trio walked back to the pub where the other eight children were waiting for the girl. Sighing, said girl turned to her new found friends. "I have to go. I'll see you on the train?"
"Yeah, see you then," John said, hugging the girl. "Mei," he whispered as the two pulled away, Esme smiling up at the blonde haired boy. John stood back, smirking, so that Alex could say bye to the angel.
"I'll see you on the train, Rena," Alex whispered as the two hugged tightly. Esme nodded, quickly turning towards her family and heading over to where they sat in the lounge area. Alex and John, after watching Renesmee leave, took their leave to their friend group on the opposite side of the pub. However, both Alex and Esme struggled to focus on anything their friends were saying as their thoughts were filled with the other. Alex couldn't help but think that Renesmee Lang was the angel sent to help him. Esme, on the hand, couldn't help but think that Alexander Hamilton was the soulmate she thought she saw in Sirius Orion Rogers, but now she wasn't so sure. Was it Alexander? Was it Sirius? Or was it neither?
CHAPTER 03
The next day, Renesmee woke up early. Why? Because she was heading to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry today. As she got ready, dressing in a yellow daisy-printed knee-length dress with a pair of white flats and did her hair into a plait, she was suddenly filled with excitement. She was going to Hogwarts, the place her Uncles, Aunts and her Grandparents had talked so much about, telling only good stories about the small British school.
Once she was ready, Esme grabbed her bags and headed down to the pub floor only to be met with her youngest brother, Philip, arguing with one of their two female cousins, Rosalice. "Pippy, leave Rosie alone," Renesmee scolded lightly, Rosalice sending a grateful smile towards the girl as she sat on the arm of the couch. "Morning Harry!" Renesmee called as she saw Harry starting to descend the stairs. Harry waved, looking troubled, and made his way over to the trio.
Once Harry had made his way over, he hugged Esme which surprised her. "Could I talk to you? Preferably alone?" He asked when he had pulled away. Nodding, Esme followed behind Harry in confusion as he guided her to one of the wanted posters. "I needed to get you alone, before Alex or John came down. I have one recommendation for you over this year: don't get in between Alex and John. They like you, both of them do and they don't like you in the best friend way."
"Wait... Both Alex and John like like me?" Renesmee asked, flabbergasted. Harry merely nodded before pointing towards the wanted poster with a picture of the deranged man known as Sirius Orion Black. "What? It's just a mad man. What's Sirius Orion Black got anything to do with this?"
"It's not about the thing I told you about, Esme. It's more..." Harry cleared his throat before continuing, "Arthur Weasley, Ron's dad, pulled me aside yesterday and told me something. Black isn't only out for me, apparently he's out for you as well." Now that confused Esme. Why would Sirius Black be out to get her? How did he even know of her? She wasn't... unless... Did... Was Sirius Black after her Mom, and Arthur mistook the mad man's ideas for Sirius going after her?
"How would Black've heard of me? I was in Brazil, no where near Scotland. How did he know about me?" Renesmee asked, her interest peaked by what Arthur told Harry. Harry merely shrugged, the two of them standing side by side as they looked at the wanted poster of Sirius Black. "I guess I could ask my Uncle Steve. He was friends with Sirius, back in their Hogwarts years. He was also friends with Peter, James, Lily, and Remus."
"You might have to ask him. I don't want you getting hurt, Esme. If-"
"Harry, if push comes to shove you should know that I'm not gonna stand by and watch you, or anyone else I care about, get hurt. I'm gonna step in whether you like it or not." Renesmee said, cutting off the Boy Who Lived. Harry sighed, bowing his head before snapping it up when he heard retreating footsteps. Looking around him, he realized that it was only Renesmee heading over to John and Alex, as well as two other boys he hadn't yet met.
Head my warning please, Esme, for the sake of all of us.
CHAPTER 04
Renesmee smiled, sitting with the Hamilsquad as the group had dubbed themselves. "So," the girl started, sitting between Alex and John. "Alexi, you said that you all went to Ilvermorny for a year or two. If so what house were you all in?" John caught himself getting lost in his thoughts in Renesmee's beauty. Why couldn't he have her? Why did she like Alexander more than she liked him? It was as clear as day, but clearly not so clear to the two of them.
"Well, I was in Horned Serpent." Alex said, passing Esme a jelly bean. Slightly sceptical, she gently plucked it form his open palm and popped it in her mouth. Her face immediately changed, causing Alex to laugh at her expression. "Yeah, not nice are they? What flavour did ya get?"
"Earwax," Renesmee answered, pulling a sour-face which caused Alex to laugh harder. Relaxing her face, Esme giggled at Alex's reaction. "It wasn't that funny, Alexi." Alex merely nodded, laughing harder causing Esme to giggle harder.
"Anyway," Hercules said, sending a worried glance towards Alex who was doubled over in laughter. "I was in Thunderbird house."
"I was in Wampus with John, mon amie," Lafayette replied, smiling at the girl who they could adamantly say was perfect for their group. "What about you, mon amie? Did they have maisons in the Brazilian school of magic?"
"Yeah we have houses in Castelobruxo, but we only have three unlike the four Hogwarts and Ilvermorny have. There's Daulphine which favours ideas, they are also careful and tactical, Remus was sorted into that house. Nobody knows who founded the Daulphine house. Then there's Sylphs which favours the imagination, they are also sly and dreamers. Sylphs was founded by Apollo Sylphs. Then there's the third and final house: Undines. Undines favours mysterious, they are also loyal and supportive which was founded by Roge Undines. I was in the Undines house." Renesmee replied, smiling at the four boys around her.
The group of five laughed until they got to the bridge up in Scotland and decided to get changed into their Hogwarts robes. Once changed, the five sat back down and started laughing all over again for no apparent reason. Renesmee definitely felt more comfortable with these four than she did with her friends and her siblings, but she couldn't understand why.
"You ready?" James whispered to his brother, Sirius, as their siblings and family passed their cousin and/or sister, Renesmee, sending looks of... disgust? her way for what seemed to be no apparent reason.
"Yeah. I bet Renesmee's gonna be in Slytherin. She's a coward like everyone else in that cursed house!" Sirius exclaimed, shoving his younger cousin with his shoulder as he passed. Remus didn't spare her a glance, nor did Tom or Philip or Peter or Harley or Rosalice. Why? What had she done that had wronged them so?
"Come on," Hercules said, wrapping an arm around the smaller one's shoulders and guiding her over to a boat that the other three were already in. "Ignore them. They're dickheads if they can't see how special you are."
"Yeah! I bet those twins will be in Gryffindor, meaning that if any of us get sorted into that house we'll have to put up with them," Alex complained, leaning against the side of the boat. All Esme did was nod, putting her hand in the water as she saw one of the Giant Squid's tentacles.
Why did Remus not do anything? What was so wrong with her sitting with her new friends on their way to Hogwarts? Was that a sin now? They were just overreacting! It's not like she had bloody murdered someone! Sighing with a shake of her head to rid it of the intrusive thoughts, the time seemed to fly by until they were entering the Great Hall for the sorting ceremony. Even that seemed to fly by until it was time for all of them to be sorted.
"Hamilton, Alexander"
"Slytherin!" Suits him, he's willing to do whatever he needs to do to survive.
"Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette"
"Gryffindor!" Suits him, he's brave and courageous.
"Lang, Remus"
"Ravenclaw!" That suits him, he's smart and uses logic above all else.
"Lang, Renesmee"
Renesmee made her way up to the stool in front of the Teachers Table and took a deep breath. Once she sat down, McGonagall gently placed the hat down on the girl's head and everyone waited, some with baited breath as they saw a comparison with a few others who had come before them in her features.
"Hmm, clever. Very clever. Cunning. You're a prankster like your father, yet smart like your mother. Yet you are also brave like your uncle Steve, yet loyal like your uncle Bucky. Where do I place you, however? Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Gryffindor, or Hufflepuff?"
Where ever you see fit, sir
"Obedient, very obedient... Have you been abused, miss?"
I think you already know that, sir
"Yes. You are correct, I do. You're definitely loyal. So neither Slytherin or Gryffindor. But... Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw? Which house, which house?"
I think you already know where to put me, sir. You are just awaiting me to prove you correct before you make a decision so that it doesn't look too sudden
"Intellectual I see... Hmm.... I do have a test for you though... What if I were to put, let's see... what if I were to put a wand to... say... Remus' head?"
Do that, and I'll find a way to rid the world of you myself
Everyone's eyes widened when they saw snow white scales start to shine up the girl's arms, starting at her hands and ending just above her elbow though they couldn't tell that. McGonagall, fearing the child slightly, took a couple steps away from the girl.
Touch anyone in my family and I'll kill you myself, got it? Touch anyone of my friends and I'll destroy you myself, got it?
"Yes, I do," there was no fear in the Sorting Hat's voice, only pride. "Hm.... Now you're showing more Gryffindor signs... I honestly don't have a clue as to where to put you, dear."
If you are struggling, sir, why not save me till last? This way you can do everyone else who is patiently waiting and come back to me after so you may take your time then
"Loyal, self-sacrificing, brave, patient, hard working... hmm... Yet daring, smart, intellectual, and cunning. I know where I'm going to put you."
Where, sir?
"Slyth- Raven- Huffle- Gryffin-"
"Sorting Hat?" Dumbledore asked, concern and confusion on his face. "Is everything alright?"
"No, Albus. This student shows traits for all houses, I am torn between all four."
Why not ask me?
"Very well. What house do you think you would fit in better? Feel more at home in?"
Well, in Ravenclaw I would be able to show my smarts. However, that means people would expect me to stick to the books and I don't think I would be able to deal with that. In Hufflepuff I am among my fellow loyal ones yet I don't think I would feel quite at home. In Gryffindor I can show I am brave and daring, but I would always be classed as a 'coward' because of the fact that people believe it to be a 'simple mask'. In Slytherin I could show my hard work and cunningness, yet I would be classed as a 'Death Eater'. Hm... I think I would like to go to... Hufflepuff. No wait-... Sly-
Renesmee sighed, knowing she was struggling with where she wanted to go. Slytherin or Hufflepuff? No way was she going to Gryffindor, though that was the house her Uncles had gone to... You know what?
Fuck it, Slytherin.
"Slytherin!"
Alexander's cheering was heard over everyone else at the Slytherin table. The boy immediately hugged the girl as she sat down next to him, the two smiling at each other with slight blushes coating their cheeks. Renesmee's family all shared a look as if to say 'I told you so' and 'We are not related to her'. Why was being sorted into Slytherin such a bad thing? It just meant that you were fierce, and that you weren't afraid to do what you needed to do to get ahead (with some restraints, of course).
"Lang, Philip"
"Hufflepuff!" Suits him, he's loyal but... is it really the right house for him?
"Laurens, John"
"Hufflepuff!" Definitely suits John. That boy's loyal to a fault.
"Mulligan, Hercules"
"Gryffindor!" Yep.
"Rogers, James"
"Gryffindor!" Duh.
"Rogers, Sirius"
"Gryffindor!" Of course.
"Rogers, Thomas"
"Slytherin!" Wait, what?! That made no sense!
"Stark, Harley"
"Ravenclaw!" True, Harls was always the smartest out of us nine.
"Stark, Peter"
"Hufflepuff!" Yep, Pete was always the kindest soul in the group. He's also loyal to a fault... or at least I thought he was.
"Stark, Rosalice"
"Slytherin!" Huh? Okay, that makes no sense what so ever!
Once everyone was sorted, Dumbledore stood up to give his speech. Once he had and he'd sat down, everyone dug in to the feast set in front of them. Everyone, but Renesmee. Why? Because her cousin would tell the others and she'd get bullied because of it. "Aren't you going to eat?" A girl with dark skin and curly hair who was sat next to her asked seeing as the girl wasn't eating. Esme shrugged before shaking her head, itching her arm as the scales started to irritate her skin.
"Hey, what's up with your hands?" Another boy asked, looking at the girl's arms. Esme again shook her head, clenching her fists. The girl from before realised what was going on and gently rubbed her shoulder.
"Don't worry, I'm a prefect. Once we finish up with getting everyone to the correct dorms I'll show you somewhere you can go and just relax in that form of yours, 'kay?" The girl whispered, subtly gesturing to Esme's white scaling hands. "I'm Angelica, Angelica Schuyler."
"R-Renesmee Lang," Renesmee replied, not lifting her head up as her fangs would show. She may have retractable teeth but hell no was she retracting them in human form. Angelica smiled, side-hugging the girl who she already wanted to protect with her entire being. And she knew she would, no matter what.
CHAPTER 05
Once Angelica had showed everyone to their dorms and where to go, she quickly guided Renesmee to the grounds and pointed to the Whomping Willow the girl's Uncle Remus had told her about. Esme smiled, allowing herself to transform into Starlight - who was her dragon counter part. Hearing a gasp from behind her, Esme quickly turned around only to see Angelica and... Alexander?!
"Woah..." Alex whispered, eyes wide in astonishment. "C-Could I... Could I study you sometime, Rena? No, wait- Oh God, I'm sorry! I didn't mean for it to sound like that! I- Ugh! Phrasing, Alex, you know you need to work on that! Heh, sorry, Rena." Esme simply gave a chuff before making her way over to him, sitting in front of him. When he didn't do anything she gently nudged him with her forepaw and saw realization dawn on his face. "Oh!"
Angelica laughed, coming over and gently picking Alex up and placing him on her back. "There you go. Be back in 30." Angelica warned the two. Esme nodded before taking off, Alex yelping in shock as he hugged Starlight around her neck. Coward, she thought to herself as they flew around Hogwarts grounds.
As they flew above the Black Lake, Alex loosened his grip on the dragon's neck and sat up straight, albeit he was a little hesitant at first. "Woah... The Black Lake is beautiful at night," the boy whispered softly, smiling as Starlight slowed down so that he could take in their surroundings. Just like Angelica had said, the two were back in 30 and were looking for their Slytherin Prefect. "Where is she?"
"If you looked," a voice said from behind them, causing Starlight and Alex to turn around. Starlight's eyes scanned the area, crouching low as a Plasma Blast readied in her throat, "you would see that I was behind you the entire time." Starlight relaxed as Angelica came out of the shadows. "Renesmee, transform and then we can head back to the Common Room. Got it?" Alex and Starlight nodded, Starlight quickly transforming back into Renesmee.
"What do you call that form? Since it's, like, not exactly you, what do you call the... animal counter part of you? Dragon counter part?" Alex asked as the trio were walking back to the Slytherin Common Room. Renesmee smiled, pointing to the tattoo on her forearm, where the Dark Mark would be. On her forearm was a small circle, though it wasn't an actual circle. It was the name 'Starlight' repeated three times to create a circle, with a date in the middle; 04/28/14. "Starlight?" Esme nodded again. "And the date?"
"The date I was rescued from Hy- from an abusive... from an abusive orphanage with my sister who didn't make it," Renesmee replied, recovering the tattoo. No one in her family knew she had it and she planned to keep it that way. She had been rescued from the Hydra base on the 28th of April back in 2014.
"But... How are you still alive if you were rescued in 1914?" Angelica asked, walking on the other side of Esme. Glancing at the date, she saw that it was glowing slightly. Not by much, but enough for someone to notice if they looked at it properly. Pulling her sleeve back, the date had changed. Instead of 04/28/14 it now said 04/28/80. "Oh. I guess we just glanced at it too quickly, Alex." Angelica said, waving a dismissive hand as Renesmee recovered the tattoo. Alex nodded in agreement, the trio lapsing into a comfortable silence as they continued to the Slytherin Common Room. Once there, Angelica turned to the two Third Years. "You two best get to bed, classes start tomorrow. You'll get your schedules from Professor Snape tomorrow in the Great Hall so see you in the morning. Also, you can eat with me and my friend tomorrow. See ya." With that Angelica disappeared into the Seventh Year Girl Dormitories.
Once Angelica had disappeared through the door to the Girl Dormitories, Alex turned to Renesmee. "I'll see you tomorrow?" He asked, scratching the back of his neck. Smiling with a slight blush decorating her cheeks, Esme nodded. In a fit of sudden courage, she stood on her tip toes to kiss his cheek before rushing to the girls passage to the dormitories.
"Buenas noches, Alexander Hamilton," Renesmee whispered before disappearing into the passage and headed to her dormitory.
"Buenas noches, Renesmee Lang," Alexander whispered before he, too, disappeared into the passage to the Boys Dormitories and headed to his dormitory.
CHAPTER 06
Renesmee woke up to sun shining through the dormitory window which shone through the Black Lake. Sitting up in her bed, Renesmee gave a soft sigh as she remembered waking up back at the Hydra base, back in 2014. Nothing would help her to forgot, no matter how many therapy meetings she had with the Avenger family's resident therapist - Sam Wilson.
"You best get dressed and ready," a girl said, pointing to the outfit she was wearing. Nodding slightly, Renesmee stood up and headed to the bathroom where she got changed into her Third Year Slytherin robes. Looking down at the silver and green tie in her hands, the young adopted daughter of Scott and Hope Lang couldn't fight back the memories of what Hydra had done to her and Stark's kids.
It was another day at the Hydra base, everything was normal. Well, as normal as you could get in a place where they torture kids from the simple ages of three up until they're at least 18. Then, and only then, are they allowed to leave unless they had been rescued before or they had been killed through the merciless torture that Hydra was well-known for.
"Get up, Subject 505!" a guard stationed outside of a cell barked at the young girl laying lifeless on the bed. Subject 505. That's who she was now, not who she had been called since she was born; Renesmee. No, she was Subject 505, there was no Renesmee anymore. Why? Because Hydra said so. It also didn't help that they made sure the young girl obeyed one rule above all else; what Hydra says goes.
Sitting up in the bed - which was more like a slab of stone - and heaving a soft sigh, Subject 505 watched the guard with slightly narrowed eyes as she opened the door for someone to enter. Subject 505 tensed upon seeing the person who had entered the room. This man would be the cause of many of the girl's nightmares in the future, much to the horror and anger of the Avengers. This man was known as The Doctor in this certain Hydra Base.
"Good morning, Subject 505. How are you this fine morning?" The Doctor asked, grabbing a whip and burning iron from the tray that was situated just outside the door. When she didn't answer, The Doctor smirked. "I see you remember your punishment for talking, eh?" Subject 505 nodded, knowing it was wrong to talk. She would get punished for talking.
Would she have gotten punished for talking during classes here at Hogwarts? Would everything be easier? Or was she expected to keep her mouth shut unless spoken to? What was the worst punishment that could happen? Luckily, the young girl wouldn't have to go through that. Not yet, at least.
Subject 505 bit back her scream that threatened to rip through her throat as the burning iron was slammed down onto her back, scorching three words into her back that reminded her of everything she had been through in this base; 'Property of HYDRA'.
Nothing the young girl did would make the scar go away. She was stuck with the constant reminder that she was property of Hydra, and her number which was scorched onto her chest; 'Subject 505'.
Shaking the memory of the torture from her head, Renesmee quickly tied her hair up and placed her tie around her neck - doing it up - before heading down to the Great Hall where she met Angelica and Alex. "Morning, Renesmee!" Alex greeted, smiling at the usually talkative girl. Renesmee tried to muster a smile but simply couldn't get the muscles in her cheeks to pull her lips into a small smile.
Peter Stark saw this and felt his heart shatter when he realized that his former sister's memories of their time at Hydra was weighing her down. Turning around to look for his brother, the young spiderling found him and motioned towards the table decked out in silver and green. Harley Stark looked in the direction his brother was looking and saw the look on his former sister's face, much like Peter had. Nodding, the duo got up from their seats at the tables decked out in bronze and blue and yellow and black and headed to the table decked out in silver and green.
"What's a Hufflepuff and a Ravenclaw like the two of you doing here at the Slytherin table?" Thomas Jefferson, a Fourth Year Slytherin, asked snottily as he grinned at the two younger boys.
Both boys ignored him and turned to look at Renesmee, who met their eyes. As Harley and Renesmee's eyes connected, a simple plea rang through them; 'help me. I don't wanna suffer in silence, but I don't know what to do'.
"C'mon," Peter spoke up, gently wrapping an arm around the smaller girl's shoulders as they walked out of the Great Hall, Harley following behind them with Rosalice at his side. Once they had left the Great Hall they soon made it to the shore of the black Lake. Both boys stood at the water's edge whilst the girls sat at the shore, watching the waves ripple. "What's wrong, Ness?"
"I just... I don't think I can do this anymore..." Renesmee whispered, pulling her legs up to her chest as pain rang through her chest as she thought back on everything that had happened to her. Everyone said she forgot about her past but she didn't, she never had. She just wanted to get a new start but that never seemed to work out for anyone, huh?
"Can't do what anymore?" Harley asked, crouching beside his little sister. Even if she was no longer his little sister by law and adoption wise, she was his little sister in everything but blood. End of story. "What can't you do anymore, Renes?"
"Everything," whispered Renesmee as a tear slowly trickled down her cheek. "I want Mom and Dad."
Peter and Harley shared a glance, feeling the usual pull they always did whenever Renesmee spoke about her dad being Scott and her mom being Hope. "We can ask Dumbledore how to talk to Scott and Hope-"
"That's not what I meant," Renesmee cut Harley off, looking up at her older brother with eyes that showed how terrified she truly was. "I want Tony and Pepper, I want Mom and Dad."
CHAPTER 07
"That's not what I meant," Renesmee cut Harley off, looking up at her older brother with eyes that showed how terrified she truly was. "I want Tony and Pepper, I want Mom and Dad."
~
Peter, Harley, and Rosalice's hearts immediately stopped when their younger sister had said that. She didn't want Scott and Hope - her legal mother and father - she wanted Pepper and Tony - her former legal mother and father. "We-We'll see what we can do, Renes. I promise you, we'll get to talk to Mom and Dad soon." Rosalice promised, hugging her younger twin sister close to her and pressing a kiss to the top of her head full of chocolate brown hair.
Peter and Harley soon joined the hug as sobs started to echo around them, signalling that everything was weighing their younger sister down far too much. "We need to speak with Dumbledore, see if we can go see Mom and Dad and the others for a bit. All of this is getting too stressful for her," Harley commented, rubbing Renesmee's back comfortingly. The other two nodded before the four children of Stark headed to Albus Dumbledore's office.
"Lemon Drops," Rosalice said the password to the gargoyle that guarded the Headmaster's office. Watching it jump to the side, they quickly rushed up the steps to his office and knocked on the door, receiving a clear 'come in' from the man. The four entered, greeting the man with soft smiles.
"What do I owe the pleasure of the company of four of Stark's children?" Dumbledore asked, clasping his hands together atop of the desk.
"Sir, we need to get home. Back to our time," Peter explained whilst Harley kept his arm around Renesmee's shoulders securely. "We need to see our parents in person and we don't have any way to contact them. If we're supposed to be here for a whole academic year, we need some way of contacting our parents."
"Yes, of course," Dumbledore murmured to the young superhero, "Does this have to do with Renesmee's memories?" The three nodded, Renesmee just hiding her face in her older brother's chest as tears came to her eyes as she remembered every torture method they used on her and her siblings. "I know exactly how to contact your parents and alert them that you will be returning. Do you wish for me to alert Scott and Hope?"
"No," Renesmee's timid voice spoke up, clutching Harley's shirt in her fists. Nodding, Albus quickly grabbed his wand and casted a spell towards the fire-place in his office. Motioning for the four to come closer to said fire-place, he started to speak.
"You have a week," the old man spoke to the four third years, "Use this time wisely. I suggest you inform Scott and Hope of Renesmee's memories coming back. Good luck you four." Nodding their thanks to the Headmaster, they quickly stepped into the fire-place and felt themselves being pulled into the one situated in the Common House.
-
Anthony Edward Stark was not expecting four people to randomly pop out of the fire-place. When they appeared, he swore he had a heart attack. Deep breath in, deep breath out, the man thought to himself as the green smoke cleared to show Renesmee, Rosalice, Peter, and Harley.
"Renes? Rosa? Pete? Harls? What are you four doing back so soon- oof!" Tony was cut off by Renesmee tackling the man in a hug, sobbing into his chest. Eyes wide, he gingerly hugged the girl back. "Renes? What's wrong, kiddo?"
"It-It hurts, Dad," the girl whimpered, trying to hide in her father's chest and arms. Tony's heart broke immediately, knowing that his child was hurting and there was nothing he could do about it except holding her tighter. So that's what he did; Tony held his daughter as tight as he could without hurting her, allowing her to curl up in his lap once he had sat down on the couch across from the fire-place with Harley leaning on the couch behind him, Rosalice sat with her back against his crossed legs, and Peter curled into his side whilst Pepper stood beside the man with concern shining in her eyes for their daughter. They stayed like that for a while until Renesmee had finally fallen asleep just as Scott and Hope came up the stairs.
"T-Tony? Pepper? Why is our daughter wrapped up in you arms?" Hope asked, panic coursing through her entire being as she realized what this could mean. 1) Renesmee was just tired and decided to sleep on the closest person she could find which was Tony, or 2) Renesmee remembered everything and didn't want Scott and Hope to be her parents anymore. Hope really hoped that it was the former and not the latter.
"She remembers," Pepper spoke softly, knowing it would be hard on the two parents. "She called Tony 'Dad'. I'm sorry, Scott."
Scott's world came crashing down as he realized what this meant. Renesmee was going to be a Stark again instead of living the rest of her life as a Lang, the man thought with a pang of grief. Scott should have been prepared, knowing it would have happened one day. Renesmee was always destined to be a Stark, not a Lang, or a Rogers, or a Cullen. He really should have known, should have been prepared. But why does it hurt so much?
"It's fine," Scott replied, shaking off the grief he felt for his... for losing the ability to call Renesmee his daughter. Now he had to stomach seeing her call Tony 'Dad', call Pepper 'Mom', call Peter, Georgie, and Harley her 'brothers', and stomach her calling Morgan and Rosalice her 'sisters' even though it hurt. "We'll leave you guys to it." With that, Hope and Scott left without another word.
Tony and Pepper shared a glance before turning back to their first adopted child. Renesmee's fists were clenching her father's shirt in her fists, tears staining her cheeks causing Tony to sigh. "Why don't we get you lot to your room? How long do you have before Dumbledore said you had to return?" Pepper asked gently, rubbing Harley's shoulders.
"We have a week," Harley replied as they headed towards the shared bedroom the Stark Children all shared. Opening the door, they were met with Morgan and Georgie fast asleep in their shared bed. Pepper smiled softly, tucking the duvet around the two youngest children of Stark before watching as Tony placed Renesmee in her old bed, tucking her in, and gently placing the stuffed Iron Man doll - which he had gotten her when they had first adopted her - under her arm. Pepper also watched as Peter, Harley, and Rosalice gently slipped under their covers and slowly fell into the land known as Dreamland.
With a soft smile on their faces, both Pepper and Tony left the room and headed to the Common Room where everyone was now gathered for 'Adult Movie Night'. Life was good in the House of Stark.
CHAPTER 08
Renesmee grinned as she beat Peter in Mario Kart once more. Peter seemed to be really bad at Mario Kart, even with his spider-like abilities, Renesmee thought to herself as she sent a red shell towards the boy's car. Let's just say it met its target... Again. "C'mon, just admit it," Rosalice taunted, grinning like her twin was. "You suck at Mario Kart, Pete."
"Do one, Rose!" Peter snapped playfully, concentrating to try and knock Renesmee off the map only to fail horrendously by getting himself knocked off. Peter's situation was met by rounds of laughter between his three other siblings. Harley sighed in mock disappointment at his brother's ability... or lack of therefore in Mario Kart. "Fine. Rosie's right, I suck at Mario Kart."
"I'll take that!" Rosalice exclaimed, taking a $5 bill from Harley's hands as he handed it over to her. "I told you not to make the bet, big brother!"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Harley grumbled before smiling as Morgan and Georgie, the four Stark Children's younger brother and sister, ran into the room. "What's up, you two?"
"Daddy said that it was time for you guys to go back to Hogwarts," Georgie told them, climbing onto Renesmee's lap. It had already been a week? Wow... Time seemed to have flown by for the group of four. "We don't want you guys to go. We want you guys to stay here! Please?"
"Sorry, Georgie," Renesmee apologised, holding her baby brother close to her chest, "But we have to go back. It's a mission we were given to by Director Fury. We have to complete it, sorry, bud." Georgie and Morgan both groaned, hugging their older sister tightly. "Think of it this way; when we get back, we'll be able to spend all the time in the world together. How does that sound?" That got the two excited.
"Morgan, Georgie, did you tell them?" the group's mother, Pepper Potts, asked as she entered the room. Morgan and Georgie nodded in response, pouting slightly at the idea of their siblings having to go back to Scotland and the fact that they're having to go to a different time than what they were in. "You four go see your father before you leave, alright?" The four children nodded and rushed off to say goodbye to their father after they turned off the Wii U.
"Dad?" Rosalice asked as the four entered Tony's lab that the four usually worked in. "We came to say goodbye." Tony's eyes widened before looking at the time on his screen.
"It's already been a week?" Tony was surprised at that. It felt like only yesterday the group of four had come home, Renesmee running into his arms and sobbing her poor little heart out. Shaking his head to rid it of that scene, Tony pulled all four of the kids in for a hug. "Be good, alright? I don't want Old Dumble contacting me and saying that the four of you are causing trouble, got it?"
"We got it, Dad, relax," Harley chuckled, pulling away from the group hug and wrapping an arm around Rosie's shoulders as Peter wrapped his arm around Renesmee's. "We'll be back before you know it. Plus, you can owl us."
"True, true," Tony admitted, ruffling his eldest son's hair. "You lot better get going. Old Dumble only gave you, what? A week?"
"Yeah. Love you Dad!" called the group of four before they all headed to the fireplace and grabbed some floo powder. "Dumbledore's Office!" A green flash was seen before it disappeared. Looking around, they saw that they were, luckily, in Dumbledore's office with said Headmaster sat at his desk, a knowing glint in his eyes.
"Well?" the old wizard asked the four children of Stark. "Did it go well?"
"Yeah," Harley replied, rolling his shoulders back as he did so. "Morgan and Georgie, as well as Mom and Dad, appreciated the week-long visit. We couldn't see our aunts or uncles since some of them were on missions and some were in Wakanda for the week. Apparently Uncle T'Challa called and had a surprise for Uncle Bucky and Uncle Steve."
"Shuri came over on Wednesday and the five of us had some fun," Rosalice informed, sitting on the steps with Renesmee whilst Peter and Harley leaned against the pillars whilst Professor Dumbledore leaned against his desk. "However, she had to leave on Friday to attend whatever was happening in Wakanda."
"Understandable," Albus murmured gently before picking up four pieces of paper from his desk. "Here are your timetables. Have the rest of today free, but tomorrow you're going to have to attend classes. Understood?"
"Yes sir," they replied before thanking the headmaster and heading towards the Black Lake to relax for the day.
"Remember that time we pranked Uncle Bucky? Back in '17?" Peter asked, skipping a rock across the surface of the Black Lake. His siblings nodded, smiling as they remembered the prank they had pulled on him.
~
Bucky was just sat by the lake, watching the middle island as waves gently lapped at its shores. He was utterly distracted and didn't notice the four kids creeping up on him until it was too late. "We got him! Run!" Peter Stark, Tony and Pepper Stark's second oldest child, shouted as he and his three siblings ran off with laughter.
Bucky shook his head with a fond smile planted on his face, water droplets falling into his lap as he did so. Those kids were a handful, but the whole team loved 'em. No one could find a flaw with their little pranks nor could they stay mad at them. Shame Stark did what he did, it would have been funny to see the many pranks they'd pull on him if they knew the man was their father. Oh, the fun those four would have with that man...
~
"Do you think... Do you think he knew about what Dad did?" Renesmee questioned, looking up at her older siblings. The three of them shrugged in response, the question invading their minds ever so slightly.
Did Bucky know about what Tony did? Did any of the Avengers know? Or was it just the original six Avengers, plus Rhodey and Pepper? None could remember if any of the other Avengers were with them when it happened or if it was just the OGs. I guess only time would tell.
CHAPTER 09
Today was a Thursday, and the four Stark siblings were finally starting their studies. "Today will be interesting," Alex noted as he sat next to Renesmee at the Slytherin table. Renesmee hummed in agreement, looking at her timetable to see her lessons for the day.

Seems alright, I guess. Glancing across the hall, she saw that she would have Rose in her first class; DADA. Collecting her things, Renesmee stood up and headed towards the doors to the Great Hall where she met up with Peter, Harley, and Rose. "What do you two have first?" Rose asked as Peter wrapped an arm around Renesmee's shoulders protectively.
"We've got charms with Professor Flitwick," Harley replied. "What about you two? What do you have?"
"We've got Defence Against the Dark Arts with Un- Professor Lupin." Rose had to catch herself before she called the man she knew as her uncle 'Uncle Remus'. "I hate not being able to call him Uncle Rem, ya know?"
"I get what you mean," Rena agreed. "That, and the fact that we have to act like we don't know our Aunts and Uncles. It's a real big bummer."
"Maybe it's a good thing," Peter noted before he thought about it. "Ya know what? Never mind, it really isn't. I can see the implications ("Where the hell did you learn to use big words?!" Harley exclaimed.) of what you two mean."
"I'm sorry, is no one gonna comment about the fact that Peter - who is notoriously known as the dense sibling - knows a big word? Where the fudge nuggets did you learn that?!" Harley exclaimed as the group of four separated into two groups of two.
Rose and Rena glanced at each other before rolling their eyes. "Boys," they both sighed, exasperated. Giggling at their brother's actions, the two girls sat with their backs against the wall to their next classroom and started to talk.
"Do you ever think Uncle Nick might do something to us?" Rose asked, out of the blue. Rena glanced down at her hands that sat in her lap, remembering all the times that she had to kill someone for no reason except that they were an 'enemy of Hydra' or if they were a 'threat to Hydra's legacy'. "Ren? You do, don't you? I'm not just crazy, right?"
"No, you're not crazy, Rose," Rena confirmed, not lifting her gaze from her hands. "It's just... all the people we were forced to kill, being tortured if we tried to break free from their control... It just makes me wonder if we'll ever be free, ya know? Or are we just stuck like this?"
"You didn't answer my question,"
"Right," Rena took a deep breath, looking up at her twin. "I... don't think he will, but a part of me also believes that, if we give him reason to, he would. He can't always keep tabs on us, and to him we're classed as 'dangerous'. I just... I wish it were different but he wouldn't know that, would he? He honestly doesn't care if we get hurt and I know that might sound a bit morbid coming from a thirteen-year-old but, let's face it, he doesn't. When has he ever cared about us getting hurt?"
"True," Rose agreed before a calm silence settled over them. The door to the classroom started to open, causing both girls to stand still with their backs painfully straight before they remembered they weren't at any Hydra base anymore, they were at Hogwarts. They were 'safe'.
"Ah, you two are rather early," their professor, Professor Lupin, greeted as he stepped out of the classroom. "You two head in and put your bags to the side, we're doing something a little different today." Both nodded and headed in, their shoulders tense at the man's wording. They kept having to remind themselves that this wasn't their 'Uncle Rem', and that this was their Professor Remus John Lupin.
"I'm not the only one getting creepy vibes from that cupboard, right?" Rose asked beneath her breath as she passed her sister, placing their satchels at the back of the classroom. Rena shook her head, suppressing a shiver. "Okay, good. I'm not insane quite yet."
"I think we're about to go insane, Rose," Rena replied in the same tone - one full of caution, one used by a trained assassin. "See any immediate escape routes, just in case?"
"Eh, the window kinda. But only if you have enough time to transform into SL and I doubt you would if worse comes to worse."
"Any way to alert Peter and Harley? Ya know, in case worse comes to worse?"
Rose glanced around before looking at her wand. "Wands?" she suggested, standing next to her twin as their other classmates started to filter in. "I'm counting 29, you?"
"29, 30 if we count RL," Rena replied, not taking her eyes off the door where the students were filtering in. Rose nodded, glaring at Draco Malfoy who was trying to get closer to the two girls. Both were snapped out of their weird behaviour - at least, weird to their classmates - when Professor Lupin descended form his stairwell.
"Good morning, Class. Books away, we won't be needing them today. However," Lupin spoke, standing in front of the class of thirty-one students. "We will be needing our wands." The students put away their things, grabbed their wands, and stood in front of Lupin. "Good. Today we are going to learn about the boggart and how to defend yourself if you were to ever encounter one. Does anyone know what a boggart is?" Rose and Rena glanced at each other, eyes widening. Shit.
What do we do, Ren?
I don't know.
A boggart shows your worst fear. If it gets to our turn, we're both doomed.
Worst fear...
HYDRA.
More specifically, Lucifer.
You two know that this isn't private, right? It's between all four of us?
I think they know, Harls.
Anyway, what's up with you two? I can smell your panic from all the way over here!
Well, Harley, we're learning about boggarts today. And do you know what a boggart shows?
Their mind-link was silent for a moment before both Peter and Harley replied.
Shit.
What do we do? If one of you see him, you'll go into a panic.
It's the same for all of us, Peter, not just Rose and I.
I know, I know.
He just means how are me and him gonna get to you if it comes to the worse?
And how will we even alert you?
I mean, Harls said he could smell our panic meaning he could smell our fear as well, right?
Possibly.
Shit, shit, shit. This isn't good!
What? Rose, what?
Rem wants Rena to go first.
Fuck. Rena, please don't think of him.
Can't promise anything, guys.
"Don't be shy," Lupin spoke, snapping the two out of their conversation. Sharing a glance, Rena made her way towards the front but made sure to keep the panic from her face. Emotion was a sign of weakness, and she wasn't allowed to show weakness.
Think of... Think of Dad getting drunk and basically becoming Howard. Please!
I'll try.
"Now, what scares you the most?"
Rena tried to calm her racing heart for a moment before she answered. "M-My dad turning into my g-grandpa."
Just keep thinking about that whilst we figure something out.
Right.
"Do you have an image of your grandfather? And your father?" Lupin asked, standing behind the young girl. Rena nodded, shoulders tensing when he stood directly behind her. Lupin noticed this and shifted to her side so that she could still see him. "Alright, when you're ready. And remember; ridikulus." Rena shut her eyes, taking a deep breath.
Ridikulus. Ridikulus. Ridikulus. Grandpa. Grandpa. Grandpa. Dad. Dad. Dad.
Opening them, she stood still as Lupin opened the cupboard door with his wand, the boggart shifting to what she most feared. Rena immediately tensed.
No, no, no, no, no!
Rena! Calm down! You're panic feeds a boggart, making it stronger!
Ren! Calm down!
Deep breaths, little sis.
Guys... I'm sorry.
Rena, what do you mean?
Sis?
Neither girl replied.
CHAPTER 10
Harley almost gagged as the fear smell wafted towards his nostrils. "Peter," Harley started, glancing towards their Professor. "Something happened. Their fear scent is... It's sickly, Pete."
"What do we do, then? Is there-" Peter was cut off by ringing starting in their ears. Both grimaced, covering their slightly delicate ears. After the experiments that were used on them when they were under Lucifer's control, they found out that their ears - all except George, Morgan, and Bucky - were very delicate.
"Peter? Harley? You two good?" Luna Lovegood, a fellow 3rd Year Ravenclaw student, asked, but neither could hear her. Luna asked again which drew the attention of Flitwick. "Professor, I think something's happening to these two. They won't respond to my question and I don't think they can hear, either."
Suddenly, Headmaster Dumbledore's voice was heard going through the school. Peter and Harley calmed slightly, the ringing starting to subside when, with a single word, it came back full force making the two groan in pain.
"Students, please cover your ears. Do not uncover them unless told otherwise."
Rena? Rose? You two good?
We're... okay-ish. Rena can't respond.
Why? What happened to her?
He happened. Boggarts can't talk, right?
No, they can't.
Well... It's him, he's here. Grandpa Albus is on his way and he's alerted Dad and Uncle Steve. They're on their way over.
Can you calm her down? Her fear scent is making me feel kinda icky.
That's just it. I can't go anywhere near her, nobody can.
Have you tried?
Yes, multiple times. Nothing's working. He did something to her.
Harley and Peter both let out low growls when Rose told them that.
When I get my hands on him, he's dead.
I agree with you, Peter.
Can he die though? I mean, his name is literally Lucifer.
Name of the devil.
True, but we can make him feel pain, right?
Yeah.
Suddenly, the ringing increased which caused the four Stark children to groan in pain, clasping their hands over their ears. With one last, insistent ring, it stopped. Just like that. Uncovering their ears tentatively, the four looked around. Peter and Harley noticed that they were still in Charms, but everyone had their eyes closed and ears covered. They looked dead with how still they were being. Rena and Rose noticed that they were still in DADA, but everyone had their eyes closed and ears covered. They also looked dead with how still they were being.
"Rose? What's going on?" Rena asked, standing up and walking towards her sister. Rose shrugged, tapping Harry on his arm but got no response from the man. "Did... Did I do this?"
"No," Rose replied, immediately. "No, you didn't do this. He was here, and we all know what happens when he's involved." Rose's words were sincere, but that didn't stop the whirlwind of guilt that floated around her stomach. "Hey, look at me. It wasn't your fault, okay? Whatever he got you to do was his doing, not yours."
"You know how you asked if Fury would do anything to us?" Rena asked, glancing around the room. "I think he might have a reason to do something to me." Without thinking, Rose wrapped her arms around the smaller brunette.
"If he does something to you, he does it to the both of us."
If he does something to the two of you, he does it to the two of us, too.
Thanks, Pete.
We're here for ya, sis.
Soon, the door of the classroom opened to reveal Shield personnel as well as their Dad, Uncle Steve, Professor Dumbledore, and Director Fury. "What happened here?" Fury demanded, glaring at the two cowering girls before him. Steve had to restrain Tony from jumping in to defend the two of them.
"We were learning about boggarts, and boggarts show your worst fear. Professor Lupin wanted me to go first, and I did. But... it didn't go as planned. We all agreed to try and get the boggart to turn into a certain thing, but it didn't work. He appeared. I don't remember anything after that except looking around and seeing everyone frozen with their eyes sealed shut and ears covered." Rena informed, messing with the cuff of her cloak.
"Wait, you didn't hear the ringing?" Rose asked, shocked.
Rena turned to her, confusion shinning in her eyes. "Ringing? What ringing?" If either girl had looked at their Director's face, they would have seen a look that simply read 'oh shit'.
"I'd like to know myself," Tony said, breaking out of Steve's restraints and standing protectively in front of his two girls. "Did Peter and Harley hear it?"
Can you two come to the DADA classroom? We kinda need ya.
We're on our way.
"Peter and Harley can tell you themselves, they're on their way." Rena told him, not looking anyone in the eyes. Tony noticed this and gently brought the girl in for a comforting hug.
"I'm not mad, just worried, sweetie," Tony murmured softly, pulling Rose into his arms as well. That was when the door opened to reveal a grimacing Peter and Harley. "You two alright?"
"Yeah," Harley replied before turning to look at Rose. "Do you hear it as well?"
"Yeah. Do you hear the ringing now, Ren?"
"Unfortunately, I do." Rena grumbled, trying to shrink away from whatever she and her siblings were hearing.
"We'll need to take them into Shield for questioning-"
"No." Tony snapped, cutting Nick off. "I'm not letting you question my children. Nick, they're kids-"
"-kids who have done so much wrong in this world, Stark."
"But they're still kids. You didn't take Bucky in for questioning."
"Because he proved himself on a mission."
"So you're saying, just because my kids haven't been on any missions previously, they aren't to be trusted?"
"Exactly."
Tony was mortified. Nick didn't trust his kids because of their past, yet he trusted Bucky?! Bucky had done so much worse than what Peter, Harley, Rose, and Rena had done! Did Nick really not trust his kids? They're just fucking kids! Plus, he sent them on this mission knowing that this would hap-...
That motherfucking bastard.
"You set them up," Tony whispered, head bowed, into the silent room. Nick glanced at him from where he was talking to Maria Hill in a hushed voice. Tony raised his head to glare at the man who had been his uncle figure in his childhood. "You set them up on this mission, knowing that they would fail and make a mistake. And when they did, you would take them into Shield for 'questioning' but you were really going to test on them! You're a cunning, motherfucking bastard, Fury!"
"Is this true, Director? Is this what the plan was from the beginning?" Steve asked, face slack from shock before it hardened in anger and disgust when Nick simply replied with a simple 'mhm'. "They're children! They're thirteen, they deserve to live their lives! Not let it be wasted away by being trapped in a fucking lab, being tested on everyday! They've already had enough of that!"
Fury ignored them, and instead turned to the Shield personnel he had brought with him and simply said "Take them" before he walked out of the room.
"Dad!" Rosalice, Renesmee, Peter, and Harley exclaimed as the Shield personnel, lead by Hill, put on special cuffs that were made for them. When they were put on Renesmee's wrists, everyone unfroze almost immediately. "Dad, please!"
Tony bowed his head, tears streaming down his cheeks as his kids were taken from him once again. Why did life hate him? "You're not gonna fight him?" Steve asked, shocked and mortified Tony was letting Shield steal four of his kids. "Tony, you're just gonna let Nick walk all over you like that?! I'm ashamed of you, Stark. Those kids are gonna become lab rats again, and you just fucking let it happen!?! I question how you became a father, Stark, I really do." Steve shook his head in disgust before leaving the classroom, leaving Tony with a room full of students who had seen him let a government branch take his children away.
"Don't touch my sisters, you assholes!" the distant shout of Peter protecting his sisters made Tony's heart shatter into a million pieces. Steve was right, Tony should have fought the man instead of letting him take his kids from their family, but he didn't. He just let the man do what he thought was right, even if it hurt him to do so.
"We'll never forgive you, Stark!" was the last thing he heard from both Harley and Peter before their cries were silenced as the tranquilizers finally kicked in. I'm sorry, I'm so fucking sorry. Tony left with Albus, guilt eating away at him inside.
How was he going to tell this to his fellow Avengers? This was the second time he'd fucked up now. How many more times until his kids decided they wanted nothing to do with the man? Until anyone decided they wanted nothing to do with him? In short, Anthony Edward Stark fucked up. Again.
EPILOGUE 1
The Director of Shield, Nicholas Joseph "Nick" Fury, smiled sadly down at where Peter Benjamin Parker-Stark, Harley Keener-Stark, Rosalice Stark, and Renesmee Stark were resting on four beds. It was time. Looking over to where Maria Hill was waiting patiently, Fury held up five fingers. Five more minutes. Hill nodded in understanding.
Harley and Peter growled - ever protective of their sisters - as their ex-Director entered the room they had been put in for the 'time being', as Agent Coulson had told them before he left, saying he would 'miss them when it was time'. It left the four rather confused. Glancing towards the camera that was streaming live-feed to the Avengers so that they knew these kids would be safe, Nick turned his attention back to the four kids before him.
"What are you gonna do to us?" Harley asked, pure fear in his voice. Fury stood with his hands behind his back, fingers at the ready to order Hill to press the button.
"You four have suffered enough, don't you think?" Fury asked, head bowed as he remembered everything these poor, poor souls had to go through. "Have you ever wanted to just... end it all?" They shared a glance, confused. What did he mean 'suffered enough' and 'end it all'? "You've been through enough pain, enough tampering with your minds, enough torture. Why would you want to go through that again?" Fury clicked his fingers, signalling Maria to hit the button. Music started to play into the room.
"Just Sleep, just Dream
Just Sleep, just Dream
Just Sleep, just Dream
In the back of my mind
I was trying to chase a monster this whole time
But I couldn't see
The monster was me
And no one heard our cries
Now I've run out of tears
The time's come for me to disappear
Get me out of this mess
And away from this stress
Set me free so I can rest!
We're only kids who lost our way
But if we wait long enough then we'll be saved"
Tears filled their eyes as they heard those two lines; we're only kids who lost our way but if we wait long enough then we'll be saved.
"Just Sleep, just Dream
This isn't fair
No we're not just what we seem
We want to fly
But our souls are trapped inside"
Fury watched their expressions, seeing utter despair and nostalgia on their faces. They've thought these words before. Maybe not worded exactly like this song has, but they have thought words similar to these ones once - maybe twice, thrice, a couple hundred times maybe? - before.
"It's not a game not to play
For fools who hide
Just Sleep, just Dream
It's only a nightmare
And soon we'll be set free
And I'm cryin' out for help
I know I'm blind but I mean well
Can you see my disguise
I'm different inside
Can you break this spell
Now the ghosts from before
Their knocking
And breakin' down the door
So please set us free
You have the key
'Cause I can't take the pain no more
We're only kids who lost our way
But if we wait long enough then we'll be saved
Just Sleep, just Dream
This isn't fair
No we're not just what we seem
We want to fly
But our souls are trapped inside
It's not a game not to play
For fools who hide
Just Sleep, just Dream
It's only a nightmare
And soon we'll be set free
We're only kids who lost our way
But if we wait long enough then we'll be saved
Just Sleep, just Dream
This isn't fair
No we're not just what we seem
We want to fly
But our souls are trapped inside
It's not a game not to play
For fools who hide
Just Sleep, just Dream
It's only a nightmare
And soon we'll be set free"
The music shut off as tears poured down the children's faces. "Shield hears your cry for freedom, hears your cry for help, hears your cries of pain. We can help you to leave everything behind," Nick explained, heart clenching in his chest as he saw the looks of pain, of grief, of anger, and of understanding spread across the faces of these innocent, hurt, tortured children. "The question is; will you allow Shield to answer your calls?"
It was silent for a while, the four having a private conversation with their shared mind-link for, what looks to be, the last time. The four smiled a sad, understanding smile at each other, glanced at Nick, then glanced at the camera that was recording and streaming the live footage still.
One word that confirmed it, one word that left the Avengers grieving, one word that left Fury happy with the fact that he could help, one word that let the four souls that were trapped free, one word that finally allowed them to soar.
"Yes."
With a snap of his fingers, four doctors came in with needles full of Ativan. "Rest your souls," was all Nick said before he left the room, the four doctors injecting the sedative into the four bodies before laying them down so that they didn't fall on their fronts.
"It's over," Maria commented, sitting next to Fury as he felt a tear slowly cascade down his cheek. "It's finally over, they're finally free from the torture." Fury nodded and glanced at the picture he had taken of the four a few years ago, heart breaking once again when he realized that he wouldn't be able to spend any time with them anymore, not make any new memories with them, not celebrate anything with them anymore. Maybe it was for the best for it to be like that...
-
Pepper felt her insides crumble when the song finished and Nick started talking. "Shield hears your cry of freedom, hears your cry for help, hears your cries of pain. We can help you to leave everything behind." Nick explained, Pepper's heart broke when she saw the looks of pain, of grief, of anger, of understanding spread across the faces of her four children. "The question is; will you allow Shield to answer your calls?"
It was silent for a while, the four having a private conversation with their shared mind-link.
"Yes."
Pepper wanted to scream, to stop her children from saying 'Yes', to force them to say 'No' instead. For once, Pepper wanted to be selfish. Just once in her life, she wanted to pick herself over what her children wanted. Pepper knew it was wrong, but did she really care? No, because she would have her children beside her, but that's not what they wanted.
Weeks later, Fury would sit the Avengers and their families down in a meeting room at Shield Headquarters to tell them why it had to be done. "They were suffering," he would say. "Plus, it's better this way. They're finally free from everything they've had to endure. Would you want them to suffer more? To keep living, knowing that their lives would be filled with pain and torture and heartache? I don't think any of you noticed, but they were dying."
"What?" T'Challa would exclaim, shock evident on his face. "What do you mean they were dying?"
This time it would be Maria Hill who spoke up. "The testing that was done on them was slowly killing them," she would explain, "That's what the ringing was. We couldn't hear it, but they could. If we did nothing about it, then they would have gone insane and tried to kill themselves before we could do anything to help. It's better this way. They can finally rest, it's finally over. The pain, the heartache, the torture... it's all over, all gone, now they're greeting death..."
"Was this your plan from the beginning?" Pepper's hoarse voice would ask, glancing up at the Director of Shield only to see that he would nod his head.
"Pepper, you have to understand this," Coulson would speak up this time, "They were going to go insane. If the United Nations found out about that, they would have ordered them to be killed or taken to a lab somewhere where they would be tested and experimented on. You have to understand that Shield heard their cry for help and did what they could to fix it for them. You all have to understand that."
"It would have been selfish to let them live." Nick would point out gently.
"I understand." The conversation would die down as everyone began to leave.
Nick was right, though. Those four tortured souls could finally rest, it was finally over. The pain, the heartache, the torture... it's all over, all gone, now they were greeting death... Pepper knows she should be thankful that Shield heard her children's cries for help and helped them when she couldn't, but... she just wishes she was the one to make the decision, not four kids who were only thirteen! I guess the world works in mysterious ways, huh?
"We're only kids who lost our way, but if we wait long enough then we'll be saved"
Luckily, they were saved and it was finally over. The end of a tale, the end of the torture, the end of it all...
It Was Finally Over
Or was it over?
Not yet.
EPILOGUE 2
This is dedicated to @Erei_69
This version of the epilogue is what would have happened if Peter, Rosalice, Harley, and Renesmee had said no to Nick Fury's offer of ending it all.
Enjoy!

One word that confirmed it, one word that left the Avengers grieving, one word that left Fury happy with the fact that he could help, one word that let the four souls that were trapped free, one word that-
"No."
What? Had Nick heard them right? They said 'No'? But didn't they want help? Didn't they want to be free? Didn't they want the pain to be over?
"I'm sorry, did I hear you four correctly?" Nick asked, shocked that they would decline the offer of being free. "You don't want to be free? You don't want help? You don't want the pain to be over?"
"We do," Harley replied, glancing at his hands that were clasped in his lap. "But we don't wanna leave our family when we just got them back." It was silent for a while before Peter spoke up.
"Sir, you have to understand how we see all of this," Peter begged. "We're just kids! We shouldn't have to make these kinds of decisions on our own. Plus, it wouldn't be fair on our families if we were to just up and leave them without talking it through with them."
"I understand that, but let's face it; it's your lives, and you're in pain!" Fury argued, trying to get these four kids to see sense, but it was no use. They were set with their decision of staying alive and there was nothing Shield could do to convince them. "Fine. Go home, your family will want to see you." Fury then left, not looking back. He felt as if he had let those four down, even though deep down inside he knew he hadn't. Yet.
~ One Year Later ~
It had been a year since the four had gotten an offer from Nick Fury and, in a way, from Shield. The four, though they refuse to accept it, have been getting worse since that day. Tony, ever the engineer, has been trying to find a way to stop the 'ringing' that his kids have been complaining about that no one else except them seems to hear.
Countless times Fury has asked them the same question throughout the past year: "Will you let Shield help you now?" and each time they reply with a solid "No". They were confident in staying alive until they were twenty-years-old, but even surviving until they were fifteen-years-old would be a struggle for them. They were only fourteen-years-old and already struggling to even move.
Let's take a look at what they're doing now, shall we?
"Peter?" Renesmee asked, sat up against a bunch of pillows. Peter replied with a simple 'hm'. "What if... What if this is Lucifer's way of getting us under his control? What if, to stop the ringing, we have to answer his calls? Answer the call? What if we have to go 'home'?"
"It's a possibility," Peter replied, smiling softly as Harley and Rosalice woke up from their nap. "I mean... Thinking about Lucifer gives us a bit more strength so I think that might actually help."
"What might help?" Rosalice asked, watching as Peter tried to stand up only to fall backwards onto his bed. "Also, there's no point in trying. We're too weak to even move, Pete. Why would we ever be able to stand up and walk around?"
"Well, Nessie was saying about how the ringing could be Lucifer's way of calling to us, to get us to come home. After all, we were his best assassins, were we not?" Peter replied. It was silent whilst the other two contemplated this idea.
"It's possible, and very likely," Harley responded.
"True. I mean, we gain strength even saying or thinking his name." Rosalice agreed. Peter nodded. "Maybe..." Rosalice looked to the side as she chose her next words carefully. This could be the make it or break it point for them and she really wanted it to be the make it point. "Maybe we should answer his calls. It'll make it easier on us."
"But that would mean-" Peter was cut off as the ringing got louder and louder until it took over their senses. All they could hear was the ringing, all they could smell was the smell of that Hydra base, all they could see was Lucifer, all they could feel was the cold, stale air that they were once so used to.
"Answer the call, my beloved assassins," Lucifer's voice rang out, smirk evident in his voice. It was working. "Answer the call, and be free. Answer the call, and come home." A smug look took over Lucifer's face as he realised it had worked, looking at their completely blank expressions. "Come home."
With those final words, the four transformed into the creatures they were known to be. Renesmee as a dragon, Peter as a Bengal tiger, Harley as a wolf, and Rosalice as a bobcat. Glancing towards the window, Renesmee - or should I say Dragon - blasted it into millions of tiny little shards that reflected the suns rays, making the shards look like millions of tiny stars, and flew through, the others following suit soon after.
Hearing the explosion, the Avengers raced towards the children's bedroom only to be met with empty beds, a broken window, three animals running away from the building, and one flying away from said building. They had lost them... again... What do they do now?
~
Five years. That's how long it's been since the four Lost Children of Stark ran away from their home. After two years, the Avengers started to forget what the kids looked like but still remembered their names. After three and a half years, everyone started to forget their names. After four and three quarter years, the pictures of them were gone and put in a box titled 'Mystery Kids' since no one could remember them. Finally, on the fifth year anniversary of their disappearance, it was as if nothing happened. It was as if they didn't exist, as if they never did in the first place. No one knew their names, no one knew what they looked like, no one even knew of them anymore. Not even their best friends from high school who were now in their early twenties and had families of their own.
Now let's get to where things get... interesting.
Today, the Avengers had been given a mission to get rid of a certain group consisting of four very highly trained Hydra assassins who were causing havoc not only for the United Nations, but for Shield as well.
"Let's just get this over with," Tony commented, looking at the file on the group called the LCSA. Tony knew it was an abbreviation, but for what? What kind of person calls their group the 'LCSA' without telling anyone their full name? It was weird.
"Agreed. However, I believe we are going up against more mutants." Steve commented, glancing at the file of the dragon of the group. A white dragon with scales that seemed to shine like stars. Alongside the picture of the dragon, was the picture of a girl around the age of nineteen. The girl was slightly pale, hazel eyes, freckles dotted across her cheeks, and chocolate brown hair pulled into a high-ponytail that ended around her hips.
"Hey, doesn't that girl look familiar to you at all, Steve?" Bucky asked, looking at the image his best friend held in his hand. Steve nodded in agreement, trying to get his memory to work but he couldn't. "She reminds me of one of the pictures that we put in the box. Ya know, the one we called 'Mysterious Kids'?"
"Yeah, I remember. I just... I can't remember her name or the other kids names, ya know? And it's bugging the hell out of me." Steve replied, putting the file down next to the other three files which showed three other people, all around the age of nineteen, with pictures of an animal beside them. Two boys and one girl. The girl looked similar to the dragon girl but had a picture of a bobcat next to her instead of a dragon; one of the boys had brown doe-like eyes and brown curly hair with a picture of a Bengal tiger next to him; the final boy had blonde hair and light blue eyes with a picture of a black wolf next to him.
"I wish I could remember," Wanda commented as they started to descend. "They look like they could be nice kids if they were given the chance to be."
"Much like us, then, eh?" Pietro replied, looking at the files on the table. Wanda nodded in reply, pulling her signature red jacket on whilst Pietro messed with his curls. Suddenly, the door dropped to reveal two of the animals that were on the files; the dragon and the tiger. This time, however, the two seemed scared, like something bad was gonna happen.
"These are two of the people we have to get rid of?" Natasha asked, dumbfounded about how these two people were two of the ones that Shield and the UN wanted them to kill. Clint was about to reply when the two transformed into two of the kids on the files.
"Peter..." the girl, Dragon Girl, spoke softly to the boy beside her, Wolf Boy also known as Peter. "Am I the only one seeing them? Is this a dream?"
"No," the boy replied to Dragon Girl, shock evident on his face. "No, Ness, you aren't dreaming. This is real, but they're not here to rescue us. They're here to kill us for what we've done in the past five years."
"Oh..." the girl, Ness, replied before looking up at the boy beside her. "I guess our time is up then, huh, brother?"
"Yeah..." Peter whispered, wrapping an arm around the girl's shoulders as they both glanced behind them. "Our time is up..."
Both giving a soft sigh, they turned around to face the Avengers and started walking towards them. One they reached the group of heroes who had filed out of the Quinjet, the two knelt down and looked up at them. "We're ready," they said in unison. "It's time for us to say goodbye."
The Avengers shared a look as these two kids bowed their heads, preparing to meet their ends. "I'm sorry..." Rhodey whispered, pointing his gauntlet at the two. Ness rose her head, looking at the man that used to be her uncle all those years ago, with a smile.
"Don't be," she whispered, looking into the mans eyes. "We deserve whatever's going to happen to us. But I have one request."
"What is that request?" Bruce asked, crouching in front of the two. Looking into the girl's eyes, Bruce felt his heart drop. "Rene..."
"When you go home, don't grieve for us. We'll be in a better place, better than what Shield could have done for us." Nessa, also known as Rene, whispered to her godfather. "Don't feel guilt either." Bruce felt tears drip down his cheeks as he hugged the young girl, squeezing his eyes shut to try and stop the tears.
"I love you, Renesmee Antonia Stark." Bruce whispered as he pulled away, standing up and backing away to give Rhodey a clear shot. "I'll never forget you, kid. Either of you."
"Don't grieve, any of you," Peter told the superheroes around him and his sister. Everyone was looking at Bruce as he closed his eyes, nodding his head once towards Rhodey. Taking it as the cue to fire, Rhodey charged up slightly and fired one shot that was fatal and finally ended it for two of the Lost Children of Stark.
"What did you mean when you said 'I love you, Renesmee Antonia Stark'?" Tony asked. "I don't have any other kids."
"You don't now, but you did once," Bruce replied. "You had four other children; Peter Benjamin Stark, Harley Stark, Rosalice Imani Stark, and Renesmee Antonia Stark. We still need to find Rose and Harley, but two of them are finally at rest after all these years."
Tears sprang to Tony's eyes as memories flashed through his mind of the four kids. How could he have forgotten them so easily? How could he have given up hope so quickly? "They aren't the Mysterious Kids, are they?" Tony whispered, Bruce shaking his head just as two other kids landed off to the left of them.
"Dad?" The boy whispered, tears in his eyes. Tony looked towards the two and his heart broke. Harley and Rosalice. That means... Looking towards the two dead bodies, Tony's heart broke when he finally recognized them. Peter and Renesmee. "Dad, is that you?"
"Harley?" Tony whispered, teary smile spreading across his face. Harley let out a sob before racing forward, tackling his father in a hug. "I've missed you, son." Harley merely buried his face deeper in his father's shoulder. Rosalice, once she gained some more balance, also tackled her father in a hug with tears streaming down her cheeks.
"Dad, it hurts," the young girl sobbed. Tony merely held the two tighter, trying to ignore the mission he was given.
"You're not here to rescue us, are you?" Harley asked after the trio had pulled away. "You're here to kill us for what we've done. Peter and Renesmee always knew that one day you guys would find us, but they never did tell us what would happen when you did. By the looks of it-" Harley looked towards the unmoving bodies of his brother and sister who had soft smiles on their faces, still holding each others hands "-you've already found two of us and ended their suffering."
"I don't want to do this," Tony whispered, a sob caught in his throat as he watched his son and daughter walk over to the dead bodies of their siblings. Harley knelt next to Peter and took his hand whilst Rosalice did the same with Renesmee. "There has to be another way!"
"Dad... We've done enough. We're just happy we got to see you guys one last time." Rosalice spoke gently, smiling at her tearful father. "Please... All we ask is that you end our suffering. We love you guys, and we'll never forget you. Please... Just don't forget us."
Tony sighed, nodding towards Rhodey who, once again, sent the fatal blast towards the two kids who closed their eyes and kept soft smiles on their faces, even when the smoke had cleared. The Avengers loaded the four dead, still, unmoving bodies onto the Quinjet so Bruce could do what he needed to do before they buried the four children.
A week later, Lucifer Moonstone was killed and gotten rid off. Hydra was a very little threat now that that madman was gone. Two weeks after the death of the LCSA, they finally had the funeral. A public one, and a private one. Millions showed up to the public funeral, and everyone that knew the kids showed up to the private one.
In the years to come when people look at the four graves in the Avenger's private graveyard, they will ask 'Who were they? Why are they buried here?'. And do you know what the answer will be? They will answer with the following:
They are the Lost Children of Stark, and their pain and torture is Finally Over. They can finally rest, knowing that the world is protected and that the world is finally at peace with itself.
~
"Renesmee!" a voice called, breaking through the darkness that surrounded the young girl's mind. "Renesmee, it's time to wake up!" Renesmee blinked her eyes open, seeing the ceiling of... her bedroom?! Suddenly more alert, Renesmee sat up and looked around only to be met with her bedroom. Was it all a dream? It must have been....
Sighing sadly, the young girl got up out of her bed and headed towards her bedroom door and down towards the kitchen where her mother was waiting for her. However, if she had looked behind her, she would have seen the shimmering of scales belonging to a pale, white dragon.
